as late as 1950 our minds still entertained in black face i was just one year old now 62 and people are still infected by this kind of vicariousness wow long time has gone by and this act is still taking place somewhere ..after 1863 emancipation proclamation slavery became peonage we need to learn from our errors
I do remember this stint, about white people painting their face black as opposed to hiring blacks as actors. I think there was definitely a lot of ignorance going around back then as it exposed the hypocrisy of the industry as being highly oppressive toward the black audience who happened to watch the program and then feeling quite offended at the white interpretation of a black man and then making a parody of this I will never know if white men have also made offensive materials against Jews.
CBS wanted a TV version of "THE AMOS 'N' ANDY SHOW" as early as 1948, shortly after they bought the radio series from its stars, Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll. However, after Gosden & Correll appeared before the camera in blackface in a test kinescope {at their request, when they sent the only copy of the film to their director, Fred DeCordova, he destroyed it}, it was decided to use an all-black cast instead. It took almost two years for them to find the right cast and chemistry....
