@XTRMJZZTRRR True mate, And the way how bergkamp controled that ball out of the air, and with 1 move take ayala out, Things you dont see anymore in 2days football.
OK, just saw the the Rapinoe to Wambach goal, but I don't think they are alike at all.
De Boer was at his own half when he sent the crosspass and Bergkamp was at the rigth of the goal, had to controll the ball with his right foot and scored with the same giving it an effect. The american players: the one who sent the pass was much closer to the receiver and the receiver was right in front of goal. I mean: I couldnt do it, but it sure is not alike to me.
People keep talking about the Rapinoe to Wambach goal saying its the "most amazing ever". Those people need to see this video. They're comparable. They were both late in the game and salvaged a victory from a game with poor officiating that could have easily been lost. Bergkamp had such amazing skill as a player. What a treat it was to watch this game live.
People keep talking about WHO? Never heard of these people but I am sure they didnt do this during a quarterfinal of the World Cup! Had this been in a league it would have been the next beautiful goal, but the stage, the pressure (20 seconds before fulltime) makes this a world class goal.

@lexlucid909 I've played games where the goal you mention is scored many a time. Its a simple cross and header. Sheesh Alan Shearer could do it with his eyes shut. Bergkamp's was against Argentina, one of the best teams in the world at the time. The ball was coming down out of the air from behind him at speed, he was being closed down by a defender, who he manages to nutmeg, before slotting with the outside right of his boot.

Dennis Bergkamp!!!! As a Dutch supporter, Bergkamp has always one of my most favourite Dutch players of all time!! I remember this game/goal like it was yesterday.....I jumped and screamed for what seemed like an eternity!! Thanks to You Tube I can relive the moment over and over and over again.....thanks for the memories Bergkamp!!! GO ORANJE!!!
I screamed 'oh, my god what a goal!' as many others did, I'm sure, when I watched that fly in, all those years ago. Trouble was I didn't want to miss the match but had to walk to work. So, unfortunately, I was stood in the high street with a hand held tv when that goal went in. I might have scared a few people.
I imagine the Americans don't realise just how brilliant this goal was. The beautiful game at its best. Inch perfect fifty yard pass, brilliant control, sublime finish. Taxi for Argentina!
this was the first goal i remember seeing live. the one camera shot from infront of him from the touchline. as he exquisitely takes the ball under control in a way only he could. quite beautiful.....so happy this goal stays in my mind at all times!
I wonder if any player in the whole world can make a goal like that.. It´s like 4 times as spectacular as Linus Hallenius wich is the greatest goal in 2009-2010 and Bergkamp made his goal in the world cup not the second highest league in the country in question..
I'm a dutch guy so I was really dissappointed they didn't get past Brazil. The 2010 World Cup i didn't really mind they lost to Spain, but they won the quarter final against Brazil and the felt SO INCREDIBLY good, i loved how they humiliated those Brazilians. With THAT win the World Cup 2010 was already unbeatable for me... HAHA, the Brazilians were SO confident they'd beat Holland easily, HAHA... Wonderful...
I've never seen a greater first touch in a game at the World Cup finals than the one Dennis showed here - great finish and all that but to take down a ball like that in the dying minutes of a high pressure game is almost unhuman.
Majestic stuff.
I remember wathing this game wanting the Dutch to get one over the Argies and boy oh boy, Bergie certainly did not dissapoint.
there is so much quality in the dutch footballers through the ages, it's really sad they still haven't won the World Cup. 3 finals, no win, that's just cruel.
@etuheu Yes i really think that this team was extraordinary and trutly agree with you but brazil had a great team also and France won because of their homeground, I miss this type of games in wcups south africa was a total disapointment with bad calls, the ball sucked and seem like there were no stars on the teams like there used to be.
@mm942 i know. brazil won over the netherlands on penalties on the semi-final 4-2 after it ended 1-1 on full time (ronaldo scored for brazil and kluivert equalized for the dutch)
To bad we didn't get into the finals and lost against Brasil with penalty's after this match. We had a better team with Bergkamp back then. That team would have played much better then the team that played the final against Spain this year.
Possibly the best goal ever in the WC considering the time and the skill involved. I think it will take some goal to better it. Search out DB's greatest goals. Some greats for Ajax and Arsenal too.
One of the best goals in World Cup History and that sent the Dutch into the Semi-Finals against Brazil in which they lost in penalty kicks to the Brazilians. Still, that Bergkamp Goal will give every Dutch Soccer Fan GooseBumps as one of the most dramatic goals in FIFA World Cup Lore.
he has the technique, he's just not sharp enough because he spent most of the season injured, i reckon the potential is there though. but ye i doubt it will happen over night. Still it would be nice to see him score a goal like this in the final!!
"Dennis Bergkamp shoots the spherical target high into the back of the score bag. That's two points Holland, one point Argentina and almost certainly means no more overtime and definitely no penalty kickout scenario. Yes, there's the total time whistle and Holland are through to the Round of 4. Yee-haaaar!!!"
As an American football commentator may have once said.
Maybe even more interesting than him shouting "Dennis Bergkamp" like a mad man, is what the first thing he says at the start of the video. As the oranges fades and just before Frank de Boer gives the pass, he says: "I suddenly have the feeling we will make it to the semi-final. Possession for Frank de Boer...." the rest is not that hard to understand.... :-D
BEST PASS EVER, BEST CONTROL EVER, BEST BETWEEN THE LEGS MOVE EVER, THEN THE GREATEST GOAL IN THE HISTORY OF WORLD CUP SOCCER. D.B. IS THE GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME, PERIOD.
@cypresspuz I agree! They had an amazing team then, with the De Boer brothers, Kluivert, Cocu, Overmars and of course Bergkamp, who is, without a doubt, one of the best to ever play the game and also a class act.
Goals like this are not scored anymore!! Just loved mimicking Bergkamp when I played football on the street. There are not individuals in the game anymore who have the same level of technical and intelligent skills like bergkamp did. Kids are just not playing football on the streets anymore for fun to learn their trade. Too many distractions in the modern world these days and its showing on the football pitch. The world cup this year being a good example.
@expedition16 No, we say 'scoring a goal' or 'Bergkamp scores'. I've been playing/watching soccer all my life and I've never heard a goal called 'a score.' There's also the slang 'score' which is said whenever something good happens, but I'm inclined to think in this case the announcer is just incoherent and stumbling over his words.
rectbold disagree with some being better than bergkamp, he mite have lacked speed, but goals were perfect exquisite goals. in the modern game most players have to be touchy feely, too much jostling. bergkamp created and scored with great finesse and while most players are fast they havent got the touch and technicality bergkamp had. take rooney for eg, who has to use his arms all the time to get away and score goals, but in world cup he struglles cos ref dnt allow it, hes crap
Im brazilian and i can easily say, Netherland wouldve be the Champion of 1998 world cup.. France would get raped by Kluivert Overmars Davids Seedorf De Boer brothers and cia.. after seeing Brazil x Netherland 1998 Semi Final (Best game that ever happened) .. It was a shame lose to a France after beating the best team on that time.. Cheers for Holland
i can honestly say that maybe its the light but this goal isn't what everyone seems to think...i could have scored like that but i no bergkamps hundreds of times better
no se si habra estado entre los mejores jugadores de la historia, quizas no,ni entre los mas habilidosos, pero entre lo mas tecnicos que han nacido seguro que si
@primervodka Just search for "Dennis Bergkamp" on youtube and watch how this man scored his goals, with either foot. This anti hero also known as "the iceman" is better than any player playing at the WC of 2010. Yes, I know about Messi and Ronaldo or the Dutch heroes Robben and Van Persie, but Bergkamp is "just" one of the best players that ever lived on this planet!
I still get goose bumps watching this. That dutch team was stacked with talent and Bergkamp was probably the best of them all. Unbelievable moment at the greatest tournament of them all.
I remember this. One of maybe five best goals of all time. The way Dennis controls the ball and the vision of De Boer is absolutely amazing. Holland is my favourite team. When Bergkamp has scored this I screamed with excitation.
I have always been a big fan of Oranje and this is why. Argentina is also one of my favorite teams and this was a brilliant game very passionate, exciting. I don't think there's been a World Cup since 1998 that has been worth watching. 2 of the greatest games were played. And no one can forget the round of 16 clash between England and Argentina that was also a great game. Good luck to Holland,Oranje,Netherlands, the Dutch whatever you want to call them they definitely need to win a World Cup.
98 was the most entertaining world cup. So many great players were at their prime.

Those yanks call it a "a score" when a goal is made. They really dunno shit about "soccer".
expedition16 1 year ago

Holland should have won it all that year.

Cheers for Holland

no se si habra estado entre los mejores jugadores de la historia, quizas no,ni entre los mas habilidosos, pero entre lo mas tecnicos que han nacido seguro que si
primervodka 1 year ago
@primervodka Just search for "Dennis Bergkamp" on youtube and watch how this man scored his goals, with either foot. This anti hero also known as "the iceman" is better than any player playing at the WC of 2010. Yes, I know about Messi and Ronaldo or the Dutch heroes Robben and Van Persie, but Bergkamp is "just" one of the best players that ever lived on this planet!

I still get goose bumps watching this. That dutch team was stacked with talent and Bergkamp was probably the best of them all. Unbelievable moment at the greatest tournament of them all.
Ninety2q 1 year ago
I remember this. One of maybe five best goals of all time. The way Dennis controls the ball and the vision of De Boer is absolutely amazing. Holland is my favourite team. When Bergkamp has scored this I screamed with excitation.
redyossarian 1 year ago 2
I have always been a big fan of Oranje and this is why. Argentina is also one of my favorite teams and this was a brilliant game very passionate, exciting. I don't think there's been a World Cup since 1998 that has been worth watching. 2 of the greatest games were played. And no one can forget the round of 16 clash between England and Argentina that was also a great game. Good luck to Holland,Oranje,Netherlands, the Dutch whatever you want to call them they definitely need to win a World Cup.
