You know I just received an email forwarded from my father going around to many former Delta employees. The email linked me to this video and mentions you and gives thanks to you for making it. Anyway, thought you'd like to know.
I was singing the part "We're Delta...Delta Air Lines" in the 80's commercial. I had to stand on a coke crate to be tall enough to match those coming up singing behind me. My favorite non-rev memories revolve around the L10-11 and First Class royal service! Remember the ice cream sundaes? Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the nice comments. Yes, these were certainly the "good old days" for Delta and the airline industry. I too fondly remember the first class service, the ice cream sundaes, and all the great Delta people I met during my career.
10 Years ago, Delta retired their final L1011. I sure do miss them. I still love watching this video and seeing the low fly-by over Atlanta. It still moves me! Great video tribute to the greatest airplane ever, The Lockheed L-1011 TriStar! Farewell!
I do have one other memory of the L-1011. It was working at JFK....early 80's. We were doing some work on a jetway and we were on ground level. I remember watching a engine startup. As I recall, it was a smokey affair, one engine at a time. Just something I recall.
I'm not connected to Delta in any way other than as a customer. Sad to see any era end. All those connected to this last flight must have great memories of it. Thanks for producing this video for the rest of us.
The L1011 was a greatest passenger airplanes of all times. When the airplane was first introduced in the early seventies, the first class section was heaven. And as a pilot, it was the cutting age technology for the time. It is still one of the best airplanes I've ever flown.
Seeing videos such as these have an ever bigger sentimental meaning. Frankly, U.S. aviation sucks now. We used to have DC-10s and L-1011s flying into the smallest, most seemingly insignificant airports ... now all we have littering our skies, are tiny 737s, MD-80s, and RJs flying everywhere, with the occasional 757. It's really sad. The TriStar was so beautiful. Loved it more than the DC-10., although both were wonderful.
interesting video, so great appreciation's by Delta for its wonderfull birds L-1011. So sad to see this lovely bird lastly being retired from Delta services as the bigger user of it. L-1011 is so great airplane.!
Wow. Finally Somebody put a video. I flew the 1011 for Delta until 2001. I flew as a passenger on the last flight. But i truly missed flying her. I flew the second ship to enter delta's fleet in 1973 and retired the second last one in 2001. I miss her too much!!! Long live the L-1011.
This video brings back awesome memories. I worked for Lockheed on this program and thoroughly enjoyed delivering this aircraft to the various customers. This aircraft was ahead of it's time during the 70's. On today's technology it is considered an antique, however, it still is a beauty to look at. I have flown on this aircraft several times and always enjoyed it. Sorry to see it shelved but it served us well!
I am L-1011 fan, and collect hundred of it photos. As you said, you worked for Lockheed on Tristar program, surely you have some photo of this bird photo. Can you share it or i want to buy from you. i am looking L-1011 photo capture from the air justlike it fly over the New York City in this video.
I loved the video...made me smile with all of the memories that I have of the L-1011. I retired Jan.1, 2002, after thirty years...we almost spend the same exact years of service together!
I retired after 27 years as a flight attendant. I used to say that I cut my teeth on the L1011 and I still loved the plane when it was retired. I would work the lower galley when no one would want it and that was the best plane for so many memories for me, miss the people of Delta the most and this video made me think how lucky I was to be a part of this great airline. Safe flying to all of you! And thanks for the memories!
@PGF1953 - Many of us now retired from Delta grew up on the L1011. Yep, volumns of memories could be written about this airplane by people who flew the great lady. Thanks for sharing you memories.
@CruzerToo I all ever flew with delta as a pilot was the L-1011. From day one to 2001, i didnt get to retire N728DA but i got N755DA, i love how delta gave me the chance to fly the second L-1011 to enter the fleet and retire the second last. i miss the L-1011. I remembered some of the crews right now from this video, I will never forget N728DA. I still remember the low flyby from First class. long Live the L-1011.
Forgot to say, I miss those twin rotating beacons on the -1/100. At night when spotting it was no question of what was coming when you spotted those, very nice/intrguing to see!
Those were the good ole days. Used to fly from Atl to TPa..where the maitenance base was..knew there would always be a mechanical! haha..I am though in the singing part on the 8min page..I remember doing that commercial..Retired in 2008 after 30 years..Miss the big D...(hate S3B!)
Wow! I got emmotional too....I started my career in 1966 til 2002. There were so many of my friends in the video.....and yes we were so young....Delta raised me
Nice video... my Dad flew the L-1011 and I know it was one of his favorite planes. I remember commuting on the L10 during my commuter days... best jumpseat in the industry!
34.5 years I worked from the C-46-to present...It was a great ride. Some were very "ruff" but the Captions were experts.
I one time asked Capt. Campbell, Capt. have you in all the years of flying have you ever be LOST. His answer was a resoundable; NO. I was so pround to be an operation agent and got to meet pilots like Noisey Woods..
Wonderful video..thank you for the work. This made me very proud of my career at Delta..I often heard Captains say that the Tri-Star was a legend, she came before her time...
Wow!. I got emmotional when she made its final flyby. I love the entire video. My first time on the L-1011 was as nonrev for my job interview LAX-ATL-MSY-LAX. My parents loved the first class experience from LAX-ATL-SJU-ATL-LAX. The "We Love to Fly and it Shows" commercials are special to me as one of my class mates (Gayle) was in the one with the military service kids making several reservations at once, and Gayle proudly says she made "one"..
@1DLflyer - Making this video was an emotional experience for me as well and I've received great remarks from many, many retirees who flew the Queen of Delta. I'm happy that I was able to rekindle some fond memories from what many consider the GOLDEN AGE of aviation at Delta. The "We Love to Fly" commerical was one of Delta's best commericals. My gosh, everyone looked so young.
I retired in 2003 on the MD11. Not quite the ship as the L10. This was really the golden age of aviation for most of us. Brings tears to my eyes. Great job
@grassroot3 - Yes, it certainly was the golden age of aviation for us Delta employees. I retired off the L1011 in 1997. Making the video was quite an emotional experience for me as well. Thanks for the nice comments.
yes I remember you retired in 1997, I have watched your nice retirement video many times and commented on it as well. I was just curious if you were one of the passengers on the final flight and filmed some of this to put this clip together... I would give you 5 stars if I could figure out how on this new YouTube layout.
@PoSeiDoNN91 - Thanks for the nice offer. Youtube has done away with the star rating system. You can only select "like" or "dislike" for the menu located at the bottom of the video viewing screen. No, I was't even a passenger on this historic flight - Delta restricted the passenger list to active employees only. Bummer!!
Thanks for the nice comments. Unfortunately, I was not on this historic flight. I retired as an L1011 International Captain for Delta in 1997. This video is a compilation of file footage from the Delta film archives; footage of the final flight of ship 728; pictures of the final crew; and footage of two Delta commercials from the eighties. There are no copies available for sale, but you can download a copy from youtube and burn it to a dvd.
Incredible video... thanks so much for posting this... THIS plane should have been the spirit of delta..... where you on this flight or is this a video that can be bought??
They should make a video too when they retire their DC-9s
