GREAT LIST! I have no criticisms. But as much as I love Jim Brown, Barry Sanders and Walter Payton are heads and shoulders above the rest of the list. Both guys were able to turn negative yard plays into TDs with elusiveness unmatched by anyone.
Decent list...ONE problem. Roger Craig?? He isnt even a HOFer. SUB Tony Dorsett please, come on. This is a no-brainer. Then you have the list, and order SHOULD be....

Eric Dickerson could have been the greatest ever if it weren't for all his contract issues...from a pure physical and running back standpoint, I think he is the best.
that documentry was the super seventies btw. What if sports a fansty football league with every player from every season has OJ Simpson 1975 the Oj broke gale sayers Touchdown record getting 17 rushing touchdowns and 7 receiving touchdowns (more than john stallworth had!) and compiling the 16 game equivalent of 2600 yards from scrimage !!!!!!!!! Making the buffalo Bills offense the Number one offense in the league that year single handedly. 1973 he got 2000 rushing yards in 14 games
You left out Earl Campbell, FRANCO HARRIS, and Gale Sayers. And the fact that you had the audacity to even mention Adrian Peterson and Chris Johnson with these legends is a disgrace. AP and CJ arent goin to the HOF.
tackles runner ever. He deserves it more than Marcus Allen, and Emmit Smith, who are overrated. They are good, just not as good as some other runners.
@DwightWhite78 lol, i do agree with that. But he Still deserves to be up there because of the team he was on, the teams he face (i.e. The Steelers). Idk, maybe thats just my opinion
@DwightWhite78 Forsure Bro OJ simpson should be top 3 no matter what in 1972 he had 189 yards rushing against them he broke off a 94 yard run on them the longest of his career!!! and in 1975 he rushed for 227 yards against them week 2 in pittsburgh leading the lowly buffalo bills to a victory with an 87 yard touchdown run where he outran every guy on the feild
@XtremeAthleticism In 1972 they the only defensive players they had was Joe Greene and Andy Russell, and i dont know of him running any 227 yds, but i could be wrong.
@DwightWhite78 yeh dude Ojs hidden nowdays for an obvious reason!!!! Juice was one of the best football players i have ever seen in the nfl films documentry John facenda styled Oj Simpson quote "the player of the decade" he was the number one overall pick went to an absolutly horrible bills team but OJ set the records for rushing yards in a season and touchdowns in a season in both college and the pros between 1972-1976 Oj simpson compiled the 16 game season equialent of almost 10,000 yds scrim
Adrian Peterson and Chris Johnson seriously? i respect ur opinion but in order for them to be future HOF they need to continue there greatest. And after the past couple seasons, i dont think so. What makes a runningback great is their ability to impact the team. Adrian Peterson can run, but doesnt make his palyers around him better. Which is why the top 3 should be Walter Payton, Jim Brown and Barry Sanders. They did so much with so little help. And Earl Campbell was the best between the
@MrPBRman I agree AP may be fast and all but I mean, he cant lead his team to victory. I am not saying if your team is 18-1 (Patriots hahaha) doesnt mean they have the best players they just know how to play mental and physically football isnt just about speed and power although they help a ton.
stop making videos please i just stopped watching after you said adrian peterson is the 2nd most talented rb ever and chris johnson is the fastest and your videos are horrible your dislikes are more then your likes, and not even one good comment about your vid. im guessing walter payton is like number 4? and adrian peterson is number one right? im not even going to watch the rest of this
Not a bad list, but I wouldn't have Roger Craig anywhere close to the top 10. Others to consider: John Riggins, Franco Harris, Tony Dorsett, Jim Taylor.
You left Gale and Earl off the list? Are you high? Sayers was one of the greatest, he just didn't have modern technology, so his career ended shortly. Earl had a greater average than Smith, and also played for the fucking Oilers.
Emmitt Smith is overrated because he had Larry Allen? Are you even a little bit serious? You MUST be a Deadskins fans. I can't believe anyone would put the all time leading rusher at 6. Your opinion is about as valid as my 4 year old son's.
explain to me how roger craig is better than earl campbell. Earl wasnt just a power runner he had speed he made the 40 yard dash in 4.59 he could juke and he could truck and he has overall better stats than craig
I can't really argue with the top of the list - but there is no way Roger Craig belongs over Franco Harris, Tony Dorsett or Gale Sayers....sorry but you have to look at the body of work or in the case of Gale Sayers, the blend of speed and elusiveness that nobody could match.
How is Emmitt Smith overrated? This man played with a broken arm for the Cowboys to claim home field advantage. That's heart and he was hit constantly. He is the leading rusher in NFL HISTORY and he's number 6? LT always punked out in the post season and he's the overrated back on your list. Emmitt last season he still piled almost a thousand yards. LT is done.
oh and another reason im tired of people saying barry sanders had a shitty offensive line. sanders had 3 pro bowl offensive lineman and walter payton had none until 1985 which was 2 years before he retires. so barry sanders had better lineman then payton for most of his career do some research before you say stuff
video is stupid for so many reasons. 1. Adrian Peterson future hof? 2. Chris Johnson isn't even the fastest, bob Hayes , Willie gault, Dennis green way faster 3. you said earl Campbell isn't mentioned why? because he wasn't a complete running back. then why is Walter Payton number 2 dumbshit because Walter payton is the best/complete running back in the nfl. please delete this garbage video...
you are the most retarded person on the face of the earth if you know what that means or do I have to put it simpler for your small brain Emmit smith should be at least #2 he has the most career rushing TD's in NFL history (man your retarded)
@waffleswithwangwangs then what about that rookie dallas had when smith held out the first two games of the 94 season and didnt do shit????? And to the guy who made this vid smith didnt have larry allen for four years and smith ran over 1400 yards in those years
its ironic how the shittiest team in NFL history has the greatest running back of all time... im from michigan, so im not biest* when i say the lions suck ass
In my opinion had Brown played 16 games like barry sanders did a season he would have higher numbers then Sanders would because they both retired at the peaks of there careers around 30yrs old, which is pretty rare when you have no serious injuriers. I would still take Brown though he held every signficant rushing record when he retired.
How on earth was Barry Sanders's line awful? Lomas Brown (Tackle) was a 6-time pro-bowler ('90, '91, '92, '93, '94, '95), Kevin Glover (Center) was a 3-time pro-bowler ('95, '96, '97). And Emmitt Smith is not over-rated. Have you ever watched him play? Sure, he had some holes, but he also ran over DBs and LBs, or juked em out, or just plain outran them. He could do it all. And he could also block and catch. Barry Sanders couldn't block and if he didn't dodge the defender, he was going down.
Sorry I agree with your #1 Sanders & #2 Payton picks, but you left out Franco Harris who was a great back. Has the rushing yards and rings to prove it. Leaving Earl Campbell off your list is like taking a bath with your socks on. You just don't get it. Campbell had a short caree to, 10 season I think. He didn't run out of bounce to avoid a hit, he would run you over. Linebackers feared him. Lambert of the Steelers in 70's said he was like tackling a run away truck, and jack was a bad ass LB.
@xXxlGlHlOlSlTlxXx dude I checked the stats and he's the only player in NFL history to average over 100 rush yds a game. Sanders' modern day comparison is CJ2K Brown's is AP(minus fumble woes). Sanders will get some all right runs but once he sees a lane he'll break one. Brown was more power and consistency and was pretty elusive. So it's a matter of preference. I love CJ something about him is just awesome and thats why I pick Sanders over Brown but Brown is #2.....but really its just a tie
@Pandamatrix85 no fumbles this season so the fumble woes are gone but with the way you where doing it stats and talent walter payton should've been number 1 because he was the best all around runningback ever and this is coming from a vikings fan.
@Pandamatrix85 no fumbles this season so the fumble woes are gone. With the way you where doing it, stats and talent, walter payton should've been number 1, because he was the best all around running back ever. and this is coming from a vikings fan.
@xXxlGlHlOlSlTlxXx i honestly agree with you, but jim brown was ahead of his time as a running back when he was playing. not just physically but also mentally and his stats were pretty amazing
How can you say Chris Johnson is the fastest player in NFL history. He is definately one of the fastest, but not THE fastest. That title belongs to Bo Jackson.
Your lack of knowledge shows when you call Earl Campbell "one-dimensional". Yes, Earl was a power back but, he also ran a 4.5 40 and there are numerous examples of him beating a defense to the corner and outrunning the secondary to the endzone.
He only played eight years, had 9407 total rushing yards and three of those years he ran for 648 yards or less.
He carried a mediocre team (Houston Oilers) to the AFC Championship Game two years in a row.
I hate to tell everybody but Detroit had more than one pro Bowl offensive lineman during Sanders time. His line really wasn't that shitty. He was in the run n shoot offense which meant no fullback. So he had always made that one guy miss that would have been blocked by a fullback.
@deltasigshaggy Lomas brown and whoever the right tackle was that I forgot. Were both primarily pass blocking o-line man and were critisized for them being so small and would often get man handled on run plays
Seriously i hate what the maker of the vid said he said the list was based on stats right then he switches it and does not make Emmit smith number 1 i mean i dont think he is the greatest but when it comes to stats he is i hate people that say one thing and do something else it makes them look like assholes
@DemonChild821 um, please be nice. Look, career rush yards, and TDs aren't the only stats. Look, Emmitt's good, yes. But, he only averagd 4.1 yards per carry behind what might have been the best offensive line in NFL history(yes those are stats too). Thats pretty much why he isn't #1, any questions?
@Pandamatrix85 ok i understand but the biggest is career rushing yards right? if offensive line is a big one then put Barry sanders at number one because he had no offensive line But i really dont get Walter Payton being number 1
@Pandamatrix85 I willing to bet emmitt smith also touched the ball more often to which allowed for his average yards per carry to be slightly lower then others noticed to didnt have how many carrys the RB had.
BTW HOW THE HELL can LT who when he gets breathed on and sits out a big playoff game and sits on the BIKE watching better than Emmitt Smith? Emmitt would be beyond banged up out there getting 100 yards and playing, he would have a broken bone in his shouler or whatever out there playing while Pussyfoots LT who stacked up great numbers did not have the heart to do near what he did, line or not SMITH Is easily better all times. LT is overrated from that IMO, every playoff game he is sitting.
Chris Johnson fastest player ever? Have you heard of Darrell Green? You mean RB right? He is not the fastest player ever. Sayers too bad he had his career cut short because his skillset wsa just flat out rediculous on returns, Rushes and catching the ball, he could score on you at will! I wish he had a full career :(
Not a bad list...Jim Brown should be #1 because he only had 10 games in a season. When he retired there were just 12. Imagine if Jimmy had 16 games to play....Remember... Walter and Berry had 16 games. Walter had some 14 game seasons. Berry has all 16 games. The had more games per season.
I couldn't agree more with this list/countdown! Yeah Emmit Smith is overrated as hell.... He played 15 seasons while Barry played 10 and Jim Brown played 9.
this is about the shittiest list I've ever seen. you must be a teenager or something. marshal faulke? doesn't break into my top 20. where's Bo Jackson? Earl Campbell was just a power runner? you suck.
I definitely respect your video. I just do not think that Emmitt Smith is overrated. Larry Allen was drafted in 1994, and Allen was an All-Pro in 1995...Emmitt Smith was already a four-time All-Pro by then...and Emmitt Smith broke many records in every level of football, from high school, to college with the Gators, and of course with the Cowboys. He is highly respected among his peers.
Jim brown is the best and earl Campbell was fast as well as strong and LT is overrated not Emmit and so was Walter Payton was overrated and were is Terrel Davis or Tony Dorset and roger is on the list your such a dumb ass
@MrMiami00000 All that is is the ability to say something and back it up they did not need him to win the super bowl he was a bonus the defense was the reason they won
@MrMiami00000 Umm hello they did not drive shit the defense kept making turnovers and even scored on an INT and a safety and besides Walter did not even score but all and all it was the defense
why cant ppl just shut up and let ppl have their own opinion, i dont agree with the list but im not gonna cuss at the guy for having an opinion, every player on this list is an outstanding back and they just so happen to be who he thinks is the greatest big frikken deal is he supposed to like the same team as everyone else too? hell can he have his own opinion about what to eat? leave this guy alone and go post ur own damn list.
ur a moron, u cant base this list on stats AND ur opinion of talent, it has to be one or the other. if it was stats emmitt smith would be higher. if earl campbell cant be on the list for being a power runner, roger craig shouldnt be on it either for not being as effective in the trenches. faulk should be way higher, and lt should be lower. all in all, ur list sucks ass.
@Jeff1482 Actually Barrys dad said that, not Barry. I like Barry at #1, and Walter #2. Brown should have been a top 5, for his day he was a freak. You have to judge by there day I think.
I made a top 5 list of what I think are the greatest running backs ever. I also made another top 5 list of linebackers. I'm gonna make some more so if you wanna subscribe, that would be nice
Regardless of his short career, I'd have to put Gayle Sayers in here somewhere. Marshall Faulk had the numbers but wasn't spectacular- so I'd bump him outta here.
Hey man, pretty good list. I'd have to say it's the best I have ever seen. I might make one or two minor switches, but Barry #1 for sure. After that, the rest are debatable, lol. You should make a top ten "Running Back Tandem" video.
I agree with you with not putting Emmitt so high up. In fact, I would have put him in #7 or #8 myself, he really was a product of a great offensive line. Payton was a MUCH better RB than Smith. In his early years, his situation was about the same as Barry's, he had no offensive line either.
All this espectaculars players are leyends i think that the best is Brown of the Browns but this list is agreen whit numbers and in this decade those teams are in problems the esample most shoking is Barry Sandes whit the Detoit Lions.
Wow... I swear, everyone who thinks Jim Brown is the best or even in the top 3 is a fucking idiot..
he was NEVER THAT GOOD! Look at the time that he played in, he was the biggest person on the field, if he played in the NFL TODAY he would be a piece of shit. Sorry, but be realistic. I put jim brown as #5 on my list below so people wouldn't get butt hurt. OJ simpson was better than jim brown.
I always think the whole "look at the era the player played" argument isn't a very good one. There were great athletes all throughout sports history. And, OJ Simpson started playing in the league 4 years after Brown retired. Are you saying after those 4 years passed, a new type of football emerged? I would place Jim Brown in my top 3, as most people would. I wonder who the idiot is...
Oh and off the field he was a douche. Even today at fucking 80 years old or whatever he is. Hes always commenting to reporters about what he thinks the browns should do and shit. Who the hell cares? His word doesn't mean shit.
He needs to get off of Adrian Peterson's dick too.
In addition, people often think that athleticism trumps skill in all sports now days. You can run a great 40 and throw up so many reps, but does that mean you're a great ball player? No. It could be a deciding factor if you were having to choose between two players with the same skills, in my opinion.
Okay. Imagine what AD would be like if he was playing against players way smaller and slower than him? It would be ridiculous. Jim Brown was ridiculous. And so was his competition. If he played today he would be best fit as a fullback, simply because defenses are so much more bigger but fast as well... he was like a man among boys when he played. You can't deny that. And you can't deny that the reason he was so successful was because he was the biggest man on the field. Point made.
@lawlwtfcakes0605 Who is AD? And, for the record, Jim Brown is and would still be a half back in today's league. Obviously you haven't seen ANY CLIPS of him run the rock! Why would you have a guy with skills like that be a full back? That's simply the most ridiculous thing I've heard!
AD is adrian "all day" peterson... and yes, I have. Jim Brown like Brandon Jacobs. Brandon Jacobs is bigger than most people on the field (aside from the dts/dends) much like Jim Brown was. And size unfortunately today does not mean much. Hes a 1200/1300 yard back, and if Jim Brown played in this era, he would be a 1200/1300 yard back AT BEST. Face it dude, Jim Brown's era was WAY different than this era, and my point is that the main reason JB was successful was because of his era.
@lawlwtfcakes0605 "A man among boys"? You have no idea what you're talking about. Just go look up the heights and weights of rosters back then. The only thing really different was that you didn't have these 300-lb. fat ass linemen. They were usually 240-270 lbs. One of the reasons bigger linemen are favored today is because HEAVIER=HARDER TO MOVE. And prior to the 50s, players played both ways so a 300-lb guy would have never helped much trying to run a guy down on defense. Point made.
@rickman33 And, also as the passing became more prevalent in offenses, you wanted bigger linemen who can pass block (as opposed to smaller run-blocking linemen). As roster limits also increased throughout the 1950s, you could have more players who "specialized" in playing only one position.
@lawlwtfcakes0605 Seriously, man. Don't get so upset because you don't see that Jim Brown was a great running back. You're entitled to your opinion as we all are, but don't be so juvenile to try and flame people on the internet. Life's too short to get upset because people see things differently.
@lawlwtfcakes0605 LOL at LT top 5 of all times, dude is talented and has the numbers yes, but what has he done in the playoffs sides ride on a bike on the sidelines bytching about I am hurt! He has no heart at all, he is an all world talent or was an all world talent, but dude is overrated as FUKK IMO from that there.

Pretty much right on the money except I probably wouldn't have put Emmitt in the top 10.
Based on an Si survey of 354 NFL players in 2004.
Who Is the Greatest Player You Ever Saw?
John Elway 7%
Joe Montana 8%
Walter Payton 20%
Barry Sanders received the most votes at 30%.
He also got 42% of the vote among players with eight or more years experience.
And this is a poll of all-time players from actual pros. I have a tendency to believe them.

And Earl Campbell was the best between the
MrPBRman 10 months ago
@MrPBRman I agree AP may be fast and all but I mean, he cant lead his team to victory. I am not saying if your team is 18-1 (Patriots hahaha) doesnt mean they have the best players they just know how to play mental and physically football isnt just about speed and power although they help a ton.

Chris Johnson is NOT the fastest player ever.

explain to me how roger craig is better than earl campbell. Earl wasnt just a power runner he had speed he made the 40 yard dash in 4.59 he could juke and he could truck and he has overall better stats than craig

In my opinion had Brown played 16 games like barry sanders did a season he would have higher numbers then Sanders would because they both retired at the peaks of there careers around 30yrs old, which is pretty rare when you have no serious injuriers. I would still take Brown though he held every signficant rushing record when he retired.
boskey10 1 year ago
ColAcoustic 1 year ago
Sorry I agree with your #1 Sanders & #2 Payton picks, but you left out Franco Harris who was a great back. Has the rushing yards and rings to prove it. Leaving Earl Campbell off your list is like taking a bath with your socks on. You just don't get it. Campbell had a short caree to, 10 season I think. He didn't run out of bounce to avoid a hit, he would run you over. Linebackers feared him. Lambert of the Steelers in 70's said he was like tackling a run away truck, and jack was a bad ass LB.
BobPappy1229 1 year ago
i definitely agree with barry at #1. The fact that he accomplished everything without an o-line. poor guy basically had to play 1 vs 11 every play.

xXxlGlHlOlSlTlxXx 1 year ago
@xXxlGlHlOlSlTlxXx dude I checked the stats and he's the only player in NFL history to average over 100 rush yds a game. Sanders' modern day comparison is CJ2K Brown's is AP(minus fumble woes). Sanders will get some all right runs but once he sees a lane he'll break one. Brown was more power and consistency and was pretty elusive. So it's a matter of preference. I love CJ something about him is just awesome and thats why I pick Sanders over Brown but Brown is #2.....but really its just a tie

Brirend 1 year ago
I hate to tell everybody but Detroit had more than one pro Bowl offensive lineman during Sanders time. His line really wasn't that shitty. He was in the run n shoot offense which meant no fullback. So he had always made that one guy miss that would have been blocked by a fullback.

DemonChild821 1 year ago
@DemonChild821 um, please be nice. Look, career rush yards, and TDs aren't the only stats. Look, Emmitt's good, yes. But, he only averagd 4.1 yards per carry behind what might have been the best offensive line in NFL history(yes those are stats too). Thats pretty much why he isn't #1, any questions?
Pandamatrix85 1 year ago 4
@Pandamatrix85 ok i understand but the biggest is career rushing yards right? if offensive line is a big one then put Barry sanders at number one because he had no offensive line But i really dont get Walter Payton being number 1

@Pandamatrix85 Did you ever watch game film of emmitt and how more often then not ran from his blockers?

BTW HOW THE HELL can LT who when he gets breathed on and sits out a big playoff game and sits on the BIKE watching better than Emmitt Smith? Emmitt would be beyond banged up out there getting 100 yards and playing, he would have a broken bone in his shouler or whatever out there playing while Pussyfoots LT who stacked up great numbers did not have the heart to do near what he did, line or not SMITH Is easily better all times. LT is overrated from that IMO, every playoff game he is sitting.

I agree with you with not putting Emmitt so high up. In fact, I would have put him in #7 or #8 myself, he really was a product of a great offensive line. Payton was a MUCH better RB than Smith. In his early years, his situation was about the same as Barry's, he had no offensive line either.

OJ simpson was better than jim brown.
lawlwtfcakes0605 2 years ago
I always think the whole "look at the era the player played" argument isn't a very good one. There were great athletes all throughout sports history. And, OJ Simpson started playing in the league 4 years after Brown retired. Are you saying after those 4 years passed, a new type of football emerged? I would place Jim Brown in my top 3, as most people would. I wonder who the idiot is...
rickman33 2 years ago
@rickman33
Oh and off the field he was a douche. Even today at fucking 80 years old or whatever he is. Hes always commenting to reporters about what he thinks the browns should do and shit. Who the hell cares? His word doesn't mean shit.
He needs to get off of Adrian Peterson's dick too.
lawlwtfcakes0605 2 years ago
In addition, people often think that athleticism trumps skill in all sports now days. You can run a great 40 and throw up so many reps, but does that mean you're a great ball player? No. It could be a deciding factor if you were having to choose between two players with the same skills, in my opinion.
rickman33 2 years ago
@rickman33
Point made.
lawlwtfcakes0605 2 years ago
@lawlwtfcakes0605 Who is AD? And, for the record, Jim Brown is and would still be a half back in today's league. Obviously you haven't seen ANY CLIPS of him run the rock! Why would you have a guy with skills like that be a full back? That's simply the most ridiculous thing I've heard!
rickman33 2 years ago
@rickman33
Face it dude, Jim Brown's era was WAY different than this era, and my point is that the main reason JB was successful was because of his era.
lawlwtfcakes0605 2 years ago
@lawlwtfcakes0605 "A man among boys"? You have no idea what you're talking about. Just go look up the heights and weights of rosters back then. The only thing really different was that you didn't have these 300-lb. fat ass linemen. They were usually 240-270 lbs. One of the reasons bigger linemen are favored today is because HEAVIER=HARDER TO MOVE. And prior to the 50s, players played both ways so a 300-lb guy would have never helped much trying to run a guy down on defense. Point made.
rickman33 2 years ago
@rickman33 And, also as the passing became more prevalent in offenses, you wanted bigger linemen who can pass block (as opposed to smaller run-blocking linemen). As roster limits also increased throughout the 1950s, you could have more players who "specialized" in playing only one position.
