  • thank you sir u r the best <3

  • thank you alex, now I learnt the difference

  • a , an ,the I'm dizzy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • very good lesson

  • Thank you, Alex, very much)

  • And also, "an umbrella" vs "a university" since 'umbrella' starts with sound [u] and 'university' with sound [j].

  • can you please tell me then when it comes to writting - ice-cream, do we use an or a?

    Thank you!

  • love it. really clear teaching technique .thumps up .

  • tanks you very much

  • Just a note about: "An apple is red." You'd probably never say that. Practically and generally, nouns preceding general information are pluralized. i.e. "Apples are red" "Sharks have sharp teeth." would be used... So when describing general attributes... go plural!

  • Alex, thank you soooo much for your lessons

  • very cool person... thank you teacher

  • It is an excellent video,as all of yours, you just forgot to mention that AN has to be used with nouns starting with a vowel.

    Thank you for teaching english.

    Que Dios te bendiga.

  • thanks for the class

  • I like this lesson, because it help me to use arciles.

You taught easy to understand. I thank you so much.

I hope you continue to teach for everybody.

    God bess you.

  • u look sweet with the glasses :)

    love your classes

  • Countable nouns, not count nouns.

  • One person has no grammar skills...

  • It's so incomplete!! Why didn't you say that we could count water and thus "a water" might have been implied as well? For ex. in "I want a water?" (One glass of it.) And why on Earth all Grammarians just wouldn't say: There's no any article at all in instead of saying : Use zero-article??

The Russians have neither articles at all, for ex, They can say "I have dog", and everyone would understand that there's only one dog that I have... :) Be more precise next time, please!

    The best regards!

  • @KingFisheR00011 This is for english buddy, not Russian or any other language. And by the way, it is "eg", not "ex". Water is not countable. The amount can be measured, eg, "I have 4 litres of water", but you cannot have 4 waters. You can have four glasses of water, you can have four bottles of water, but you cannot have 4 waters.

  • @iMacOSXSnowLeopard @Water is not countable.@ It's pretty obvious, man. But that doesn't mean some people can't say being, say, in a bar: "Gimme a water, please" instead, and rather than: "Give me one glass, (bottle), please. Such a contradiction is quite possible, isn't it? Secondly, my "eg" is realy just a missprint for ex. Calm down, man. I'm not an elliterate moron. Jus had some lack of time the day I wrote the previous comment. Sorry/ :) Besides, there's a limit of 500 symbols. :)

  • @iMacOSXSnowLeopard hey bro, I totally disagree. Not to be confusing, but you can have 4 waters, 4 fishes, 4 peoples, 4 woods, 4 rices, or 4 whatever. Everything is countable, we just don't use count-nouns (units) and non count-nons (masses) as such unless we are talking about types. An example of type 2 waters would be fresh water and salt water.

As for 'ex' versus 'eg' both are valid, although the latter is short for the Latin, exempli gratia.

  • @jivo123 I agree, I am aware that you can have two waters, as in two types of waters, i meant as in having 4 physical glasses of water.

  • awsome

  • One person still doesn't know when to use - a or an

  • To open a can of worms: is it "an historic..." or "a historic...?"

  • Thank u man!!!!!

  • Thank you, so helpful! god bless you!

  • @125prashant

    LOL

  • article44 . com

  • Can i use this sentence ? I like drink a glass of water

  • @azy111 "I like to drink..." or "I like drinking..." would be correct, but seem awkward. "I would like..." indicates a desire."I like drinking water." or "I like to drink water." may be better (drinking the water is sufficient information--a glass is implied). Gerunds--verbs used as nouns--form by adding "to" before the infinitive verb or by changing the verb's ending to "-ing," the present progressive, often following some form of "be," such as "am" or "are." Example: "We are studying English."

  • i teach english through TPR, bur i sent my students who are interested in (and ready for) grammar to visit you. i love your videos, you got anything on present progressive?

  • I liked your presentation. It was simple and logical. Thank you very much

  • you sound like one of those english morons. empire etc crumpets muppets.

i do not and i wont speak english i do live in the EU and I the fukkkkk speak AMERICAN !!!!!!!

  • Or you can use a trick to do this

If the word starts with a vowel (AEIOU) use An

If the word starts with a consonant ie (BCDFGHJKLMNP) use A

eg an apple, an egg, an igloo, an octopus, a poppy, a bike

  • thanxxxx alex but upload sum conversation because i know the grammer but i can't speak in english bcz no one talking with me in english only use to speak in hindi language thats why you also upload some conversation Thank you very much . but i like your video teaching it really good man

  • "A" singular noun beginning with a consonant sound: a user (sounds like 'yoo-zer,' i.e. begins with a consonant 'y' sound, so 'a' is used); A UNIVERSITY, A UNICYCLE, A UNIVERSE.

  • Could we also use APPLES ARE RED instead of AN APPLE IS RED for generalizations? What's the difference, if any?
