Probably not historically accurate in every aspect, but Franco personally embodies many similar characteristics both intellectually, emotionally & physically. The American acting trinity of Clift, Brando, Dean - spawned many disciples, but Franco 2 or 3 generations later may be their true heir.

@zthetha The movie had one major flaw , James Dean WAS Winston Dean s son, NO QUSTION. They were not close but not because there was a qustion who Jimmy s dad was or was not. That part is a COMPLETE LIE. . Read any bio on James Dean, any year, even the newer trash crap books, NOT ONE HINT Winston Dean was not James Dean s father/. I have read nearly ALL James Dean bio books and no hint AT ALL. . I think they did get a little nicer to each other the last 3 year not sure they got close

Just saw it and it was way better than I expected, even if it seems kinda rushed in the last 20 mins or so. James Franco really captured his essence for me and did a great job and Mark Rylance obviously spent a lot of time doing his research on the little details. The scene that Rylance made up between Dean and his dad towards the end actually made me cry. Wonderful tribute to a fascinating pop culture Icon.

I, like all of you admire James Dean - I also agree that James Franco is a good actor and looks almost identical to Dean. However, I just didn't buy the acting..it seemed unrealistic.

A good example of more realistic would be Kilmer playing Morrison in the Doors. Despite some obnoxious things in the movie, THAT was pretty damn spot on.
