The reason he stopped moving is a special sensor to detect whether there has been an "intrusion" into the area of the audio-animatronic. The audio-animatronics could injure or worse. So there's an infrared "intrusion" sensor that works by using a laser beam. If the laser beam isn't reflected back the same way every time it scans, it stops the motion of the animatronic assuming someone is in there and could get injured. In this case, the dropped ear set it off by falling in the laser beam.

When the ear didn't go back into the slot, this caused the computer to stop processing the functions. Animatronics work using a series or commands such as "move left arm up", "move fingers", etc.

If one of the commands cannot be processed, the model shuts down and goes into standby mode, as it does here.

This is so that the models do exactly what they should and don't end up being dangerous.

@Tampajoe77 This is for your safety. He didn't brake or malfunction. Technically he did an emergency stop for SAFETY! When something goes wrong with an animatronic, it locks up and goes into a loop so it can't harm anyone. The ear problem is fixed by now and was only temporary. He now works.

Notice, the malfuntion occurred when the ear didn't stick to his head, but there a cool safety figure, you puts it as close to the ground, then one finger at a time drops it gently. If you agree or can confirm my conclusion, like or reply to this comment.

@Bruteofwar I've also noticed, that once the malfunction occurs, all major motor movement cease in his arms and hands (Possibly another safety feature). His eyes look glazed over because the programming of his LCD eyes are linked with the movement of his arms. So, if his arms do not move, his eyes go on a repetitive loop. You have to remember also that there are young children around, so the imagineers programmed this thing with a lot of safety features for this reason ^_^
