I used play Doom / Death Metal when MDB & Anathema were heavily grunting and Paradise Lost released "Gothic",

But I have never, ever heard of a classification by male / female voice.. To me Gothic (Goth for short) only refers to the dark ages (500-1500 AD), and the gothic building style that is so impressive and upward that heaven feels far, far away form the miserable mud that people lived in back then..

Whatever name you choose for a style, it doesn't tell me how good a band sounds at all .

According to the all-mighty and holy Wikipedia, MDB is Death Doom. In this particular album I didn't noticed anything Death except some grunts in The Blood, The Wine, The Roses and another I forgot. Despite that, I liked the album very much. I might consider it Gothic, perhaps Doom Goth. But definitely it is NOT emo. I won't get into arguments but that "subculture" is not even one, and it is a real shame and disgrace that Goth subculture often gets confused with the emo stupidity...

when I really listen to this music I get a comforting feel of doom, therfore i call it doom, goth just doesnt seem to be a powerful enough word. but still i do categorize it as "gothic doom" so why dont we just settle on an agreement of "good sounding music". another thing I had a hear to those bands you said and to me true doom would be a band like EVOKEN. those also seem to be a bit on the gothic side of things.
