its illegal because your originally saying "im serving lefty" and then in the middle of your serve you completely change your form, thats the illegal part of that serve.
@EndlesssWaltz It wouldn't matter its still illegal to change the form of your serve mid serve, tho that serve's legal in recreational matches just not tournaments
It's illegal because your feet have to be firmly set at the baseline..your back foot can come up even with your front foot, then you can jump into the serve...but you are taking a a step , then jumping ! USTA sactioned tourney would not allow it, or any organized body of tennis. Check with the USTA.
it is a completely legitimate serve. small movements of the feet are allowed while multiple steps are not. watch mikhail youzhny, he takes a step with his front foot and then jumps.

crazy foot faults
RtotheYKrn 2 years ago
no foot fault here. anything done after the ball leaves contact is fair game.

Interesting. Volleyball jump serve meets tennis serve.
I wonder how this serve holds up on a windy day, or deep into a 5th set.

makes you look dumb and also gets no power on the serve, oh yeah and it's illegal
BCB113 4 years ago
totally legal as everyone else has said. besides, you don't need power for a serve, placement is more important. (power just helps)
darthtau 3 years ago
no, you need both. i agree that placement is a bit more important. spin is very important as well.
