The US was wrong to invade Iraq. Dead wrong. The 1st Gulf War set up the blow back for 9/11. That does not give Osama a pass for distorting Islamic ideals killing innocents. A pipeline and poppy fields cannot replace the trillion of dollars with conflict will cost. No military person in his right mind knowing the history of Afghanistan would want anything to do with the country. It's not an economic fight but a clash of civilization. So, what in the end should we do when faced with such an enemy. Asymetric warfare should be fought with Asymetric warfare. No troops on the ground. No illegal conflicts in Iraq for oil. Develop the human intelligence on the ground to kill or capture the organization that planned the attacks. That means using the CIA.

The above didnt happen so the present administration has to undo a poorly managed conflict on two fronts. It does not look good. But, I support them in their effort.

The pipeline is not an economically viable idea to invade a country known as the grave yard of empires. The Bush Cheney administration mismanaged this conflict. However, no nation state on this earth could have taken hit like that on 9/11 and not respond in kind in force. Drug use in the US and Europe is a public health issue which is spurred on by economic, cultural and social factors in each country.

Nato is in Afghanistan because it is being used as base to launch terrorist attacks against the west. The main object of that hostility is the US which is a member of Nato.
