There are more than just a few. There were 500 made, and you cannot buy them new anymore unless someone bought it, didn't use it, and is now reselling it. They are plugged into a computer and assigned different characteristics and sequences through the software that you find. It does not come with it as far as I know. Deadmau5 talks about it in one of his interviews with Wired if you just look up deadmau5 wired interview

@undrtow2188 No, this is not correct. First of all, you can buy monomes new. They're made in small batches 3-4 times a year and you simply have to wait for the next batch. Second, there are way more than 500 grid monomes in the world. Maybe you're thinking of the first 40h model, of which 400 units were made. That was five years ago. Finally, this is a 512, of which 10 were made.
