Maybe our expectations for white people are too high. While we as blacks remember all of these racially insensitive "compliments", most whites don't remember. I believe them when they say they dont know. And when youre the majority and on the other side of the street, you dont have to. It wouldnt hurt them to know some history like that so they do understand but again, why would you if you dont have to? Ive just accepted white america for what it is.

Maybe our expectations for white people are too high. While we as blacks remember all of these racially insensitive "compliments", most whites don't remember. I believe them when they say they dont know. And when youre the majority and on the other side of the street, you dont have to. It wouldnt hurt them to know some history like that so they do understand but again, why would you if you dont have to? Ive just accepted white america for what it is.

When I was growing up in the 60s and 70s white people would say to me, "Oh, you're so well spoken" and "you are a credit to your race" all of the time, and even at a young age, I realized it was a back handed compliment. However, there was no malicious intent behind them. Bush is white and Obama is black, now people are acting like they didn't notice. Both sides of the argument are true, my response is, "SO WHAT?"
