  • is the neck narrow? cuz it looks like it is very narrow.. =)

  • @pakvanjdam Yes the Neck is very narrow.

  • I enjoyed the video and loved the music. I have been a huge Wes fan since the late 60's.

  • is this guitar full hollow? thanks!

  • @rawrfosho Yes.

  • Great Video,

Hank garlands design is nothing short of Genius as was his music,

  • This lovely guitar was made when Gibson put quality above quantity. Not like today. Nearly all Gibson guitars made today totally suck, the workmanship, finishes, and especially the lousy string spacing drive me nuts! I mean, look at the old style strings with the cloth wrapping at the ends, a little extra touch to help prevent the strings from possibly scratching the finish and the hardware. See that today? NOT! Thank you for putting up this video, I enjoyed it very much!

  • Correct me if I'm wrong. In the early 60's Ted Nugent heard Jim McCarty playing a Brydland guitar with the sharp cutaway and a Fender twin reverb amp. Nugent wanted that identical sound. That's when Ted decided to transition to that combination. McCarty was the lead guitar player for Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels in those days.

  • @altemailuser - You're right on the money, that guitar and amp combination had a big influence on Ted. Before that, he was either playing a Fender Duo Sonic or a bigger hollow body Epiphone. Jimmy McCarty is a god to Ted, probably the only guitarist he ever praised without bringing up their other sins, unfortunately. Aside from that, you can't go wrong with a good semi-hollow and a Fender Twin or even a Deluxe Reverb. Great sounds for sure.

  • Wow very nice guitar -greetings from germany - winni

  • Thanks. Could help recognise the real from the many fakes when on a mission to find one.

  • I thought it sounded L-5 and Wes like, then at 3:05 this clip states music is by The Montgomery Brother, the guitarist would have been Wes who

played an L-5 not a Byrdland. But hey, he may have owned lots of different guitars, but L-5 was his signature choice and has a fairly unique sonority. comments welcome.

  • Long live the Byrdland, an absolute winner by Gibson! Propably the best guitar in the world. Although, that's propably said because I'm a lucky *** of a b**** and own a 1969 sunburst model.

Just great to play, ebony fretboard to die for and great for all musical styles.

  • Are those nylon bridge saddles? My '67 ES335 has 'em...

I owned a '63 Byrdland back when I wanted to be Ted Nugent when I grew up. I never could understand how he could play that guitar, that loud!

    Lovely guitar, thanks for sharing!

  • Yes nylon bridge saddles.

  • @BB2009LZ He filled them up with paper.... another remedy to look cool on stage and play a LP Standard in the studio... .

Apparently, after speaking to someone who s worked on some of ZZ TOP guitars... it is a usual trend to have different shaped guitars which sounds all the same.... Sadly but true I only have Les Paul which costed me 16 hours shifts 2 times a week for months... but Guess what? there 's only one LP that s been modded like mine and that is my Les Paul.

    Peace

  • the byrdland guitar is a amazing guitar I still have the oreginal papers when hank was designing the byrdland guitar.billy garland the hank garland family
