I absolutely love this song. It has a Carole King/Laura Nyro feel obviously. Todd's earliest stuff was so freakin' soul stirring. I prefer this version to the medley which appears on most copies of the album. Long live the runt.
has anyone got info on the relationship between todd and laura (two of my favorite musicians)? i know they met in '68, he wrote this homage to her and he assisted on her "mother's spiritual" album (1984). other than that i haven't been able to find out anything more. ciao.
@6ganey9 1of2 I just read this on TR's wikipedia page: Particularly during the early years of his career, Rundgren's songwriting was heavily influenced by the music of singer-songwriter Laura Nyro:
"I knew her fairly well. I met her right after Eli and the Thirteenth Confession. I actually had arranged a meeting, just because I was so infatuated with her and I wanted to meet the person who had produced all this music.
@6ganey9 2of2 (cont'd quote) We got along, and we were kind of friendly, and actually, after I met her the first time, she asked me if I wanted to be her band leader. But the Nazz had just signed a record contract and I couldn't skip out on the band, even though it was incredibly tempting."
again, thanks for posting...
