@brwnhoney You don't have to be flexible really. We do this in ballet class and if your not flexible you just throw your legs apart and you don't hold it with your hands. Then eventually you will get flexible enough to hold it down with your hands. :)
If they cause you pain that means they are streching you however if it is more than muscle pain stop immediately! Maybe you are not doing them correctly?
No, it's not from a stretch, I'd feel that. I think they are just doing more harm than good, they are inefficient for me. Perhaps It's just the anatomy of my body in particular. That's all.
they are uncomfortable for me to do too, but we do them in technique classes where i dance, and it helps if i stretch my legs out really well before i do these.
they work if you dont drop your legs to fast, or try to push yourself too far (just far enough), but you should stretch your legs well before trying these, it makes it much less uncomfortable.
i improved my straddle by laying on my back, butt against the wall and my legs out in second. just dangling there. gravity pulls your legs down, its amazing. for like 5 mins everyday
will this help if your attempting to do a tilt?
MusicIsMyWorld36 3 months ago
@MusicIsMyWorld36 yes it does. a tilt is like standing in straddle..good practice.

That doesn't stretch your hip flexors, it stretches your inner thighs.

I hate these, they hurt, and do nothing for me. They do not help me and only make things worse and cause me pain.

agree with you on this, not a good excercise unless you have good flexibility and control in the hips. This would kill my back though if I did it.

i love doing these because they really help! but everytime i do them i stop because it seems as if i might tear somthing you know?

we do these in my dance school. :) they really help.

We do this stretch except we have to have our legs to the ground when we do it. It stretches really good but it kind of hurts.
DancerChickies 3 years ago
yeah you should be careful with the immediate dropping of your legs like that, you should definitely be warm and control the motion
comeontheremustbeone 3 years ago

Better be warm first! dropping your legs open that fast, when your hips are not properly prepaired can cause muscule damage!!!!!
musescrytears 3 years ago 2
that looks kinda painful!
ilovejonasbrothers63 3 years ago
make sure you warm up before you pop your legs open like that... they really shoudl have mentioned that so you woudln't hurt yourself

I find it you use the "clams" stretch it really helps ballet turn out.

I do that but i'm worried that it's not good for your muscles to hold it for that long.
