Just a question. Why don't the troopers have any tanks? I haven't seen much of the movie bt what I have I have never seen a tank in.

The simple answer?

The government didn't give a damn about their troops. The idea behind the movie and really the book itself, was trying to get the point across that humanity wasn't much different than the bugs. The bugs throw their troops out without worry of casualties, and the humans did the same.

Read the book, it's way better than the movie. In the book they are in mech-type suits that would chew up a tank right away. Rico even says in the book that nobody would be silly enough to actually put tanks up against them in their mech suits. Saying that the government did not care about them would be incorrect, but to quote Colonel Dubois (Mr. Rasczak in the movie) "figuring things out for yourself is the only freedom anyone really has, use that freedom."

And if your lazy, you could watch Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicals. It is a LOT closer to the book than this. It even has the skinnys.

Yes, it is true that their suits were better than tanks. But one of the biggest reasons tanks aren't used is because the terrain is not suited for tanks.

well the satirical reason would be that the name of the Infantry fighting force of the Federation is called mobile infantry...yet have no tracked or mobile vehicles save for the drop ship. The real life military reason is because the planets they fought on in these movies would not have been kind to any tracked vehicle, to rough, and rocky, to many canyons and mountains.

In the book, tanks were considered obsolete with the "cap trooper". Unlike the movie, a cap[sule] trooper had a powered armor suit that augmented his strength and speed, as well as having a multi-channel integrated communications system. Cap troopers were launched in a single capsule (hence the name) directly from the ship, with his capsule ablating away during descent. This had the added value of creating multiple radar targets to confuse the defenders. Not a full explanation, but a try.

I watched the third one the day it was released and I have to say it wasn't that bad. Still no where near as good as the first but WAYYYYYY better than the second. It's worth watching. It's closer to the book too which helps it a bit. (The Marauder scene made me giddy)

I know this isn't relative to this video, but one of the things I don't understand in this movie is the fact that all the soldiers wear this armor, supposedly for protection, but it doesn't even seem to protect them at all; like at 2:42 the bug is able to pierce right through the armor with no problem at all...so if the armor doesn't even protect them, then what's the point in having it weigh them down and be in the way...other than just to look cool

Standard for the Mobile Infantry I guess... kinda like the Stormtroopers in Star Wars... they all have that armor but it doesn't do anything... the Rebels without any armor at all survive longer.

Good vid I've always wondered why with their awesome weapons technology those Federation retards didn't give their troops some better shit than those Morita guns I mean at Whiskey Outpost a few trench mortars or grenade launchers would have fucked those aliens to hell and if they'd sent in one of those supersonic bombers from earlier on they could have wiped them out without losing a single trooper

personally my favorite part is with the plasma bugs when they explode... I didn't even have to mess with that clip's speed at all to get it to fit with the 'BANG BANG' there... the first one blows on the first bang and the second one blows on the second :P
