@maciejlondyn There's a setting in your BIOS to switch from IDE to SATA. or SATA to IDE. you have a newer computer, and the new computers don't have the old hard drives, there SATA. windows xp can't install on these new hard drives. only IDE.

@orlandowwe9 If the CD is in the drive, make sure your BIOS is set to boot from the CD First.. then when you restart the computer, the comp should say, Please press Any key to boot from the CD Rom..

I have a 7 year old laptop. When i try to install xp, it says 'cannot copy files' multiple times, and setup fails. I've only tried NTFS (quick), which didnt work, so now im trying NTFS (long). it's been going on for 18 hours and it's only at 60%. Is that normal? @elpshook Iso is just a name for the image file and OS is the operatinng system hence windows XP if u have the ISo then buy a blank DVDRW and burn ISO image on to it a software i would recommend is IMGburn its awsome and easy to use

look if you want to reboot the computer as in wipe the computer clean, you will need a {operating system} disk (CD) reinstallation cd microsoft depending on what you use. EX: dell, gateway, HP, and so forth. You was givin these if purchased new. If you dont have one get one on ebay cheap! any other questions send me mail.

Hey, i tried to do the things you suggested, but, it didn`t work. I put the xp cd into the cd drive, (it has xp pro, windows service pack 3) and, when i tried to restart the computer, nothing happened.

The reason i`m trying to setup is that my computer had a virus, and, when i cut on the comp, windows won`t start, it just shows the background, but not the icons or even start. I need help!

enter the password if theres a passcode for the setup for the computer.

You need to find change Hard Drive from SATA to IDE.

If it doesn't have that option, which I'm really sure it most definitely should.

Each disk has a certain number, and apparently you can only use them once. But there's an 800 number you can call to reset it or something, but I have yet to find it. I'm having the same problem.
