  • What about going sideways with those wheels? Not joking or anything, but are the wheels durable enough to sustain a 4000 lbs. car inflicting force sideways?

  • wouldn't you have to replace the whole wheel once the tread wore off?

  • What about vibrations beyond 50mph? What about not being able to adjust tyre pressure accordingly?

  • They could just close the sides and there would be no friction or noise and still work the same.

  • more friction...lower mpg.

  • How much are these tweel tires ?

  • They have 3 years till the Back to the Future time line catches up for hover boards

  • I want one like that now please !!

  • Future cars will hover and won't need any wheels tweels or peels..they just want to make some money on this first before they go onto hovering

  • good name tweel. tire and wheel. text never gets irony. micheling idiots

  • i like it to see it tested in snow

  • MICHELIN is still highest. Bridgestone in our Japan was defeated.

  • Would these tires wear out quicker because more of the tires surface is touching the road? improving handling but making turning harder on the tire?

  • incredibbbbble

  • How will snow and ice effect the wheel when it gets in the spokes, will it offset the balance of the wheel?

  • @Zippy1one The absence of walls is just to show the airless nature of the tire. Production tires would have walls.

  • How will the cops spike these? LOL

  • @BuclkeNutz Maybe that's why they didn't becoem popular?

  • @CadenBurleson LOL, back ground check to buy this tire

  • and how long will they last and they had air less tires before like a spoonge material

  • Why is the guy in the centaur/sintar/whatever 4 wheeled thing at the end wearing a helmet? Should the audience be given helmets, too?

  • ZAJEBISTE !

  • nothing runs forever, this guy is faking

  • How much are these tires? I want a set.

  • @SidedriverDotCom i would think that they are enough money to buy two of them Michelin men lol

  • Where can i buy them for a sedan? Can i get a link or something?

  • But can you do burnouts with them ?

  • woah woah woah TWO THOUSAND FOUR?????

WHERE THE HELL HAS THIS BEEN FOE THE LAST 7 YEARS

  • More shit for rich people only.

  • my issiues whit this wheel would be for thq quebec winter, where the tire will stuff itself of snow and ice and gain some weight, so it will get more heavy and use more gas.

  • I'm always surprised by how many engineering geniuses are posting comments on youtube.

  • Automobile has advanced very little. A 5 year old child could come up with a better vehicle.

About time someone is starting to think. THis could lead to other ideas. Tires are expensive too. We just have to get rid of petroleum run cars. It would also mean peace.

  • @haraldschl what do you call hydrogen and electric car, a downgrade? It seems you must have loads of ideas to help the industry to advance... please let the world know...

  • That is one UGLY tire.

  • i wonder how it will work in cold areas whit snow? when the snow can get stuck between the spokes and freec up over night. on morning it will be hard as hell.

  • warranty of 2 months...

  • Is it already for sale?

  • oh so i see the military gets the high quality one piece rubber hex whells while the the rest of us are stuck with this fucking junk?

  • @Southern661 looks like shit too

  • now instead of just replacing a flat tire, youve just got to get a whole new wheel when one of those spokes crack...

  • but will it drift?????????

  • this is so much better then buying tires every year. yea that's right. i can't rotate my tires, its staggered set up meaning rear is wider then front but the government wouldn't allow it. they want us to spend money on buying, replacing tires.

  • How can you people be so stupid it's a proven fact that wagon wheels are the way of the future just ask any Cowboy.

  • You just know every nigger is going to buy this tire. Word to the niggers , this tire will not work. With a pneumatic tire it has air pressure, when you hit a bump the tire compresses and the tire pressure increases as your tire is compressed, keeping your "PeP Boys" low class nigger wheels healthy. Look at the vid, when the tire is put under stress in the corner it damn near touches the rim, now add a bump.. Silly niggers, spokes are for Schwinns. Why do we bother, stupidity is inbred.

  • I just hope they have better looking rims than those honeycombs. They need this for bicycle applications.

  • @FCA1975 This is meant to mount on any rim just like any other tire, your stupidity amazes me, I look forward to You owning these tires.

  • if i put these tires on my car will get me more chicks?

  • nice... 14 inch wheels. i bet it they're a hell to replace, as are the run-on-flat tyres.

  • Hmmm.....what about if you put a full load into the car? How can you adjust the "tyre pressure"? And what about aerodynamic resistance?

  • Yah but how would they look on a set of 22" rims? Don't think you'll get the same type of bling from a low profile tire.

  • I've been waiting for this to come out for over 5 years now.

  • soundsgreat.it looks very vulnerable to having the spokes slashed with a razor blade?

  • @robert66michel are standard tyres not also as vulnerable to simply having the sidewall slashed?

  • @WhiteBrosTrials ,thats correct. and if a tweel costs the same as a standard tire i see no problem.if however it costs the same as rims and tires together then things start getting very exspensive very fast.I hope that they will be cheap enough to be practical because I,d love to have them on my cars.

  • so is this on the market now ?

    can it stand for 270 km/h ?

  • lol, the tweel will make the spike traps the police use obsolete XD

now they are going to have to absolutely destroy the tires on cars

  • @PowerQube1234 your comment is so incredibly stupid it's not even worth commenting on.. I have no life, so I reply, you have an IQ on 49.95

  • @greasemo12 in theory it will. the objective of spike traps is to deflate the tire and make the car practically run on rims. with no air in the tire, how can it be deflated? the traps are going to have to tear the entire tire off the wheel in order to produce the desired affect. and how does one have an IQ "on" 49.95? it seems kind of difficult to put a score from a test used to measure intelligence on a number. i think the correct word you were looking for was "of"

  • when i was 8 i had the same idea =.=

    nobody ever listen ' =.=

  • 177 people have flat tires

  • so where is the tweel then? this video has been on youtube for over 4 years yet i have never seen the tweel on a car.

  • @EEJAS They're planning on using it in scooters and other slow vehicles first.

  • Da pra fazer drift?

  • when are they coming out

  • How do I get a set of those for my audi? I would test them for the company... please Michelin

  • I wonder how long the 'spokes' last before they fatigue crack.

  • This is the reason i don't think these will ever catch on.

  • When is it out??

  • can it drift?

  • @rpblcan thats exactly what i was thinking

  • @dividad1 High 5!

  • your gonna get a broken rim with those theres no way you can run them low profile

  • If oil companies didn't make so much money from the current tires, these things could be available next year.

  • okay...it may be better...but it´s FREAKING UGLY!

  • tire or tyre who bloody cares

  • he's probably a little kid so don't base America that way... most know that ( I watch top gear a lot)... Plus I prefer rugby than football.

  • i hope everyone knows that this idea has been around since the pneumatic tyre was invented.

  • Bloody Americans, It is TYRE in the UK and TIRE in the US. Just shows that flori27 is uing the UK spelling.

    Please stop complaining.

  • Wow there is ZERO sidewall flex!! This thing must make cars give such precise steering feedback.

  • What happens when you get mud in it? Seems it would be totally out of balance.

  • People... Tire and Tyre are the same freaking word, but are more regional. Similar is boot, trunk, and decklid, or hood and bonnet. You need to be less closed minded...

  • thank heaven someone is doing something to improve wheel technology-it's been way to long since we've seen a major step forward in that field.

  • Comment removed

  • how would this tyre handle lateral g's compared to pneumatic?

  • @ttiffom2016 watch the video and look at the turns

  • @chinhhhhh i did... i was actually meaning on performance cars. like pulling close to or over 1.0 lateral g's

  • @ttiffom2016 Im pretty sure with out side walls the tweel would be able to grip the road a lot better than a air filled tire.

  • i bet u cant do a burnout in it....

  • Michelin-= plagiarist.

GErmans already invented this in 1915.

The example is in Deutsche Museum in Munich.

British also stole- for Gloster Meteor Ffont wheel built by Dowty

The vehicle was the Alkett-Raümgerät Mine Sweeper built in 1942- but designed from a German tractor built in 1915

I will later post real photo.

  • I would not have believed you until I read the words "Germans" They have always had the best engineering minds hands down . Cars, Military, electronics, dogs, beers, pens, you name it and if it has " Made in Germany" I will do my best to buy it. Oh and lets not leave out the German women by far there best invention to date.

  • COPS will have to find a new way to stop a car now, no more spikes, or bullets

  • try searching on youtube: X-net vehicle arrest system

  • a bullet in their face would do the trick

  • @landonClementeC i wasthinking the same thing thy probably wont make them legal for that reason are gay goverment

  • check out future weapons with a new kind of strip to stop vehicles dead in their tracks.

goes poof and wraps around the axles, pretty awesome

  • @Nielsx1 some sort of ''dragnet''?

  • yea probably, i saw it on futureweapons a while ago, its pretty awesome lol

  • Nielsx1 you really are a mindless drone

  • @landonClementeC True that. Only other method that comes to mind to stop criminals in their getaway vehicles (equiped with Tweels) without killing them is to place a sniper somewhere the getaway vehicle is forced to go and land a precise shot to the radiator or other vulnerable part of the engine to slow them down.

  • @landonClementeC They'll just shoot for the driver now...

... or they will put in every new car with a master control the government will have...

hello brave yew world and the new world order...

  • @landonClementeC

Nah bullets still work if they hit a spoke in the rim, or if they break a component in the suspension. But yes I get your point.

  • @landonClementeC there already is a way: a carbon fiber or steel net that raps around the weels blocking them... it' s on for a few years now; it has the advantage that it dosen't make the car flip over or create an accident by blowing the tires; it just stops it smooth and fine

  • @hekasoram your like the 20th person who has told me something that cops can do now. i dont need anymore info.

  • I HAVE A TWEEL CONDOM , IT'S BULLETPROOF,SPIKEPROOF,aaaaa......WOMANPROOF....???!?!?

  • @landonClementeC

they have a special device for a long time already. it's a remote control device which runs under criminals car and turn's off the engine.

  • @landonClementeC Instead of spikes, all you need is a long 45 degree angled BLADE faced towards the oncoming car. The blade will cut the outside rubber shell and damage the structure. Done!

  • @landonClementeC

yeah OnStar shuts the engine down .....next question pls ??

  • @Hoschi0913 FOR FUCK SAKES!! look at how many people have told me solutions, please scroll down. look twice before you comment.

  • @landonClementeC

perhaps you should had thought about what you comment first

  • @Hoschi0913 perhaps you should have thought about what date i commented, then you'd know how many comments told me about new ways to stop the tweel.

  • The standing wheelchair they had is nothing new Dean Kaman invented it several years ago

  • yeah but the wheels on it are the new part

  • About time! Tire technology has not significantly changed since it's invention over 100 years ago. Michelin has definitely moved tire technology to the next level.

  • except they haven't made it available for cars...

  • @Iluv2raceit This has to be one of the most uneducated comments I have read in a while. Though the "look" of tires hasn't changed alot, the construction process, materials, and quality of tires has VASTLY changed and improved over 100 years.

  • @Iluv2raceit

    In 1946: Radial tire

    In 1955: Tubeless tire

These changes are very significant for the tire technology!

  • @Iluv2raceit if it aint broke, dont fix it.

  • @Iluv2raceit The government wouldn't allow it...

  • When does the tweel would go out in the market? I would like to try it!

  • The question is, will it drift?

The amount of sag or squish or whatever you want to call it would depend on the hardness and structure of the rubber used. By adjusting the hardness of the rubber, you could mimic the effect of more or less air. Besides the open bits on the sides (which would probably be covered) I don't imagine that this would ride much differently than a standard tire, provided that the internal spokes were properly designed.

  • I did not think they would bring staypuff with them to something like this, if i was there i would have laughed

  • @kidvideo90 His name is Bibendum.

  • I know, I was just kidding around...obviously it wasn't very funny

  • Sweet! If I had tires like this I wouldn't have to worry about getting those annoying flat tires like I do with air tires. Also the cops would have a harder time stopping you if you used these tires. The spike strips and the shooting out the tires tactics would be useless on these wheels.

  • mpg would be awful with those on a car...

  • Why?

  • More surface area = more friction = worse mpg

  • But the new surface area is enclosed by the tire's edge, isn't it?

  • still, it is like driving on a flat.

  • Wiki says it has better handling.

  • That makes sense, I mean look at a tank... great handling but it only gets 1mpg due to weight and surface area...

  • Oh you mean more surface area touching the ground? I don't see that on the video. Besides, they said the experimental spokes are made to be easily adjustable for different values.

  • Im by no means saying I'm an expert but in the other videos of the car their is an obvious flatness to them. I think it would handle better though

  • definatly would handle better and feel more comfortable

  • How do you figure sports fan? Friction has nothing to do with surface area. it's only a product of the friction coefficient and the normal load. You can prove this to youself by nailing a string to the end of a piece of 2x4 and pulling. How hard you have to pull is the same if the small surface is on the counter, or the large one is.

  • I should have been more clear because it sags due to the weight of the car increasing rolling resistance and therefore would be harder to speed up and slow down. The main factor is rolling resistance and as you know driving on firmer more inflated tires is will have better mpg than driving on semi-deflated tires.

This is why bike tires are thin and extremely highly inflated, to avoid wind resistance, require less power, and have less rolling resistance.

Tires on glass experiment proved this.

  • ça doit couter cher

  • i have seen these tires in person and can tell you they are going to be awesome. one of the things that would be possible to do with them is to take the tread off and replace it for different seasons or reasons. different tread for winter and summer without changing rims or the sidewall. oe lets say street legal and a racing slick. lots of options probably 10 to 15 years away from serious production.

  • I'd like to see what happens when you do a burnouts and wear out the tire

  • Nous les Français ont pensent que l´on est des cons par les autres pays des étrangers pauvres

  • coś niesamowitego :]

  • michelin would never release this. it would mean a loss in profits.

    a tire that runs forever?

    less need of demand.

    prbbly cheaper too.

    lower profit margins.

  • Which is why they will sell it at a higher price point.

Wouldn't you pay extra for a tire that doesn't ever need to be re-pressurized?

You still need to replace the wheel regularly to get new tread on it.

  • Cradle:

The tread does not last forever.

Besides, Michelin is probably smarter than you seem to portray them. If they don't produce tires with new technology, someone else will do so and Michelin will be left behind.

  • it doesnt need maintenance, it doesnt run forever. but that just means instead of filling it up, you have to buy a new one (unless you can fix it somehow) when its no longer useable. plus the companies that cant produce this (once the tech is perfected) will be run out of business, or will no longer be able to compete in that field.

  • is he serious. a valvle complexed? haha what a jackass

  • I like my Michelin tires.

The Tweel looks very promising. I'm sure there are many things that need to be addressed, but it looks awesome. Imagine something like the tweel off-road.

  • Michelin has brought some real garbage to the market. First Metric rim sizzes, then the PAX system now this. This is another failure for the rolly polly michemin man

  • yeah those metric sizes are a bitch, the tires for those rims are more expensive then standard sizes. WTF!

  • are these real? or a really good joke

  • Not a joke. These are production fitments on several applications (Mars Rover & Skid Steer tractors used in construction).

  • When will mass production start?

  • This press release is from 2005. Four years ago. Nothing has happened since. The tweel is a great idea but the technology has nothing on standard pneumatic tires. You have a long time to wait.

  • also this tweel wouldnt perform better as regular tire on different surfaces....

  • Would it work for rallying or drifting, it would be a really useful thing if we new how quick it could corner and powerslide on sand.

  • i dont think it will drift good at all. they seem to have only tested it for regular legal roadtraffic.

  • it has, just not for cars. they are gonna use em in third world countries, the military, and rovers. once they figure out how to use em for higher speeds they will sell them in 1st world countries for modern cars and such

  • so were going to have disabled people doing wheelies in the iBot? cant wait

  • Tweelies that is

  • will it work on my 22" rims?

  • polyurethane and frn or zytel?

    lol

  • I know my english isn't perfect at all, but

if tyre isn't spelled correctly, you should send an email to all the major tyre manufacturers, to tell them that their websites contains mistakes.

  • @flori27 - It is spelled Tire.

  • Wikipedia: "A tire (in American English) or tyre (in British English) is a ring-shaped covering that fits around a wheel rim to protect it and enable better vehicle performance by providing a flexible cushion that absorbs shock while keeping the wheel in close contact with the ground."

    You're both right ;)

  • @flori27 it all depends on what country your in

in europe its tyre, in north america its tire.

  • Or maybe you should get it through your thick skull that not everyone is American. Not everyone knows or needs to know english. Youtube is an multinational website and a mistake like a small misspelling should not a reason to offend somebody. Potato patato...who gives a fuck? Thank the guy for the movie prick.
