This is the point in his life when Jimmy's voice finally "cracked'. I think he was 40 when it happened. Prior to this he had the speaking voice of a pre-teen boy. This is also the time where he and Eddie Van Halen looked alike. Maybe, it's an Asian thing....not sure.
@Rafterman123 Actually he played the telecaster on the first LZ album & then switched to a les Paul from the 2nd LP onwards w/ some exceptions ie; tele for the "stairway" solo or the danelectro for "Kashmir" the double neck for "carouselambra" etc.
Do you have the entire interview somewhere on here? I dont see anything but this small snipet... which I do appreciate as much as any Page fan out there. But I was hoping to see the whole thing. I do hope you have it for us all to enjoy. So...
@baronsting There are (3) clips with Jimmy Page and Les Paul on my YouTube Channel. The clips of Jimmy and Les were videotaped at Les' house right after Live Aid 1985. Jimmy loved Les Paul and took the time to get to see him at his house. It was heaven. Do subscribe to FrontRowMusicNYC. More great clips will be coming soon. Enjoy and thanks.
Jimmy's real talent had nothing at all to do with music. It was pinache. He knew from day one when he first laid eyes on that doubleneck that it was what was going to separate him from other guitarists in terms of memory. People remembered the guitar, so they remembered Pagey.
@tardwhisperer Page started out playing a Fender Telecaster on the first three albums and he is most famous for playing a Les Paul Standard. He got the doubleneck guitar after he was already famous. So his talent had to do with his talent, not the guitar
LOL..knock on wood, that was priceless..what you people are forgetting is that at this time zeppelin were has beens..they regained popularity through radio play after they were over with bonhams death..jimmy was probably happy to do any show he could.
@gumbeet You're right it was priceless. But Led Zeppelin weren't has beens at that time. Jimmy just finished Live Aid in Philadelphia on a Sunday. Jimmy didn't do very many interviews at the time. He certainly didn't need me and my little show for self promotion. The purpose was to get Jimmy together with his idol Les Paul at Les' house. He wanted to do the interview that Monday but I couldn't do it until Thursday. He stayed around until Thursday to do this. He was cool. Subscribe!
@gumbeet Led Zeppelin were in HUGE demand. From 1968 to now. In no time or space were the band a joke. Maybe to a few people, but those few people are the same ones that rate Led Zeppelin and Michael Bolton in the same category. Led Zeppelin sold record amounts of tickets for 1980. It would have been the single biggest tour in history. It was prepped to be just that. Led Zeppelin was considered almost Holy to the music industry, and still are or should be. These young bands now know nothing.
@JustinDavidPierce I dont know if you remember the music scene in the 79-80 as well as I do, a big difference from Ledzep last US tour in 77. Ledzep final shows were in smaller venues around europe and you are saying they were in great demand? New wave was all rage at this time, soon the rerun rock stations began playing zep songs and zep got many post bonham fans..ironicly, if U view some late zep shows they are Amazing. the band even speeds up some songs ala punk style.
@gumbeet Actually that is true. I went and watched some 1980 Zep bootlegs, and they do speed them up and make them more punkish. Example: Train Kept A Rolling, All of My Love, Achilles Last Stand, Kashmir, Trampled Underfoot is a great example.
@JustinDavidPierce yup...those shows were amazing.of course I wish I could say I saw them in 77 my older did and I turned down his offer to go see them. arrghhhhhh .I think their best stuff was still the last gigs..and I think my calling that band has beens is maybe a bit far. think Im making myself feel better cause if I said "yes" to my brother they would have been my first concert I ever saw...
@FrontRowMusicNYC That must of been great playing Jimmy Page's guitar and meeting him. Is he hard to understand when your talking to him in person? Sometimes I don't understand what he's saying.
@TheGrandHighway DUDE...I KNOW...That's like touching the fucking Queen!!!
But, Jimmy was like whatever...which is awesome. He looked a little drunk in this video though...god that's a bad ass guitar though...:) I know I know...it's just a guitar...but since I was a kid I've idolized it.
jimmy page is a legend and in my opinion modern guitar players such as slash and van halen owe a lot to him because he was their inspiration but about his guitar if i was you and id been there i wouldnt have touched it without knowing it was insured because as a guitar player myself i know gibson sg necks are very weak if you drop one it usually means the end of the neck but they do sound awesome and i bet it was heavy ive tried an epiphone version and even they r heavy
