This is really how MGS1 should have ended. Except for the Meryl dying part. This does seem to flow more naturally into MGS2. Without it, there are a few plot-holes around the creation of Philanthropy. How did they find each other after Snake and Meryl split?

Actually, there's four Snakes, total, but only two of them are game protagonists. MG 1, 2 and MGS 1, 2, and 4 are the story of Solid Snake. He's the main protagonist of the series, and the one you know best (no eyepatch). MGS3 is a prequel, featuring Big Boss (eyepatch), back when his code name was "Naked Snake." Solid, Liquid, and Solidus Snake are all clone babies of Big Boss, attempting to genetically replicate the perfect soldier, hence why have the same codename.

#1- Because Naked Snake is Big Boss, the father of the Snake brothers. Therefore, Naked Snake is not Solid Snake.

#2- Solid Snake's real name (David) has nothing to do with David Hayter, it's just a pure coincidence.
