  • man, all I can think of is possibility that the presenter might be an immortal highlander =P

  • I love how excited the historian is about the history.

  • where's william wallace?

  • @jimandre12244 1: All of Scottish history is not contained in Braveheart.

2: William Wallace appears in a later episode. This takes place before 1000, Wallace came to power in the late 13th century.

  • @PT8475 - William Wallace was a nobleman and a freedom fighter and National Hero, but he was never in 'power' only prominence. Robert the Bruce became the King.

  • @jimandre12244 thanks

  • Albania?

  • @thetawaves48 well, not quite! The similarity is coincidental. Plus Albania is not the word natives use for their country, it is , if I'm not mistaken, Shqipëri.

  • I would love to see The History of Scotland being made into a blockbuster movie ! Would be such a great story..... Especially the times of the pagan picts.

  • The Scottish are a mixture of both Gaelic and Pict

  • @KnightoftheMountains The Scots are actually far more Pictish than anything else, at least 75% upwards.

The Gaels in Dál Riata are fought to be just another Pictish sea fairer tribe that often travelled from S~W Scotland to N~E Ireland and back again as they were closer to Picts than the Irish Gaels of Connacht and Munster, plus the Irish called the Ulstermen as "Cruithne" - 'Tribe of Designs' and Pictish in old Irish, the Irish also called all of Scotland by that name and every one in it.

  • @Calengela

"75% upwards" Where did you get those "facts" from

  • Can we agree to disagree and say that those who are brought up in Scotland know the land better, and that those who consider themselves "Scottish" do so because it is integral part of their identity? I think Scottish people shouldn't defer to them, of course, but be proud that your people and nation is so important to people far and wide! Scottish, English, Welsh, etc., aren't races, their identities. Check out the current genetic research... 80% of ALL Britain shares Neolithic Blood. Be proud.

  • @masterfeatherpen

I wouldn't use the word "British" any more, as first off, it's the Roman name for England & Wales only,

Where as the Romans called Scotland "Caledonia" and Ireland's as "Hibernia".

Plus you'll only confuse the yanks and some English who believe that "Britain" is a race and nationality,

Genetic research has show that the Scots largely descend from the Picts (who are Pre-Celt), OGAP4 (Pictish genetic code) is found all over Scotland, even in the lowlands.

  • @segano1 I thought the land of Great Britain included England, N. Ireland, Wales and Scotland. And, the people inhabiting these lands were called the British people.

  • Great Britain is the geographical name of the island which Scotland is part of. The United Kingdom is a political union of those four countries. Northern Ireland is part of the U.K., but it is not part of the island of Great Britain.

Calling an English person British is accepted. People from other parts of the U.K. might or might not accept being called British, depending on the individual, particularly in N. Ireland where Catholics would be more likely to object.

  • @MagiMysteryTour Thanks for the explanation, very helpful. .

  • @MagiMysteryTour - Good explanation. ;-)

  • Just found this. Thanks for the upload, very informative.

    Saor Alba gu brath!

  • I advice all the Nationalistic Scots to not anymore argue about the ''true Scots''. They are made of mostly Gealic, Angles, Vikings and some Picts. Do not try to point out one of them to be the Real Scot.

and why all the negativity towards germanic tribes?

  • @DutchPetriot The true Scot sare those that are born and brought up in Scotland, The scotds today is an ethnicity, regarldess of where there ancestors came from. Don't fucking dare lecture us scots on how we perceive ourselves or others, it is none of your business you cock.

  • @JesusChristLiesToYou True scot? The highlanders or the lowlanders? Moron.

  • @DutchPetriot Either

  • Love his accent, makes it even better to watch this!

  • The hill of Tara

  • @FeilimW There is Tara mountain and river Tara in Serbia. Canyon of river Tara is greatest canyon in world after great canyon of river Colorado in US. Did U know that? Cheers!

  • Girrick would have done well within modern political standards. Destroy your rivals, make them look stupid, make plenty of money.

  • and where did the "stone of destiny" come from originally?

  • @fgwakelyyorkshire ov course

  • @fgwakely

  • does anyone know if there is a doc done to this quality about Ireland

    thanks

  • @dannyo07

no there is none. but that would be really interesting

  • @dannyo07 I think there's only been one about Scotland, but I'd be interested in one about Ireland.

  • @dannyo07 The Story of Ireland part 1/4 episode 1

  • @dannyo07 - I don't think there was enough 'written down'in Ireland to construct enough documented history, therefore a documentary would be conjecture and based mostly on archaeology and second hand information. I might be wrong though.

  • 01:36

    "This was a coo"!

  • Look up the phrase coup d'état

  • HAHAHHA

  • @baldsac hahahaha....I love the accent

  • @nehagatari me too!

  • @baldsac it's "coup" and yes it's pronounced "coo". As in "Coup d'Etat"

  • Alba emerges, the Stone of Destiny...and then

    Angle-land....beautiful scenery...thanks!

  • SAOR ALBA
