Hi Penn fans. Penn Says videos have been discontinued, so you won't be seeing any new content on here. You can check out our Profile on our Channel Page for more info. We'll still be checking in, so hope to keep chatting with you all! Thanks!
Tell me about it! I'm right there with ya Penn. Bush pissed me off and that was okay. Obama is pissing me off over the very same stuf (plus a few new things) and now I am a racist.
I am at the point now I have started saying "Hell yeah I'm a racist...what of it?" Truth is I'm not. But I am very prejudiced against assholes of EVERY stripe.
Of course dissent is patriotic. I think people should learn to question ALL authority and be skeptical of people in power. The state is inherently dangerous in my opinon and should not freely be given trrust.
Anyone who believes that dissent is unpatriotic needs to stop and think. Our entire government was established around a few ideas. One of which was that the people should control the government as opposed to the government controlling the people. To speak out against what you feel the government is doing wrong is the most American thing you can do. The constitution begins "We the people..." not "We the government..." because ours is a government of the people by the people for the people.
It's not unpatriotic to disagree. Keep preaching the words of less Government and less presidential power. Just remember the people saying STFU are the people who think the Government can fix all and provide to all. Sometimes you just have to do it yourself. It's a simple concept lost on so many. It's rather sad. Instead of trying to fix all these stupid problems with laws and regulation, why don't we get the laws we already have straight!
Penn, you're right. Obama has too much power. He's playing a game with our country to see how far he can go and how much he can get away with. This country was founded on dissent. We're here because of dissent. Dissent is absolutely patriotic. Keep posting your random thoughts. Love 'em!
i serve the United States I obey all orders given, it is my duty to love and be faithful to all orders so that my subordinates do the same. I do not question, unless asked and when i am asked i give the honest truth, "Sir, these people deserve to be free and live in freedom, as humans it is our duty to protect our kind, as long as it is not cause danger to the US". basically, i fight, thats my job, we voted for someone than thats the mofo we got.
I guess its a given. The commander in chief id your boss, and what the boss says goes.
But is it our duty to 'liberate' other countries? Y can't they do it themselves? Is our job policing the world? Just because you must obey, does that make the order right?
All these questions are possibly from a dissenter and patriotic. We all want whats best, for us and everyone. We have different means of achieving that, though.
it is our duty, as a super power it is our duty to protect the weak. I am a Christian and Jesus also said to protect the weak, the fact that there is a nation that does this would have never been conceivable in the past, a group of people so unselfish as to protect the weak. believe it or not Korea, Vietnam, Iraqi all of them could not defeat their suppressors alone. And also Iraqi had a shit load of yellow cake Uranium.
I disagree with you, but I'm not going to argue about it. This is not the place, and i'm sure your pretty solid on your views. It seems this is more of a religious thing for you, and no matter what I say, I can't touch you.
No i know its good and all. I've seen what you've done in the east, and the happiness. Experiencing democracy for the first time must seem to them like divine grace. I study the military and their operations as an interest.
But again, I fundamentally believe we shouldn't interfere. Not because I don't think we should help those in trouble, but a military force isn't always necessary. I believe we should lead through example, not through force, no matter the good intentions.
Penn Is right here. Anyone can be criticized. This is or at least is supposed to be a free country. Also because nobody is perfect no one should be followed with out question. If you really love the U.S.A you will always defend the right to question and criticize. He called Obama popular but he's not so popular anymore.
wow...No. By saying we don't want a lot of Government is like saying we want to live our lives free of the presence of some other entity getting involved. As for point 2, you are wrong. Way wrong. State governments make laws too, not just federal. Infact, the federal needs to give up the laws the 10th amendment doesn't allow it to have (ie Drug laws)
I generally agree with Penn. But this is just dumb.
Obama and bush are two COMPLETELY different animals.
EVERYONE WANTS TO GO ON THE CONSTITUTION. But the fact is this is a 300 fuckin year old document written by men who thought that the world was 4000 years old. GET A GRIP.
Yeah yeah yeah its a good piece of paper that has good points to it. But so is my paycheck.
And why all the sudden does everyone hate big government?
to your last point, because the american people are sheep, brought up from a worthless educational system, but don't take it from me (a german), listen to what other countries have to say about current american educational ideals.
Gruess aus Deutschland.
oh, and don't bother making a third reich joke, that is pretty much worn territory.
The Constitution is a 222 year old document that many people still feel is relevant because it embodies principals that are timeless. The men who wrote the Constitution may have only thought the world was 4000 yrs old, but I don't know that for sure. Regardless, being wrong on one subject doesn't automatically mean they are wrong about everything. It is also a fact that it is still the supreme law of the land. What other laws do you suggest we begin ignoring? Or, can we all just pick our own?
they really didn't believe in christianity. the forefathers were actually more deist, and only "christian" to appeal to the public. thomas jefferson even rewrote the bible and took out all the worship stuff. putting jesus as more of a philosopher really.
The underlying reason that does not get discussed is that we are a divided country bound by borders but not necessarily beliefs.
Once we can collectively admit that we really only value our own individual belief systems than we may have a chance at an honest dialogue as opposed to the rhetoric and posturing we are constantly fed now.
Those who spoke out against Bush in the early days of his 'election' were ridiculed and dismissed by the right.
Those who spoke out against the invasion of Iraq in the early months/years were also pulverized by the media as well as Bush followers.
There will always be fanatical followers on both sides of the political spectrum. The majority will always dismiss the minority and the minority will always cry about it-right, left...whatever.
I'm just curious why there is viewer discretion advised on Penn's videos. As far as I've noticed there's nothing here any more risqué than countless other videos on youtube unless it's the atheist in him that "offends" people. That's where my dissent comes in. How come we can say almost anything on camera but when religion comes in to play it's "Hush...Hush...You mustn't say those things"? Just a thought.
It's only patriotic to register your dessent if you are a "lefty" in this post '60's world we live in. If you dissent from the other side you are a racist or a terrorist or a redneck or a right winged extremist, eh?Only Marxist/commie dissent is regarded as valid and "intellectual". The pinkies have the podium again. The beauty of this current commie racist bunch in the WH is that they are waking the sleeping giant of real valuable American dissent.Give 'em more rope. Give 'em more room......
Even if we may not agree on issues, I have the utmost respect for you because you are thoughtful in what you believe and your views give me a new perspective to think about as far as my own beliefs.
You mostly will not read this but descent is vital. Otherwise why are we the land of the free? If everybody is forced to agree then we do not possess any freedom.
the most patriotic people in this world now are also against the agenda of the american leaders believe it or not, the basis on the idea of america and freedom has been long abandoned and i think its time we brought back 1776. thats just my opinion though.
I don't know who sends out the talking points you dimwads parrot, but one of the funnier ones I've seen all over the internet is people calling Beck and Hannity racists. Really, because even though I don't watch either of them, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that if John Edwards were president and he did the same thing that both of them would still object. Just as loud. Just as often. I don't think they like liberals, regardless of skin color.
Are you saying you want Obama to FAIL? Getting awful close to blasphemy, there. You may incur the wrath of people who called for deposal of Bush on a daily basis.
"OF COURSE your dissent is still patriotic, Penn, it's REAL dissent, wheras, all this HATE from Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity is nothing more than RACIST TREASON."
"In other words, dissent is no longer patriotic."
Here is the difference. I voted for obama, but I hate the way he is conducting signing statements, and warrantless wiretapping. I hate that he is bending over to lobbyists and that he is giving money to banks without any proper oversight.
This sort of dissent is based on fact. Beck is claiming Obama is a nazi and will conduct eugenics. There is no evidence of this. These are unpatriotic lies.

Incredible how some of the posters still managed to miss the point you were making: Well, OF COURSE your dissent is still patriotic, Penn, it's REAL dissent, wheras, all this HATE from Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity is nothing more than RACIST TREASON. It reminds me of something that was said during the Clinton Administration: "We're not just a bunch of the president's yes men, because when the president says 'no', we all say 'no', too!"
No, it's different. See, Obama is a good person, has politically correct views, and an enlightened soul. That's why we can trust him with absolute power.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
A more disturbing level? We went to war for 7 years with a country that we lied about their weapons. Hundreds of thousands of people DIED OVER THIS. You think Obama is pushing things to a more disturbing level?
I swear most of you mother fuckers were sleeping under a rock until we got a black president.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Dissent is still patriotic, Penn. You're disagreements are spoken respectfully and intelligently. Stuff like the filth spewed from people like Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity is propaganda though.
I'm always happy to see rational people like yourself engage on the strength of the issues rather than resort to tacky and tasteless insults. Keep it up!
You really think that every liberal ever has never been wrong, but every conservative ever is always wrong?
If that's what gets you through the day. (Although I'm sure the handle "progrocker69" helps too... what are you, 12? "69.... tee hee... it's funny because it's a sexual position... get it?")
Post a link to a video which has been thoroughly and factually debunked, or shut the fuck up.
Until then, you have nothing but rhetoric on your side.
P.S. -- I was BORN in 1969 and unlike yourself was NOT thinking of sexual positions when I came up with this identity nearly a decade ago. Now, where are those links, kiddie?
Now it's just the government that gets away with everything. The Federal Reserve Also. Support H.R. 1207. Support the Federal Reserve Sunshine act. The system is digging itself into a hole that the people cannot afford (Literally, just taxwise) and the rights of the individual are being raped. Read the wiki on Executive Order 6102. Start there, and see where this country has been going. The people in government own the media and they have their own agendas in mind. You Shut the fuck up.
I find that now that we have a democratic president the people who were against Bush are now spouting the same kind of crap that the people for Bush did. And vice versa. I think in general we aren't quite as polarized as we were when Bush was in power, but there's alot of hyporicy in people who are majorly into poltics..
I noticed how many of my liberal co-workers don't have their "dissent is the highest form of patriotism" bumper stickers any more. Some have even gone so far as to replace them with the kind of things right-wingers had on their cars for 8 years.
amazing to think that people can be SO INCREDIBLY STUPID as to actually commit double think, especially when it has been defined in 1984 which is basically the nwo handbook--of course there are many others!
only a libertarian would believe that. A liberal would say that liberals have all the good ideas and a conservative would say that they have all the good ideas...
The reason nobody trusts a free market is because we have never seen a real one for years.
In a real Free Market, people go out of business and they DON'T get help. Things crash and burn, people get over it.
If there is a need, somebody finds a way to fill it. Instead of artificially keeping jobs in place (where the government has no clue what to do, where to put jobs, or who to spew money at) is just ruining the system.
The current setup ISN'T working, and a Free Market is what we need
I completely agree we need to return to lazzie-faire capitalism. These restrictions and regulations are going to kill us in the end (metaphorically and physically)
Homeland Janet says you could be a terrorist if you grow a garden,or carry a pocket US constitution ,a Veteran, Ron Paul bumper sticker ,a Christian, or think Bail out of Banks is dumb.Obama acorn census has GPS everyone's front door in USA by August of this year but Census paper will not come until next year, all Health records will be put on Govt. Computers for Economic stimulus package, how that helps economy I have no Idea,You could be a terrorist? on the no fly list? crazy control freaks
i honestly think that our government should NEVER be just given "the benefit of the doubt", complacency is always the first step towards tyranny. as soon as we stop asking questions, you can expect the government to get out of hand, as it already is and has been for a long time, at least in my opinion. we all love to blame the politicians, when really all we have to blame is ourselves for following blindly.
In a way, that was a good thing about the Bush administration.
Think about it for a second. Almost NOBODY trusted the government. Nobody gave them the benefit of the doubt. Nobody even thought the government was working on their behalf.
Which is worse; an enemy that is obviously your enemy, or a friend that's really your enemy?
An excellent question, posed in a very thought-provoking manner. I personally believe that dissent is still patriotic but I'm sure many people who disagree with me ideologically about Obama and Socialism would say that dissention should be reserved for us "ignorant", "gun-clinging", "religious" nutjobs. And Democrats deny being elitist...
I just find it ironic that the people screaming about others questioning their patriotism for the past 8 years are out and about labeling people who disagree with them extremist or racist. It's just an easy way for them to deflect any legitimate criticism of this administration.
I have lots of fun watching your BS shows and it's good to see some of your ideas elaborated on in a more personal way on here.
I joined the army because I love my country. Didn't see a bonus or anything like that, I joined while Clinton was still in office. I give my country the benefit of the doubt but believe I have a duty and a right to dissent with ideas and policies I disagree with, regardless of which party.
I swore to protect and defend the Constitution of the US, not agendas.
Who cares if dissent is patriotic or not. Fuck patriotism, period.
I am human, you are human. Why don't we all just love and take care of eachother? Muslic or jew, theist, atheist and anti-theist, american or british. Who cares about our exact ideas on things, we should take care of each other first and sort everything else out peacefully as we go.
Well if you would read or Bill of Right and Constituion then read the definiton of a patriot you would realize that you have completely contradicted yourself.
"A few 'my country right or wronf type people would say that's unpatriotic' to disagree."
I don't believe in my country right or wrong, but I do think people should give their country the benefit of the doubt.
Read Harsanyi's column when it came out and it was terrific. I'm bipartisan: I think both Bush and Obama are jackhats who were/are destroying this country.
Keep up your criticisms; they are the most important part of improvement! We have to know what's wrong if we want to fix it. I may disagree with you on many points, but the president, whether it be Bush or Obama, is still a politician and must be watched closely at all times. This is also crucial to how a democracy functions - we must hear all the sides; consider all the viewpoints, then work to make the best decisions. No voice may be silenced if this is to work.

Libertarianism is such a fantasy. Our society is very complex and requires decisions to be made that aftect millions of people. If the president or government doesn't have the power they have, some other entity ...namely a corporate will have that power.
Those entities aren't bound by a social contract to enforce your rights or have an interest in your general well-fare. Government sucks, but its a million times better than corporations.
And you think the politicians have an interest in our well being or abide by a social contract? America was set up with 3 governing bodies so 1 does not take over. And if a corporation is getting too big that they 'Cannot Fail' then guess what they are monopolizing the system and need to be busted up. Libertarianism is not a fantasy it what all government is founded on and they all eventually pull away from. That is why big empires always fail from within.
Penn, ur just stuck between a rock and a hard place, being a libertarian. You won't be happy with most presidents because they're usually neo-conservative or liberal for the most part and won't suite you.
But the answer to the question is no. You're not any less patriotic for speaking ur point of view.
I think ya woulda been ok with McCain because he's moderate conservative, but not a neo-con. But he woulda had to do some type of bail out simply because he would have to. WCYD?.....
The differences between the policies of the Green, Socialist, Communist and Libertarian Parties are insignificant compared to the difference of them to the corporate-controlled Republicrat-Demopub party. I, a Green Party member, have tried to put into office at every level as many Greens & libertarians as possible. National hero Ralph Nader should have been president since 2000.
Hear, hear. I voted for Obama, but he's a Libertarian's nightmare, and I can't blame you (Penn) for disliking the concentration of executive power which Bush certainly helped to galvanize. I am very skeptical, even after voting for him! Lesser of two evils, but still (if you'll grant me license to use the misnomer) evil .
Democracy is NOT freedom. Only benefits to the majority. The founding fathers very clearly designed the constitution to cripple the government. Cripple power and authority. " There is no substitution for Liberty "
I like how they turn a question into an opinion without growing some balls.
"Is Dissent Still Patriotic?"
Cynic is a horrible word - why not - Inquisitive Patriot - or, Honorable Skeptic - Why do questions make them cry? How does a change of perspective upset democracy? If we all just sat around agreeing with everyone - we would have still been part of the United Kingdom - but perhaps, that would have been a better outcome after all.
The only thing i dont love about this is that he talks about one topic and that topic is revealed in the titel, so usually you know what he is going to say before it is said :)
dissent is so need today for the sake of what the founders intended. A Republican form of government were government is microscopic, and needed only to organize us for defense from enemies. Obama is a non-American. Doing non-American things. God help him.
Penn, I love you and your sexy, critical-thinking brain.
I grew up as a kid in the '60s-'70s in San Francisco, constantly hearing "Question the man." And I do - no matter what party he or she belongs to.
I wish people wouldn't shut off their brains just because the guy they like is now president. And I find it scary that people have attacked you for having your opinions about Obama. I mean, none of his "fans" question policies like the Orwellian Free Choice Act, amongst others?
If you missed it, we now have lefty lib-tards accusing Limbaugh et al of "sedition" because they said they want Dear Leader to fail in his attempt to remake our great Republic to fit his socialist ideals.
Well you DO NOT KNOW what Socialism is and yet you USE THE WORD. Should I call you ignorant? I want you to get an education so you may be of some use to this country.
Yes, dissent is still patriotic. However, it is somewhat disheartening to see so much dissent so quickly. People are arguing points that aren't even relevant yet just to argue. The truth is there are millions of people who need help from the country they've been helping all their lives. They don't care what method it is, so long as it works. People argue along political lines so much that they don't care if the country moves forward, only if it moves forward by their means.
"People argue along political lines so much that they don't care if the country moves forward, only if it moves forward by their means."
This is the primary problem as I see it as well. It's beyond ego and in the realm of narcissism - the way I see things and think has to be correct, and I'm certain it's correct, and nobody else could be more right than I am.
I remember people on the left always saying "dissent is patriotic".
I think the right should adopt that slogan, and we'll see if the left still believe it, or if left wing standards change based on the identity of the man in the oval office.
As for Bush fans saying "my country right or wrong". I think he's taking it too far. Conservatives criticized Bush. And conservatives were okay with the left criticism They just thought that the whole 9/11 truth and the Hitler comparisons are out there.
I agree with you wholeheartedly on most accounts. I don't think we can compare dissent against Bush with current dissent against Obama. The media and the political machine along with American lemmings got personal with Bush and discredited the office itself. Bottom line, it was personal and hurt America. Current dissent against Obama is actually dissent towards his policies. Secondly, you have to have a balance of power. Limiting exec power must be balanced with ltd judicial/legislative.
"Current dissent against Obama is actually dissent towards his policies."
Are you serious? All this talk about "Messiah" and how he should fail is against his policies? All this talk about socialism is his policies? No, look up what socialism is. There are parties in the United States that are for it, and you will quickly learn that it is not Obama by a long shot. Obama is a capitalist through and through.
No, these attacks are just as personal if not more so.
Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating public or state ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and a society characterized by equality for all individuals, with a fair or egalitarian method of compensation.... Tell me did he not say that in his entire campaign? Taking from the rich and giving to the poor who did not work for it.
I think Dissention is not only patriotic it the responsibility of every free american. The problem is two fold:
!. We put too much faith in politians to solve problems. A) they don't know how to solve problems B) that 's not thier prime function. It to stay in office.
2. We do not live in a totally free nationa. This is a nationa of laws generated by very powerful people. the only time the people make change is when they disobay the laws of the land. Check your history before you respond.
I have heard it said that you cannot claim to believe in freedom unless you can listen to man say things that make your blood boil and fight to the death his right to say it. I agree with you and would put myself in same political spectrum, although less government. :)
BTW I put my money where my mouth is, 5 yrs active duty USMC, current National Guardsman.
On a seperate note, when is BS going to be on the internet? I can't afford Showtime. Peace and happiness to you and yours.
Excercising your Constitutional rights is NEVER unpatriotic! The people telling you to "shut the fuck up" for expressing your opininions are the unpatriotic ones!
The difference is obviously that people belive that government is good.
And until someone does abuse his power like Bush did it is wrong to be critical of him as he's done only good things yet...even from a Libertarian perspective such as closing Guantanamo Bay.
We are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion: the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission; which is the stage of the darkest periods of human history, the stage of rule by brute force.
And the proof of that is ? Penn just got told to shut up by a bunch of moronic Obama supporters, it's not like the FBI knocked on his door like they did to that old guy on "Fahrenheit 9/11" for criticizing Bush.
Penn, thank you for this video. Whereas my conservatism diverges from your libertarianism, I would sincerely hope that we do not fall prey to the idea that holding power does not make dissenters unpatriotic. I would suggest that working against the ideals and respective interests of the United States goes well beyond saying "I disagree" but rather action. I am eagerly looking forward to the coming years where I am called "unpatriotic" by hardened leftists, but that's another story.
Oh, come on, Penn, the "dissent is unpatriotic" crap has been coming from the American right-wing for years. The phrase "support the troops" was nothing but a nicer way of saying "shut the fuck up" to the anti-war crowd.
I have a question to put to you. You are a libertarian. So what do you think is more important: civil liberties or laissez-faire economics?
The whole concept that if you're not left, you're right is BS. I'm not going to choose between my rights. Economic freedom IS personal freedom. The right to freely associate shouldn't be regulated by intention. The idea that I'm subject to government because my purpose is money and not fun, is ridiculous.
The idea that because the right said it, then that makes it ok for the left to say it is ridiculous too.
very true. i have a predominantly leftist streak and i am very disturbed by the cult that surrounds obama and the democratic party in general. it's that caviar liberal culture that doesn't stand for anything genuine. they're not truely emancipatory towards the gov't they just want their own monopoly in power.
Your beef with this is justified. I think it's reflective of the mindet a 2-party system spawns. It forces advocates on both sides to develop a certain cognitive dissonance, which is at the root of what you're scratching your head over. Call it an 'Either/Or' mentality. Many Bush haters never got beyond the emotive level. So it's no surprise that when Obama maintains many of the same ideas that ostensibly created the hatred for Bush, Obama supporters don't see the contradiction you lay out.
You need a life! Your to political and to invovled in thoughts you don't even do . Your an awsome guy with better than average intelligence. Stop reading stop the deep thoughts.Just live . These people and the thoughts are exactly like your other show BULLSHIT. Lighten up. You want a faith or religion worthy of worshiping. Believe God has everything undercontrol. Politicians come and go, your here until death. So live. Be more positve. Life is NOT a game. So don't play with it live it. :)
Religion is IMHO an overused excuse to think very little.
Oh yes its all Gods design so lets not think about it. Oh yes Cancer is all Gods design so lets not research a cure.
God has everything under control? Your mind first and foremost. You can lay your head down for the executioner willingly if you wish. I will fight til my last breath. You can accept the fate handed you and yours by religions and politicians, I will resist these shackles as poison for my soul.
Unless you have Cancer Shut the fuck up! Hey asshole you will fight what and Why? I think you mean you will Bitch moan and fucken complain until your last miserable fucken breath. Your too fucken stupid to have a soul. Shackles? Seek help! Loser!!!
Then why didn't we dissent already? There's obviously a lot of intelligent people out there so what the fuck is going on? I don't want to go on a rant about how people should just stop being timid mindless sheep but thats the majority of this country. Everyone is so scared of losing their lives or homes etc. Do you not realize just how self-sufficient we can be? Instead of constantly asking for handouts try showing the government you don't need them.
I don't know about you... but I believe America is a country where dissent is the ultimate form of Patriotism! Where would we be if Adams, Franklin, Monroe, Henry, Jefferson weren't angry, dissenting folks? They believed it was our DUTY to keep the gov't in check and wrote that very specifically into our founding documents. Pacifism, mindless tolerance and acceptance of gov't actions are un-patriotic.
Limbaugh is doing handsprings of joy now, because he can he a dissenter for the first time since Clinton left office. It's great for his radio ratings
Dissent is ABSOLUTELY patriotic. Dissent is what brought about our country and the Constitution. The radical nutjobs are blind sheep that will accept you ONLY if you do as they say, right or wrong. Stand up for what you believe in. That makes you a true American
Speaking as the daughter of a WWII vet (my father volunteered for service after Pearl Harbor), I think that dissent is one of the highest forms of patriotism. Dissenters love their country enough to want to change it for the better (hopefully). Seems to me that if dissenters were unpatriotic, 'twould be far easier to move to another country than to effect real change in their own.
It's hypocrisy that penn runs around implying that certain people are stupid for believing in certain things, yet he "boo-hoos" when he gets a little taste of the insults that happen when you walk out of liberalism's lockstep.
I am glad to see that you, with a bigger soap box, are in agreement with me. Less government, no war, MORE cookies. As far as Obama being popular is concerned... don't worry... the lemmings will be turned in short order and you will be proclaimed a prophet. But I will proclaim you are a PRoFIT. Me don't want to weigh you down with any religious connotations.
I agree with you, Penn. With nationalism, patriotism, and political fevers running high for Obama, charges of sedition could be waiting right around the corner for people who share those "cynical" beliefs. ;-) Where's McCarthyism when you need it? (just kidding) Keep cranking out the great videos!

To coin a phrase, "It's bullshit!"

STFU Penn! Ha, nah just kidding. Dissent is an effective defense mechanism.

Penn, you're right. Obama has too much power. He's playing a game with our country to see how far he can go and how much he can get away with. This country was founded on dissent. We're here because of dissent. Dissent is absolutely patriotic. Keep posting your random thoughts. Love 'em!

Dissent; questioning the government, and staying in the know is the highest form of patriotism I could think of.

the highest form is serving in the military for your country.... just saying, all the other stuff is patriotic also
achmedthedeadterror5 2 years ago

Not saying anything against the military
ThatGuy623 2 years ago
i serve the United States I obey all orders given, it is my duty to love and be faithful to all orders so that my subordinates do the same. I do not question, unless asked and when i am asked i give the honest truth, "Sir, these people deserve to be free and live in freedom, as humans it is our duty to protect our kind, as long as it is not cause danger to the US". basically, i fight, thats my job, we voted for someone than thats the mofo we got.
achmedthedeadterror5 2 years ago
I guess its a given. The commander in chief id your boss, and what the boss says goes.
But is it our duty to 'liberate' other countries? Y can't they do it themselves? Is our job policing the world? Just because you must obey, does that make the order right?
All these questions are possibly from a dissenter and patriotic. We all want whats best, for us and everyone. We have different means of achieving that, though.
ThatGuy623 2 years ago
it is our duty, as a super power it is our duty to protect the weak. I am a Christian and Jesus also said to protect the weak, the fact that there is a nation that does this would have never been conceivable in the past, a group of people so unselfish as to protect the weak. believe it or not Korea, Vietnam, Iraqi all of them could not defeat their suppressors alone. And also Iraqi had a shit load of yellow cake Uranium.
achmedthedeadterror5 2 years ago
I disagree with you, but I'm not going to argue about it. This is not the place, and i'm sure your pretty solid on your views. It seems this is more of a religious thing for you, and no matter what I say, I can't touch you.

achmedthedeadterror5 2 years ago
No i know its good and all. I've seen what you've done in the east, and the happiness. Experiencing democracy for the first time must seem to them like divine grace. I study the military and their operations as an interest.
But again, I fundamentally believe we shouldn't interfere. Not because I don't think we should help those in trouble, but a military force isn't always necessary. I believe we should lead through example, not through force, no matter the good intentions.

Penn Is right here. Anyone can be criticized. This is or at least is supposed to be a free country. Also because nobody is perfect no one should be followed with out question.

The underlying reason that does not get discussed is that we are a divided country bound by borders but not necessarily beliefs.
Once we can collectively admit that we really only value our own individual belief systems than we may have a chance at an honest dialogue as opposed to the rhetoric and posturing we are constantly fed now.

Great post but a bit of amnesia here!

Caturdayz 2 years ago
The reason nobody trusts a free market is because we have never seen a real one for years.
In a real Free Market, people go out of business and they DON'T get help. Things crash and burn, people get over it.
If there is a need, somebody finds a way to fill it. Instead of artificially keeping jobs in place (where the government has no clue what to do, where to put jobs, or who to spew money at) is just ruining the system.
The current setup ISN'T working, and a Free Market is what we need

Government sucks, but its a million times better than corporations.
automatt12 2 years ago
And you think the politicians have an interest in our well being or abide by a social contract? America was set up with 3 governing bodies so 1 does not take over. And if a corporation is getting too big that they 'Cannot Fail' then guess what they are monopolizing the system and need to be busted up. Libertarianism is not a fantasy it what all government is founded on and they all eventually pull away from. That is why big empires always fail from within.

I think he was talking about people who were not a fan of Bush saying things like "my country right or wrong".

WillWork4Food89 2 years ago

The people telling you to "shut the fuck up" for expressing your opininions are the unpatriotic ones!
faeriemama2007 2 years ago 6
The difference is obviously that people belive that government is good.
And until someone does abuse his power like Bush did it is wrong to be critical of him as he's done only good things yet...even from a Libertarian perspective such as closing Guantanamo Bay.
But sure, dissent is patriotic.
omfg4000 2 years ago

GOPsithlord 2 years ago
Oh, come on, Penn, the "dissent is unpatriotic" crap has been coming from the American right-wing for years. The phrase "support the troops" was nothing but a nicer way of saying "shut the fuck up" to the anti-war crowd.
I have a question to put to you. You are a libertarian. So what do you think is more important: civil liberties or laissez-faire economics?
LorienTheYounger 2 years ago
Why should he have to choose?
The whole concept that if you're not left, you're right is BS. I'm not going to choose between my rights. Economic freedom IS personal freedom. The right to freely associate shouldn't be regulated by intention. The idea that I'm subject to government because my purpose is money and not fun, is ridiculous.
The idea that because the right said it, then that makes it ok for the left to say it is ridiculous too.

very true. i have a predominantly leftist streak and i am very disturbed by the cult that surrounds obama and the democratic party in general. it's that caviar liberal culture that doesn't stand for anything genuine. they're not truely emancipatory towards the gov't they just want their own monopoly in power.
fede2 2 years ago
