  • I have had 7 Rolls Royces so far, and they might be overpriced but very reliable. Anyone who thinks its a piece of junk must be stupid. Great engine, gearbox and brakes, but you need to look out for rust. The last 3 cost me 2900-3800 british pounds and they all start on the button and are very reliable. At that price its a bargain, and such bargains can be found. Love my Shadows and Silver Spirit -I recommend them to anyone, and the ride is absolutely fantastic.

  • I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree

  • What people don't know is that RR stopped building cars, directly, after 1971. The motorcar division was hived-off and left to stand on its own feet so that RR could get on with its core business, which was and is, to make gas turbines. And they are now doing rather well - thank you. Let the Germans get on and make cars - that's there thing. And modern day RR? Power systems for the world - that's their thing.

  • Extremes of engineering to achieve subtle quality @ great expense. Sophisticated power & control with superb finish.

Erm, if you want a bit of a surprise though (& you're mechanically minded) take a door panel off a shadow ! & have a look at the construction there. Bit embarassin'.

I love both my Shadows to bits though & they will be with me till I also fade away.

  • What about the construction is substandard? I knew the quality of the steel was not great, but what else?

And what happens when a RR is in a collision? How do the occupants fare? I can find absolutely no information on Rolls Royce safety. The early, pre-WWII cars were built like tanks. Are later ones less structurally sound?

  • I don't remember being too alarmed when I took the panel off of mine, except for what the idiot who refinished the woodwork did with the rain guards.

  • The "proper" Rolls Royce and Bentley cars are gone, now...........these still proudly fly the flag for the Marques...........

  • I agree.

  • My favourite RR ever!

  • Whats wrong with it being British...along with Jaguar (one of the best cars ever especially the E-Type) they are one of the few that can stand up against the Germans

  • they can stand against the germans because they are german cars.wake from your sleep

  • when this was built they were owned by the british and Jaguar is now Indian owned

  • In all it's so-called-beauty it has one major flaw...it's British. By default, it's an overpriced piece of junk that will do nothing but break down and strand you.

  • It is obvious that you do not know the brand. I own a Silver Spirit since 1997 and the only problem it gave me is a leak in the steering wheel

  • The only VW Bentleys are the Continental Flying Spur & Continental GT/GTC. Both models were derived from the VW Phaeton (which has since been discontinued)& for two years the Continental Flying Spur & VW Phaeton were built together in Dresden, Germany. The W12 Phaeton & Flying Spur shared similarities, but were not identical. The original "Crewe" Bentleys are the Arnage, Azure, & Brooklands models.

  • Very nice video - well done.

What is the title of the song you have used? It goes well. As does the car!

  • Nice video.

    What is the song please?

  • The artist is "Véronique Sanson" and the song title is "Pour me comprendre"

  • I absolutely love silver shadows! I love their 70's style, and how for years afterwards when rolls royce started producing silver spirits, they kept that sort of styling when they were making the corniche. If you keep your eyes peeled on ebay, then once in a while you can find absolutely fantastic silver shadows I and II with very low mileage for about £5000. I can't wait until I own one.

  • Glorious, wafting, ultimate sleekness. I have a 1990 Bentley Eight. I simply couldn't find a Shadow that was in good enough condition - they all have partners (a bit like women of their era!). My Bentley is spotless and the ONLY modern Bentley I would consider is an Ararge. The rest are VW's in disguise.

The W12 Phaeton & Flying Spur shared similarities, but were not identical. The Arnage, Azure, & Brooklands continue as the orginal "Crewe" Bentleys.

  • As much as I am a loyal Rolls-Royce owner (2 of them), after careful consideration, I would have to say that they can easily be defined as the second best cars in the world.

  • What would be the first best?

  • I have an 1981 Silver Spirit. Cost me very little per year to maintain and honestly for 30 or 40 thousands whatever it is in US Dollars, British Pound or Euros will give you an immaculate, trouble free car.

  • as time goes by, the silver shadow becomes more and more THE true classical rolls-royce! perhaps the best combination between tradition and modern times! unfaultlessly stylish! as it is my silver shadow II from 1980! thank you, rolls-royce motor cars, for this wonderful car, wonderfully showed in this little video!

  • Would you happen to have any fast advice for me. I would love to own a Rolls Royce. I don't want to spend more than 30 or 40 thousand. I understand the 81 to 87 Spurs up to 20,000 series have had problems with oil pumps and are to be avoided. Approximately, what does it cost to maintain per year? Thank-you.

  • I think pretty much all Rolls-Royces have common faults, as does every car.

Maintennence costs won't be cheap, but they are built well so they shouldn't have too much wrong if properly cared for. Then again, whatever the costs to maintain, it'll always be a bargain for a Rolls.

  • I own a 1997 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur, and in answer to your enquiry, yes, the 80's Rolls Royces, up until 1988 are well known for mechanical issues. In 1989, Rolls-Royce Spurs switched over to 'motronic' engines, which did bring Rolls-Royces back the to status of being the 'Best Car in the World' I also own a 1990 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur and am quite pleased in 2007! I refuse to let go of the car. About the Seraphs? Stay as far away as possible.
