I got this for Christmas (2011). It was on ebay for months at $135 but once the price dropped to $98, it was mine! And it's fucking awesome. It joined my Black Monarch's Castle and Black Falcon's Fortress in my lego collection along with many other old sets!

@Bvajen I agree with that too because the sets now a days are more focused on the actual play aspect more than the building aspect which Lego is all about. I think that the new sets are pretty cool, but can never surpass the originals.

@Bvajen That is what I've been trying to tell people I know. The new sets are pretty limited as to what you can custom build. The backs of boxes from the eighties always had ideas for alternate models. I can't see what anyone could build with the new sets, and all those specialized pieces. It's best to just buy parts from some website, and make your own castle if you want, and you can afford it money-wise and the time to hunt it all down.

thats why you buy a modern set like trolls fortress or space police then buy a couple of tubs of the stardard red white blue and yellow bricks ..so you have more then enough to go nuts with...so you have cool unique pieces and standards :)

Man.. seeing these old commercials is making me all nostalgic lol. I wish I had more of this type of castle sets back when I was growing up. I didnt pick up on legos till I was about 7 or so when Black Knights and Wolfpack came out (early 90's).

Heck all the older legos are better than the new stuff lol. Aquanauts, Pirates, M:Tron, Blacktron, Ice Planet those were the days :)

I'm a girl and it always made me so mad as a child that these toys were geared toward boys & not girls, especially the advanced sets. I played with Legos a lot as a kid but actually lost interest in them over time because the most complex ones were too masculine for my taste. I didn't want pink girly stuff, I just wanted something gender neutral and it was pretty discouraging. Times have changed, but not a whole lot. Girls should be encouraged more to play with these types of toys.

I think nowadays it's gone even further... either u get something very girlyish, or something very boyish... I realy don't like the lego sets they make these days... They are so, so... UGLY!! Lego just isn't what it used to be...
