hinamizawa syndrome is caused by a local parasite that thrives in the area. keiichi, being new to the area, suffers because he has not built up a natural resistance. the syndrome causes normal distrust to amplify into delusions and psychosis. thus it isn't rena's fault, nor keiichi's, but at the same time both of their faults. such is the tragedy of onikakushi-hen.

*sob* It says on the Higurashi Wiki that this song is about Rena's failure to protect Keiichi from the unknown (Hinamizawa Syndrome) and doesn't want him to cry, and it explains that after Keiichi beats them to death (I think) they say that it was Rena's failure that he had done that, she hadn't protected him, hence Rena reaching out before she is beat to death near the end.
@ILUVBMNC1 Well it can be a bit of a mindfuck sometimes but the further you watch the more you will understand. This anime has lots of blood and gore but it´s not all about killing each other(which is kinda obvious), it´s kinda hard to explain what´s it mainly about but it´s an anime I would recommend

i dont hate any characters in this anime. I even like the Villains mainly Takano. What IS higurashi no naku koro ni? I heard that the anime has killings.... bloody killings, so I didn't want to watch it....but I REALLY want to know what anime this is.
@PokemonManaphy789 It's a mystery/psychological-drama/horror anime, with very lovable characters and a well-written plot. It gets very violent and creepy, though, and makes no sense at first, but things are slowly pieced together...and it's amazing once things start to make sense.
@PokemonManaphy789 Honestly, if you could handle watching that video, you can handle Higurashi. That video was the first story arc. Watch five random videos from it; and I guarantee you will see all the violence. Sadly, that seems to be what most videos focus on.
The show is in story arc format. The violence usually only occurs in the last episode of the arc. It is greatly outweighed by comedy and plot development.

@JiggaTofu It's hard to really say since there are multiple arcs but the underline thing is that the villiagers are infected as a means of control and from time to time in the arcs signs of the illness emerge and cause people to become paranoid/self harming/psycopathic. @SailorUnicornMoon he's not hallucinating (not in the manga anyway). They use the syringe on him, which drives him insane so he kills them and then claws out his own throat :)
@XDall0time0lowXD It couldn't have been the syringe, it's the Hinamizawa Syndrome which has five stages, Keiichi eventually fell into level 4 and started acting all crazy, violent and paranoid, so it was all a hallucination. After killing them he fell into level 5 and starting clawing his own throat.

Question arcs. and Answer arcs. thats why they keep comming back when you see them get killed cuz, spoiler, Rika swaps between worlds each time she dies, and there is four worlds, she visit. its only in Kai she discovers who keeps killing her. hope you understand so you get the point of the story

@masaru109 no.he's hallucinating that they will kill him with some kinda drug because of hinamizawa syndrome.as you see in that scene how it really was 4:42

@SailorUnicornMoon he's not hallucinating (not in the manga anyway). They use the syringe on him, which drives him insane so he kills them and then claws out his own throat :)

@XDall0time0lowXD It couldn't have been the syringe, it's the Hinamizawa Syndrome which has five stages, Keiichi eventually fell into level 4 and started acting all crazy, violent and paranoid, so it was all a hallucination. After killing them he fell into level 5 and starting clawing his own throat.

@lilylotus13 Its easy, the higurashi stories is devided into seven diffrent arcs. Question arcs. and Answer arcs. thats why they keep comming back when you see them get killed cuz, spoiler, Rika swaps between worlds each time she dies, and there is four worlds, she visit. its only in Kai she discovers who keeps killing her. hope you understand so you get the point of the story

@Votiguy lol its a type of cicada the cidada's name is Tanna japonensis but it is also called higurashi. i read it on wikipedia, jus type "Tanna japonensis" and read the first sentence
