@DWTerminator I have and I hate them. This isn't a bad game but the game critics like IGN said" Oh it's amazing, it's the best fps out there!" This game had a stupid Micheal Bay ish storyline. That hit detection sucked. The spawn system was awful. Some weapons were pretty unbalanced like snipers, m16s, and grenade launchers. I would give this game 3 stars out of 5. I have played worse games, but they didn't have quite as much hype as this one.
When this game came out it actually didn't have all that much hype around it. It wasn't until MW2 that they really kicked the hype machine into overdrive.
As for the gameplay elements... Hit detection was fine. Dunno where you got the idea it sucked. Game had balancing issues, sure, but it's pretty easy to circumvent those for the most part. Spawns have never been particularly good in this series so I just expected it. Did you really expect "masterpiece" writing in an FPS?
@DWTerminator This game had tons of hype when it came out. The commercials said stuff like "the best action game of all time." If you look on the back of the box it even says "One of the absolute best games to grace any platform to date."
Yes the hit detection did suck sometimes in multiplayer. Sometimes if you shoot someone in the head they might not die and sometimes you shoot at a guy and the bullet just seems to go through him even though my ping was perfect.
@DWTerminator You must have been playing the hardcore modes if you didn't notice any hit detection problems. And about the crappy spawn system, Call of duty 3 had a much better spawn system than this game, but that could have been due to the maps being big. This is not a bad game don't get me wrong, but it does not deserve the title of "masterpiece". Also, It wasn't only me complaining about the hit detection problems some other people were too.
I never play non-HC unless I'm left with no choice. Even when I did play non-HC, the hit detection was fine. People tend to complain about such things whether there's an issue or not, just because their internet connections aren't particularly fast or they just don't have the requisite ability to do much of anything.
In case you didn't notice, I didn't give this a masterpiece-level score, by the way. You sure you're not just biased because of the CoD games released after this one?
@DWTerminator The series turned mediocre after WAW. MW2 sucked, BO was okay but not great, MW3 is the same as black ops not bad but not that good. I know you didn't give the game a masterpiece score but you gave it a higher score than I felt the game deserved. Again with the overrated part it's just almost everyone said this game was a masterpiece and didn't mention any flaws. The only Cod I would consider to be a masterpiece is the first.
I stand by the score and this one being the best CoD game since the first. It's a measure of how enjoyable the game was to me, after all. You're welcome to disagree. It's simply extremely rare that I come across someone mentioning the things you have against this one apart from the spawns (which were mostly problematic due to the increased player count, yet fairly small maps on PC).
@DWTerminator I'm not ignoring anything. They tend to be that way because wii games tend to be shovelware. If you take a genuinely decent game like Red Steel 2, both gunplay is much quicker and more precise (than with a gamepad) because of the motion controls. The Modern Warfare Reflex Edition has a bad framerate which can upset your aim, but the controls themselves are programmed and designed well. It's certainly not as good as the PC, Xbox, or PS3 versions, but it's not terrible either.
I'm talking about the Wii's sensor being fidgety, not the programming. Even Nintendo's own games have issues with the sensor causing the controls to be unresponsive.
Still, multi-platform games that get to Wii are generally sub-par regardless. Makes me wonder why anyone would bother getting something like CoD on Wii, when there are 3 far superior versions of it on other systems.
@DWTerminator I've never experienced any weirdness/spazzing cursors and I play the wii quite a bit. Every so often a movement won't be registered, but the same occurs with keyboard/mouse presses (albeit less frequently).
Multi-platforms do generally ignore or are terrible on the Wii. People probably buy it because they only have a wii and a weak PC.
You might just be used to it or are incredibly lucky. I don't own a Wii myself but every time I've played one, the sensor's spazzed out on me.
I do feel sorry for the people who have a Wii because they can't afford a decent PC or a PS3/X360. They're missing out on a lot of great games. But hey, I don't get to play Skyward Sword (I'm a Legend of Zelda fan) so I guess we're even.
@DWTerminator It's a bit of an annoyance, but any random IR lights near your TV can upset it pretty easily. You're supposed to go into the wii system menu's settings and change the sensitivity until the only IR you can see (it'll display what the Wii remote "sees" on screen) is the sensor bar.
There are many great exclusives on the wii, but it also gets exclusions from/crappy ports of some great multi-platforms.
Not all of us are. I don't consider myself "good" at them, but I've played them long enough that I've gained certain skills that let me have my moments.
It doesn't. There aren't any subscription fees you have to pay (in other words, online play is free), so really all it costs to play online is whatever you're already paying for internet access.
Yeah, MW2's selling-out to the console crowd really kills it. Also, $15 for 5 maps, 2 of which are in CoD4 (and are *MUCH* better in CoD4)? No, thanks.
The game itself isn't bad. It's just the victim of excessive consolization... which of course means it's ironically so unbalanced and has essentially no support. It's more fun than Halo 3 and Killzone at least...
Punkbuster works wonders against cheaters, but in CoD4 it's a little picky and needs to be fully up to date in order not to kick you constantly. I've never had any problems with that, though.
It's rather difficult to see the difference on a YouTube video because the quality gets scaled down. The console's visual quality is only truly unlocked on an HDTV, but it's still inferior to the PC's (especially in multiplayer, where the visuals are automatically scaled down for performance... on PC, it doesn't scale them down)
PC also gets community-made high-res textures that can make the original (and console) version look like it was made in the mid-90's.
A X1550 will run it around medium settings or so. Killing Floor really isn't all that great to be honest with you. If you're going to play it, I'd advise playing the UT2004 mod version first or waiting till they have a free weekend of it on Steam (which happens quite often actually).
In some ways. The online logistics are *infinitely* superior, and the PC-specific features far outclass MW2. The campaigns are about the same (which isn't a bad thing either way). The visuals in MW2 are better of course, but the performance is better in MW1 due to lack of optimization. There's much more to unlock in MW2, and they put prestige mode on PC in case you want to do that, but the maps aren't robust, IWNet kills the game, and it's simply a 360 game badly converted to PC.
This game was probably as good as it gets with a war game. I don't really have much to say about it. It was great the only problem was I wanted to here my character speak. I know it wasn't necessary but, still I favor when my character interacts with other in the game.
And yeah, the only thing console versions of CoD4 had that PC didn't was prestige, which is pointless if you ask me. MW2 has been delayed on PC though so I'm pretty annoyed about that (consoles release on Nov. 10, but PC version isn't until the 24th... Activision didn't even give a reason why. Not surprising really.)
actually the delay hasn't been comfirmed yet. I doubt it was real because only one website reported it with a potentially unriliable source and every other website that reported the delay was using the first website as source. Also Robert Bowling said that last time he checked the pc date was the same as consoles.
Who knows? Nobody's 100% certain except Activision and Infinity Ward about PC version getting delayed. I certainly hope they don't delay it though. They never say anything about the PC version since all anyone who asks about the game is really concerned with is 360 and PS3. I'm sick of console favoritism, but of course that's where the money is so of course they'll cater to them first.
Well, if it worked fine with the demo it should be fine with the full game. Online actually runs better for me than singleplayer does, but that's probably because it doesn't process AI.
Sweet yeah I've played CoD WaW which is pretty much the same in many ways and I like it a lot. The campaign is only about 15 missions long unfortunately. CoD2 has over 20 so...that was a big dissapointment for me. But yeah the multiplayer is amazing and can keep you playing all day and all night. Trust me...I konw. Lol
I played the CoD WaW beta on PC, which is EXACTLY the same as the full game (apart from having singleplayer and more mp maps)... hated it. If I ever get WaW I'll wait for the price to go down and a patch that actually fixes the game's bugs.
This is probably the most overrated game I ever played honestly........
