At Wimbledon 1983, Jaeger and Martina Navratilova were staying in rented houses not far from each other. Jaeger had an argument with her parents, stormed off and ended up at Navratilova's house. She made advances toward Navratilova, who turned her down. Jaeger was so mortified and embarassed that she couldn't play properly during that Wimbledon final - she was too ashamed to even look Martina in the eye.
@4077Anna juicy! I have heard this story a lot, not sure if it's just a tennis "urban myth" or if it's just common knowledge. It seems to be intimated in several publications as well...
lol, there is no need to get all defensive about it! I just know my stuff because I work in Tennis. Your right she did beat her on Grass once - in 1981 at Eastbourne, then again in Washington. But then lost the last 10 matches they played without winning a set. As for my favourite player - Martina was not so don't go making assursions!
Are you serious? She only lost one match in the whole of 1983 - to Kathy Horvarth in the 4th round of the French Open. Freak result . She lost just 17 games in all her matches at Eastboure that year.
Loved her headband and loooong pony tails. She just looked liked a tennis player! And she was way ahead of her time in terms of modern technique. What a talent.
@borgtennis Whoo, chile. You don't know the half of it when it comes to the "Andrea is a lesbian" saga. It started being whispered about when she was on tour in the 1980's. Pull up a chair...
so now she says she threw the Wimbledon final against Martina just cause she felt guilty about bothering Martina the day before the match...is this to be believed?
Hi PlushHoney, Thanks for the fab video of Miss Jaeger. I was always a fan of Andrea since she started playing at Wimbledon. I still think she is fantastic, now more than ever. Although I am not a believer, I'm glad she has found a vocation that makes her happy. Bless her!
She not only retired due to physical problems from what I remember she also had emotional/ burnout issues. I remember a match I went to in Australia as a kid she cried after the match in an interview, I remember feeling sad for her at the time. She seemed a tortured soul and you can see it in the pics on here. She is a nun now though and seems happy now.
Jaeger's heroine was Evonne Goolagong Cawley and she said as much. She though Evert and Nav were 'up themselves and self absorbed'...
Her great win was over Wade at Wimbledon in the 4th round of 1980 on Center Court. She also ended BJK's Wimbledon career in the Semi's of 83...I would love to see that Wade match again! Wade was totally rattled! Andrea is now a nun, so all is forgiven
Andrea had potential. Has any1 got any footage of her GS matches? &How did she get on with Evert & Martina at the time? I hear that there was beef. How old was she in '82?
aswhole im not to familair wit the tennis bg Andrea Jaeger could have benbe an awesome player had she not retired to do some stupid cancer reseach crap.
Yes Andrea was a great prodigy, if she was not injured she would have fulfilled her true potential. I think one of her best wins was beating Evert in the French Open 82 sf.
Thank you for this frizzly, adorable treat!!! Yet another classic video from you, PlushHoney!!!! You show off Andrea's cuteness and her unintentional absurdity wonderfully here....And the song is a bubbling, frothy gem!

Navratilova was a bitch, especially to Seles at Wimbledon in 1992. Chris and Evonne were the only two ladies in tennis and maybe Court and Austin...
the others like Casals,King, Navratllova, Graf...all bitches. Seles way and above the nicest ever alongside Goolagong

What a great role model/nun/lesbian! Such unrealized potential!

Why would she be a lesbian? Becoming a nun doesn't make you a lesbian.
