Good luck finding an LED at that size that is bright enough. There is no room for a resistor in there to brighten it either. You are limited on voltage based on the circuit board in the mouse.
I have a Q ... the original blue had more mA than the other colored [for e.x. red] ... Is there need to add some transistors ? Or it is still working ?
@Kedo2 I honestly know a lot more about electricity now then I did when I completed this project. When I did this a year ago, I did not add any resistors but just did a basic swap. Looking online you will see that blue LEDs use almost twice the forward voltage than red. This is why my scroll wheel is so dim- because it draws a lot less power. Now that I know about electricity, I would suggest doing the math and adding resistors to the circuit.
Point your scroll wheel LED towards the wheel if you haven't. It will spread the light through it better and give it that full glow look like the factory blue does.
Also, for anyone else doing theirs green, I bought a 4500 MCD 18 degree 3mm, and a 7500 MCD 32 degree 5mm. They work rather nice and the color and brightness is fairly even between the both of them.
Always go with the brighter LED if in doubt and such though, can always dampen them with wax paper or such if they're too bright.
yea it doesn't look like a walk in the park which everyone is describing it, my blue looks fine. i actually wanted it to flicker different colors, i saw some vids on youtube, but they flicker way to fast if you do it the multi-color way, so it looks like puke lol.
Clear bright for the main logo LED, and a red colored plastic for the scroll wheel- it's neither frosted nor clear. It was just red. You would have better brightness if you use a clear bright for the scroll wheel.
Did mine but left the blue wheel one in and changed the logo to a green one :) Also added a blue and red one to the 2 buttons on the side heheh

Hey what was the size of the led? 3 or 5mm?

can you tell me any details about the type of Led's needed? what size voltage etc..

why is the intensity on the scroll wheel so low, shouldn't the whole mouse wheel be glowing red, not just the bottom of it ?

@gprime22 its because he used an actual colored led and not a Super bright one like the clear ones.

Or all you did is buy, change, ....
Thx for an answer :)

cheap fix, turn the leds off. its stealth this way and will blend in with your other coloured gear.

this is by far the best GUIDE-based video on youtube, even though it looks sort of hard

Cheers for that, just 1 more question, what rating of mcd did u use as the ones I have are not very bright, probably only utilizing 2000-3000 mcd
quik7ex 2 years ago
2500mcd. Highest you can go in red is 3500 so you are ok.
The scroll wheel is the dim one for me. I don't know the stats on it.

I purchased some 1.8v with a brightness of about 2000-4000, will this work?
quik7ex 2 years ago
Yes, you should be fine with those.
