I am so glad Im not the only one who finds this terrifying...it used to be on my postman pat videos..and I literally used to cover my ears and start crying because I thought I would die if I listened to it properly. Even now when I found this, I had to wait until daylight to watch it..
what a piece of music!!! when it goes to the minor bit at the end of the video, it makes me feel very melancholic, like a bit of my past I'll never get back......of course that's until you watch the video again (fireman sam in my case)
I know this ident very well.. It's because i have got FA Cup Finals from 1964-1981 on bbc video with this very ident.. I noticed later that the cup finals from 1982-1988 on video were released by the BBC using their next bbc video ident..(Thats the spinning globe one with bbc video underneath in gold letters)
@Aesthricous and if you did use that music as an opening for your film company, what would be the name of your film company? I hope I'm not being personal.
@TheRoute19 it one isn't so bad. i used to be scared of the one with the parallalagrams with colourd lines below with the scary music. i always dreded it at the end of noddy (i love noddy :) )
@TheRoute19 it one isn't so bad. i used to be scared of the one with the parallalagrams with colourd lines below with the scary music . i always dreded it at the end of noddy (i love noddy :) )
It's amazing. I remember watching this when i was younger on a postman pat video. It creates goosebumps, it's beautiful, i almost cried when i watched this as a kid.
The best jingle to a logo ever, I particularly love the closing piece, how it starts off catchy and funky and it turns into a slow sad song at the end.
As the actual year appears to be added on electronically, where as the Copyright is part of the animation on screen. I guess it was just easier and cheaper for the year to be changed on the ident like this.
this music some always went well with the 70s Dr Who theme, Death To The Daleks was first Dr. Who story I bought on VHS that was Christmas 1990 although it was released in the mid 80s all Dr. Who videos then were released in movie format until 1989 when the first unedited Dr. Who was released which was The Daleks as a two part release part 1 The Dead Planet & Part 2 Expadition
I have been passionate about graphic design from a very early age. I think I was about a year old when I first saw this and I remember being amazed by the bright colours. This ident is probably what started my interest in graphic design.
When I was doing my last year of A Level English, we watched a video of Abigail's Party that had these idents on it, and a substantial proportion of the male members of the class (myself included) all collectively went "This was on my Postman Pat videos!" upon seeing it. That's what I associate this logo with though. Good times.
The "Revenge of the Cybermen" one was the original music. RotC was one of the BBC's earliest video releases, in the early 80s. The version here is the second ident.
It's worth noting that at the time these idents were made and screened, the video cassette were highly regarded as one of the technologies of the future. How times have changed when the CD then the DVD came in.
Yeah it is really something,I used to have this on my Postman Pat 3 Vhs, but I reckon someone got rid of it because I can't find it anywhere in my house!
Does everyone else notice the 'moon' shape object that appears too right at the end when the star 'shines' for the last time?!
I always wondered what it was? Was it really space I used to think? :) Are there moons and other planets and things in that blackness? The star needs to shine brighter so we can see them! :)
Seeing this just actually made me cry! I was whisked back in time to being sat in front of the TV watching Postman Pat videos. That is just incredible.
THANK YOU for uploading it. I loved my childhood, and this ident just takes me straight back to it at warp speed whenever I click 'replay'. :)
I've just remembered another video I've seen this one on - when I was at school we had to watch the cartoon version of Animal Farm and it was at the beginning of that.
This one scared me a bit when I was a kid because of the music, but I love it now :) Reminds me of my cousins' Fireman Sam vids. My brother's friend also has old Monty Python videos with this logo on as well.

@AidanLunn Yeah it is a very good ident this is what do you think the tune off this from the 80s is brilliant I mean I tell you another thing Aidan if they released this old BBC Video logo on any old classic videos now it won't be anywere near as good as it was all them years ago when they used too release them on old VHS tapes from the 80s I mean I have to agree with you about what you were saying about great stuff on BBC but ITV is not that bad although the broadcvast programmes are not good
