  • nice guitar

  • Hey Dave, funny you mention the truss rod finishing around or just shy of the body in the Gretsch. Mine has a slight hump around the 15-16th frets and can't figure how to get it the hell outta there...a pain in the backend!

Apart from that videos are the best on here! Cheers

  • @jajabbott

    neck joint hump is common

the frets will need to be levelled in that area to fix it

  • You get better at changing the strings and doing everything after doing it a few times. It only takes me fractionally longer to restring my 6136 than all my other guitars. I had the same problem with my tuners and tuner cranks. I found if you cut into the plastic tip on each side just enough for the the tips of the imperial tuners to fit in it makes it a lot easier.

  • Ultimate guitar. I want it! Who can give me 4000 $?

  • This makes me want a Canadian guitar tech...

  • guess what dave did after this vid with his "student"

  • every time I go into long and mcquade i pick one of those up, play it, and wish I had an extra 4 grand laying around. haha.

  • @cowtippingrocks

    me too :(

  • found it 2:46 lol

  • DR fail! shes a real beaut!

  • Camille's laughter, suggesting that some good times are coming on.. One more reason to stay tuned:)

  • @karul01

    I think She's gonna be a youtube star !!!

  • Your new assistant. . .

Are you actually going to show her face, or does the have two heads?????

  • @gac914

She's gonna get a lot of air time once I start teaching her stuff.

I think she's gonna do fine if she comes back and I didn't scare her away

I actually talked to 6 girls that were interested in learning about guitar setup and repair

    Camille had the best background

People can learn along with her :)

  • For as much as those damn things cost they should be set up perfectly out of the shop. I have a Nashville I bought new in '97 and it had a few problems out of the box too. Gretsch's quality control is shit and it got even worse after Fender bought them.

  • @OtterpopSlaughterMop

Because it has sat with no truss rod tension it required adjustment again the day after set up.

It's sitting in 46% humidity in my guitar room and if it's OK tomorrow I'll let the guy have it.

He'll take it to his dry house, it will get tight and it will be back to square one.

Guitar setups in the dead of winter in Canada can be NO FUN :(

  • @OtterpopSlaughterMop Canada's winters fuck guitars up so much. It's not because of shitty quality control in most cases

  • Man, all week I've been going Gretsch crazy. I come on here to distract myself from the wanton lust coursing through my system and what do I get? MORE GRETSCH PORN. Gahhh. I need to rob a bank, or do unspeakable things for a rich sugarmama/daddy. I think maybe I'll stick to the bank.

A good idea with bigsbys is to put a capo on the neck to hold the tension on the bridge/tailpiece while you get it wound up.

  • @triggerhare

all my freekin capos are lost stolen or broken

I gotta buy a new one

everytime I'm at the shop that I fukin hate I forget cause I'm so pissed off being there I don't think straight and just want to get the fuk outta there :(

  • nice set up glad you found some help.keep em coming

  • Oh man what a purdy guitar, you would think for the money they would come a little better setup from Gretsch.Reminds me of Billy Duffy's from The Cult.Your new assistant sounds very lovely I hope we'll get to see her in a future episode??

  • Dave, I can't wait until your channel takes off in the amount of views.

    Best of luck!

    Bryce

  • @DeadEyeSprout

    Thanks Man !!!

  • I give you a lot of praise....I would be too a scared to even take a screww off that expensive beauty....nice work..

  • @alexis221woodworks

    It's just a machine

    always remember that

  • Great video Dave, Gretsch cetainly spare no sparkle for the white falcon. I've always liked white guitars, perhaps I was influenced by an upside down strat or something ;)

  • @ArielsSmartyPants

all bling aside it has great tone capability !!!

  • @tonystewartracingfan You'd be surprised at how man "expensive" guitars come brand new with terrible setups. *cough* the F and G brands come to mind with bad fret ends, warped necks, poor actions. Almost all new guitars can stand a setup even if they advertise coming "with" a setup already.

  • Go Malcolm Young on that mofo.

  • Hey dave, i was wondering if a 100 percent laquer covered bass guitar needs any moisture, or any 'special treatment' that i might not know of.

  • @ja1234567891 solid guitars are pretty bullet proof, but neck still warp in dry conditions. extreme temp and humidity change can really kik the shit out of any guitar

yer lacquer will CHECK if the wood inside shrinks due to dryness or sudden temp change

46% to %48 humidity is ideal for guitars

  • Congratulations, seems to work out with your first shop assistent!

And what a very nice guitar, how's it possible that such a guitar remains unplayed and is not even setup right...

  • @laspijker

The owner just bought it from someone as new

    who can tell?

  • dave...do you mind if i ask you how many years have you been a guitar tech. ?

  • @squidskunk

I ripped apart my first electric guitar at 13 years old

about 40 years and a bit I guess

    LOL

  • @davey4557 ...hhmm...bought like me...i tor up a 68 fender mustang at 12...i fucked it bad...still have as a matter of fact...

  • is she purty??

  • Hi Davey,

cool guitar man, congrats on your first student :), did you lower the saddle there after straightening the neck?,or did you do something else with the saddle?

    Cheers,

    Jesse

  • @JesseMathews

The thing needed more adjusting today

    they can be like that

The string action was ok once I adjusted the neck

  • @davey4557 that's probably because the neck didn't have tension on it whatsoever at the beginning...

  • Luke Doucet kinda guitar! :)

  • wished i lived in canada to be your shop dummy, but these you tube videos are the next best thing. you have no idea how much i appreciate you posting these videos, i have learned so much!

  • @mordecai52005

    Cheers !!

    Keep watchin and Thanks !!!

  • Really amazing guitar, this and the White Penguin,my buddy wanted to trade his Godin Seagull of the year and pay the diffrence on one of theese (a 2000$ diffrence) Cheers!

  • @unibrow9

    forget the Bling ...

it just plays and sounds COOL !!!

  • Christ, that guitars a beauty. In my mind though, it still doesn't compare to a Les Paul

  • @Glockenator

    it's just fukin SWEET

    what can I say

  • Nice guitar man!!! You should have brought out your new bottle neck slide for the demo!!! ....Huh, Dave, ...speaking of demo's ...maybe your new student could start doing the demo's?

    LOL!!! Cheers!!! ;D

  • @NickedBlade

She is going to be a YOUTUBE Star :)

    you watch and see

  • i heard it's best to change strings on any guitar one at a time.

  • @FatGuyWithAKatana

I never worry much if it is a bolt on neck

neck thru and glued necks it's a good idea
