  • WHO IS PLAYING THE ORGAN?

  • Aretha know she can sang.. I can't believe Bishop Brooks looked so young...

  • I love to see Bishop Ford smile,, :), sing Sis. Franklin

  • There is only one, "Queen of SOUL," Aretha Franklin!!!!!

  • that run @ 3:00 almost killed me!!!! LORD HAVE MERCY! SANG RERE!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Great Lady of God

  • WOW WOW WOOOOOWWWWWW IVE NEVER HEARD ARETHA DO GOSPEL AND WOW SHE IS TRULY A GOSPEL SINGER / OL SCHOOL

  • This is the Absolute WORST EDITING EVER!!!! Thoroughly Ridiculous!!!....This clip as well as James Moore's Tribute..Nonesense!!! POST THE SONGS IN THEIR ENTIRETY!!! MY GOODNESS!!!

  • God bless and keep Aretha and heal her body for he is able to any and everything.

  • YES LORD YES gone Aretha Sang Queen sang!!!!

  • Everybody please pray for our sister Aretha who is greatly beloved....i was just told that she is batteling cancer. If it be God's will i pray that he will deliver her and restore her to full health.

  • @girlmusician24 I agree and plus her voice has improved so much since the 80's. It will be just as great as her Amazing grace album.

  • I want Aretha to put out another gospel album.

  • thanks Sammy that one has been eating at me down thru the years....

  • Sing REEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTT

  • I bet its a couple of 'black folks' that are in here arguing over who's better than who or who was first and all such 'ignorance' because I've seen this behavior in 'my people' instead of wasting all that time on a fruitless conversation why not concentrate on the gift and the one who gave them the gift JESUS and the message and what we all have in common and what's the common answer JESUS..and as Forrest would say...and that's about all I have to say on that...and do pray for Slimbrotherluv

  • @slimbrotherluv AMEN!!!!!

  • @a1d2h YES SHE DOES AND i LOVE IT. Aretha and Vanessa should record a song together......OMG I can imagine the harmony and the runs they could do to compliment each others voices........

  • i'm not sure which singer i like more: Aretha Franklin or Mahalia Jackson. both women have/had such powerful, moving and dynamic voices, and both voices are instantly recognizable and are DEFINITELY soul-stirring.

  • RE REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE- the Queen of this thing.

  • Now when Aretha Franklin is singing at your funeral, that speaks volumes of the impact that Mattie Moss Clark has made on the music industry.

  • ill never forget that heartbreaken funeral

  • and i love how the elders showed their respect for her gift and asked her to do just a lil bit more...i wish i could see the rest of the clip!

  • Aretha has a voice that just can't be duplicated. I really enjoyed this hymn.

  • @mostintellectualgirl You got that right. No one can touch her.

  • Whose funeral was this?

  • @xaviercoombs Mattie moss clark

  • why's there not sound?

  • SMH @ these people debating. Just hursh and enjoy the clip! Goodness!

  • I know how good Mahalia, Shirley and all the rest od the gospel greats are but Queen Aretha is simply the best. Aretha has FLAVOR and the kind of FLAVOR and vocal technique that none of those other singers ever had! Arethas Amazing Grace was so danm good that everybody listened it just because it sounded so dan good! Mahalia and Shirley are in the gospel arena and Aretha can walk right in there and sing circles around then all. Aretha is all music, unique and beyond category!

  • @mostick313 Mostick Aretha it is a fact that Aretha is one of the greatest gospel singers ever. She has a deeper connection than most full time gospel singers, but don't disrespect Mahalia Jackson. Who is the Queen of Gospel. Her and Aretha are the best in gospel in my opinion. You don't have to tear someone down to bring Aretha up. That is just uncalled for.

  • I agree with the previous comments, the real Queen of Gospel, Mahalia Jackson did that often when she sung at funerals and concerts, and since Aretha came up under her, its common for her to do that....lol

  • How many days did Mattie have for her service and what year did she die?

  • @nolagemini I belivev the homegoing lasted for 2 days. Dr clark died in 1994

  • Aretha is the "Queen of Soul", not "Queen of Gospel"....and has been for more than 30 years

  • I could only imagine what it was like to be there. I bet the spirit was moving like no other through that place. I wish i could see the sister's faces

  • Aretha is the Queen of Soul, Shirley Caesar is the Queen of Gospel...

  • @Jerald2010 thank you for clearing that up...lol! but albertina would have something to say about shirley having that title. albertina was given that title first. shirley is really recognized as the first lady of gospel music!! but they are all queens to me!!

  • Actually you both are wrong. Mahalia Jackson is the Queen of Gospel, Albertina began to call herself that but i think Mahalia is the real Queen of Gospel.

  • @TheQueenAretha i have read her as the queen of gospel, this is correct, but albertina has that title because she has been responsible for giving so many artists exposure and she has singled handedly introduced so many artists to record labels and has been responsible for their start. she was the one who gave cleveland his start and the stellars had the nerve to give her the james cleveland award!! the nerve...lol. but they're all excellent to me!!

  • Shirley is called the 1st lady of Gospel

  • Comment removed

  • Clara and Mahalia wuz like mothers to Aretha,,, Aretha's real mother died when she wuz twetve ! james C wuz a teenager when he came to live with the franklins,,,maybe 20 not more than 23 lol

  • Actually Aretha's mother died when Aretha was only 10 years old.

  • In the case of Mahalia Jackson, you can hear on the records people asking for more, and Mahalia even says on one of them something like "This is the part where you go home". But I didn't know about the making the crowd pay more money part.

  • lmbo there were not about to let her go. How you get conered like dat with no way out. I am roll on the floor over here at that

  • what happen was Bishop Ford Encourged miss Franklin and then prayed for her he also ask her to sing again. The men that stood up with bishop Ford were the general board it was to show that they r n agreement with their cheif leader.

  • she had me at "Somewhere......"

  • When Aretha sings she really ministers to me. I have heard so many singers in my life time but this sister got something a little different from the rest. Aretha is very sincere when she sings, she is not trying to show off and her sincereity comes through in her delivery. I respect so many other's artistry, but there is only one Aretha Franklin.

  • what was wrong with Aretha y dey had to talk 2 her???

  • lol it was nothing wrng with areatha, she pulled a mahalia, she walked away from the mike while the crowd is still begging for more and then they do the lil phony begging her into going back to da mike to give em more, dats all that was, they all do dat crap, i love areatha but u can tell dat was very fake. mahalia use to do it when she use to sing at funerals to

  • wow really i never knew

  • Where did you get that at? About Mahalia?

  • lol..my question exactly?!

  • where u get that bout Mahalia?

  • mahalia use to walk away from the mike while the crowd still wanted more, thats even proven in some videos here on youtube, and its written in some biography's about her, sometime the promoters would hold mahalia backstage until the crowd gave more money then they would let her go out, its all about the anticipation to hear the voice, aretha came under mahalias tutolidge so im not shocked to see her do it to, they always have to talk them into goin back out and giving the crowd more.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheFirecogicuk well u must not be that great of a historian because its spoken about very clearly in the dvd documentary (mahalia jackson the power and the glory). and i dnt understand why its so hard for ppl to beleive dat mahalia was not only a great singer but she was a business women, even though the church holding her off for more funds backstage had nothing to do with her, mahalia was held backstage until that second or maybe third collection plate came around and then they let her go out

  • @jadon360 I know that Mahalia was and still is the great gosple singer I,m aweare of that. I know she had a hair dresser and a flower shop. I know she was a great bussiness woman. Its also trure what you said about the church. They used keep so much money back from her. Have you haerd about the thing Mahalia had with Ed Sullivan its shows that miss jackson demaned respect. I know more about miss jackson then proberly you can watch on DVD. Love you with the love of the lord.

  • i thought arether came up under clara ward

  • @jadon360 wow but they did do that back in the day. and in those days folk were going through so much I guess, to hear a soothing word from the lord in song they would beg for more and give more pennies.

  • Actully Bishop Ford and the general bord were praying and encourgeing Miss Franklin. Then Bishop Ford asked her to sing again.

  • If ya listen to that run at 3:00 who can tell me where she took that from? That wasn't Mahalia or Clara or Ella or NOBODY that was pure Franklin. That was God singin'

    Thankya Lawd.

  • this editing is aweful!!!! Please post it without cutting it off while these singers are in mid riff!

  • Where was the family sitting in church?? And how come you can't see any of them on the vdeo clips??

  • Is that the late E. Smith of Greensboro @ 1:44?

  • yes Aretha sing!

  • that's tru...no matter how much Aretha belts out R-E-S-P-E-C-T...gospel is her true sound or genre of music...Amen Aretha!!!

  • Oh I'm sorry I didn't realize this was the funeral of Dr Moss-Clark. She is surely missed and had a wontabulous voice and great leadership.

  • Lord, Lord, if I could've only been there?.....Love the fabulousness of Ms Franklin's voice.

  • This is just pure brillance right here. No one possesses Aretha's spirit. Gospel is just imbeded in Aretha. She couldn't leave the church if she tried. It was alway in her.

  • Yessssssssssss! Sing Ms Franklin...

  • BEAUTIFUL I WISH IT WAS LOUDER

  • This was very moving i tell you, there really are many great singers but Aretha is in a class all by herself. She is so good at touching your soul and i just couldn't look at this once i had to come back several times. I agree with you DaStr8truth,when you said she gets behind the meaning of a song and no grand standing. I love this lady eventhough we never met,but her music has been a very constant thing in my life. GOD Bless Aretha Franklin.

  • Everybody knows that back in the day Aretha was the standard bearer when it came to Gospel singing, simply because she was so well known and use to have that Gospel sound to her secular music. Vanessa is one of many who use to study Aretha and imitate her early on. James said that everybody at one point was intrested in an Aretha's interp of a song and when she did Amazing Grace album it bridged the gap between secular music and Gospel. There r many great singers but only one Aretha Franklin.

  • I Agree

  • @clarkxtreem I ALSO AGREE

  • @DaStr8Truth ...many great singers, but only one Aretha Franklin! Well Said!

  • @DaStr8Truth you said that!

  • @DaStr8Truth I agree as well...except for the imitate part lol, no disrespect but I'm sure Vanessa never imitated Aretha. I could be wrong though lol.

  • @DaStr8Truth Treu u r so right! thank u for realizing that

  • @DaStr8Truth Tell it! Except ---> "Everybody knows that Aretha IS the standard bearer when it comes to singing" <--- ReRe will STILL make it rain. I put her up against ANYONE of these "singers" today. Fan and Bey included.

  • Aretha Franklin is one of a kind and she can bring it. That sister was and is the true Queen Of Soul....her delivery of a song is unmatched. Aretha feels every note and when she sings there is no grand standing, she just puts herself into the song's meaning and let it flow. These singers of today scream too much and care more about fame then the delivery and meaning. Aretha will always be loved for her tremendous contribution to Gospel,Soul,R&B,Pop....she just one of a kind.

  • she sing at everybodys funeral

  • LOL!

    Luther Vandross, Rosa Parks,

Martin Luther King... you could make a Playlist right here on Youtube of Aretha's funeral performances.

  • For Real.. Lol... But she gives it to us everytime...

  • Hahahaha! That's funny! Someone should do that. Aretha Franklins Greatest Funeral Hits!

  • Does anyone have a copy of the complete version, without it being edited as this one is?

  • Aretha stay showing up to sing at somebody's funeral. lol. She's saaaannging though. And yeah she sounds ALOT like Vanessa Bell Armstrong to me too.

  • Don't you mean that the other way around?? LOL. Vanessa sounds a lot like Aretha since she studied her

  • im in tears.... literally

  • Whyyyyy?

  • That's my Queen!!!

  • ;-( I'm unable to hear this. Is youtube already muting videos?

  • That run at the 3 minute mark just was perfect!

  • Yes it was! Aretha was sangin!

Sounded a lot like VBA right there

  • I would actually say she sounded like herself. She did a lot of that kind of singing in her prime. Vanessa also studied Aretha too so...

  • I used to say the same thing until I heard all of Aretha's music over the years particularly the Amazing Grace cd. When I heard it, I said her range on it reminded me of Patti Labelle while the runs reminded me of Vanessa Bell Armstrong. That's when it hit me. Aretha was singing like that in her prime all the time. There's clips on youtube I believe of Vanessa talking about how she listened to Aretha.

  • Okay, I'm just curious. What is Aretha signing then?

  • I'll fly away ---it was interesting right there at 3:31 obviously he asked her to do one more round she hesitated but by 3:34 was one her way back to the podium

  • It is good to see the late Bishop Cleveland Anderson of Detroit of as well as Bishop L.H. Ford and J.Neaul Haynes of Dallas..this is just the COGIC.

  • Yes you are seeing the video wrong Bishop Owens and Elder Jackson know Alretha very well. Bishop Chandler Owens was presiding Bishop of COGIC I doubt he would be standing in line for anyones autograph.

  • When Dr. Clark passed away, Bishop Owens was not the Presiding Bishop. Bishop L. H. Ford was the P. B. at that time.

  • My apology but nevertheless they were not standing up for her autograph that was the point.

  • You are correct.

  • correct.....

  • I think they were telling her do another round of I'll fly away.

  • You need to post that dance they broke out in after that!

  • Actually, there was no dance per se. The only person who danced at this homegoing was "The Happy Preacher" (I don't know his name). I think our hearts were too broken to dance.

  • I understand it was a sad day but there was still a little bump after Alretha and Rance.

  • sing my prayers are with the family may God keep you

  • My SINCERE apologies to the family and friends of Dr. Mattie Moss Clark. It has been brought to my attention, that I must have this Dr. Clark confused--and, I most certainly did. I had been surfing looking at videos of Rev. Dr. Cesar A. W. Clark of Good Street Baptist Church (Dallas, TX); saw the tribute that said Aretha Franklin Dr. Clark tribute and associated by error. Again, my most SINCERE apologies.

  • You must have your Dr. Clark's confused, this is the homegoing celebration service of Dr. Mattie Moss Clark. She was the International President of the music department of the Church of God in Christ, Inc.

  • This video is shot at the Homegoing of Dr.Mattie Juliet Moss Clark in Sept of 1994 at Bailey Cathedral C.O.G.I.C. 7045 Curtis Ave Detroit MI

  • Lets pray for aretha...

  • OH Lawd. My girl showed up and showed OUT. OUT. I love how when Re is feelin her voice at FULL stregnth she gon stay right there till she gets thru. Till the Lawd tells her "Well done."

Although that organist shoulda left it alone tho, Billy Preston wouldn'ta played all that. He sounds like he need the bathroom.

  • She is the Queen of Gospel, Soul, R&B, Jazz, Classical Music/Opera and the list goes On & On! Sing On Aretha!

  • Let's not be too hasty.

  • roll that up and smoke it! she did that!

  • HALLELUJAH JESUS!!

  • OMG! OMG! Did Retha have to come in and just show out like dat! I luv her voice every since i was a child. Aretha got her voice truly from her dad and was mentored by great people like Mahalia. If she turns totally over to gospel. My lord. shondoe. lol. datz tongues lol... But really she is AWESOME!!! Sang Re...

  • Is this her actual funeral or is this some time later?

  • I believe it's the actual funeral

  • It was the actual homegoing service. I was there.

  • yes Aretha sing!

  • i guess they didn't have tripods back then...

  • Ree's well will never run dry meaning gospel is in her "DNA".

  • She sang this with a lot of her daddy's and Mahalia Jackson's spirit in this homecooming tribute. Can I get uh witness?

  • SoulSir your obvservation is ON POINT. Can't deny that Ree is C.L. Franklin's child or that Mahalia put some time in with her. There's a lot of Clara Ward and Jackie Verdell in Aretha too! It's funny how people forget that people like Aretha (who is such a HUGE influence on other people's singing) had influences too!

  • TRG . . . you are so right and let's not forget the influence of Sam Cooke who stoped by Aretha's house when she was a young teenager, too.

  • nor MARION WILLIAMS

  • And she is Baptist lol!

  • Right!!!

  • i was dare also..wit my mouth wide open!!!!!!!! speechless!!..lol

  • I new this was going to be good when I heard :27-:34

  • Yap she killed it

  • Go ahead Aretha!

  • I was there on that day. It was magical. I have a great relationship with Dr. Clark. She taught me alot about music ministry. I didn't really understand what she was saying until now. Sometimes we don't know what we have among us until we lose it. Bishop Patterson, was the same way. May God bless the memory of these great people. To the family, stay encouraged, you girls are making your mother proud!

  • Re is really Killing!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes! Yes! Yes!

  • All hail the Queen!

  • No commenty......I can't after that!

  • The QUEEN has spoken!
