I've been a fan of the NCAA and Madden games since they've been worth playing (2009), and i have to say, the demo to this DESTROYS those in terms of gameplay. It's lacking polish, but the gameplay is what matters most.
The demo is cool only problem isthe players have NO balance what so ever, the juking and stiff arming and what not is perfect but if someone barely grabs you you can't even keep running to attempt to break free, shit you can't do that in madden to so I'm not saying its bad just annoying that if they get a finger on you your screwed unless you're running them over
@izuru67 I rarely had that problem occur. Actually i had plenty of times where i broke tackles/bounced off defenders, almost fell, and managed to re-gather and make big gains. The engine's not perfect, but the fact that it's come this far is amazing.

Backbreaker is almost finally here! Finally a good Football game (AKA really 2K all Pro Football not 3.0 but, 5.0!!!!!). My only problem is that ot is DAMN ... I Mean DAMN tough to see sometimes and the music and sounds are quite thin and tinny! Should be amazing though! Create teams no online trading though. (expected) Won't sell...but it will be the best football game ever made. If EA wanted to make the best game, they would just have bought Euphoria! Thanx jackass EA again!
I've watched a lot of videos on this, and it looks spectacular, I just hope that the AI isn't leaping and diving all over the place like I've seen in these videos.
@xShrewsburyX Nah its impossible for them to swap out an engine in the short span of a few months. What you see of Madden 2011 today is what you'll get in August. I also doubt, even with the engine, that Madden 2012 will feature it. They must heavily modify it. Imagine drawing Drew Brees face on these bulky players, lol. Problem is for Madden to modify the engine, they need the source code, and no deal is in the works. BB2 has practically been announced on the official forum.

I checked out IGN and Gamespot and Backbreaker is not on the upcoming release dates or popular game list. You really need to go out of your way to find it. The first 5 paragraphs on the Gamespot preview whine about the camera angle. IGN oddly lists both the Xbox, AND ps3 version of *NCAA11 before Backbreaker. Why?

I agree Madden was had more realism in PS2. I hate the next gen games because its so full of fake ass animations like Brian Westbrook getting held by like 5ppl and then breaking through ALL of them lol so fake. Backbreaker I might rent or buy idunno hopefully a demo come out.

Can't wait till June 1st to play this game. Genuine simulation of player movement and ability. This is going to be an authentic feel to a sports game. First ever live action sports game with alot of different game modes and the deepest customization tools in sports gaming history.
This game's got me thinking about future football games. The character models in this game are much more arcade-y than Madden, and understandably so. If EA ever uses this technology, they'd have to accurately recreate every NFL player's body type, weight, height, speed and strength; and then implement that data into the euphoria system. That is a LOT of physics-related information flying around all at once, and probably would require much more computing power than today's consoles have to offer.
Playing a linebacker in this game would be un-fucking-real, i love delivering enormous hits but once you've tackled about 5 people in madden then you've seen all the animations. This tackle on the fly engine is fantastic and what makes this game and even though it doesn't come with the NFL teams because EA is so incredibly selfish, i would rather have a game with realistic gameplay over NFL teams
That tackle demo would of broke the guy's wrist trying to support his weight coming down. As with everyone else that's posted I like the idea it just needs to be turned down for a more realistic football experience to compete with Madden. If they are aiming at a NFL Blitz type of game then they are on the money.

@THATMUTHA I was as well, but NFL sold that shit all to EA. Yet in Backbreaker they have a good customization haul of stuff. So i guess we'll see some people making teams and uploading it. They buy the exclusive NFL license to bar 2K from it. They could've spent that fortune making the greatest football game of all time, instead they chose to attack their competition. If Backbreaker eats into Madden's sales, EA will probably buy the company just to prevent them from making more and keep churning out the same rehashed crap every year.

Uhhh I like the idea, Euphoria makes a lot more sense than the Madden pre-animated engine but seriously, this does not look good. And I'm not talking about the subpar models and textures. The play-by-play example they had, no body falls like that. It seems that as soon as they collide, all life and strength leaves the body and they fall like ragdolls. And I for one never want to see the old school rag doll engines return to gaming.
This game has been talked about for a while now and I'm glad its finally coming out, I thought it was scrapped for while. I haven't bought Madden since 06 and don't plan to change that. I've been playing NFL 2K5 since I FINALLY bought it last summer. I'm kind of disappointed that 2K isn't going to make All Pro 2K anymore, but glad Epic games is bringing out up updated football title.

@moman007 No, it would make then a true NFL fan. And I recently got into Madden since there wasn't any competition around and I heard good things about it. And generally, Madden 10 is a great looking and fun game. It's not perfect, I'll admit that no problem. But it doesn't hinder the fun of the experience. There's this growing trend of within the casual gaming community who only play sports games. My friend has a 360 specifically for the NHL games. So licensing does have its advantages.
@MobiusCoin The hits do seem strange sometimes but the physics of the euphoria engine is so revolutionary in a sports game. So what if the tackles look a little strange, its the first time a REAL football game has been made, where every player has a realistic influence on the ball carrier, where shoulders colliding actually does something, and isnt an awkward deflection. Honestly, a true FOOTBALL (not NFL) fan does not care if its NFL, CFL or EFL, a good football game is a good football game.
@moman007 lol I dunno if I would play a CFL game lol, second down conversions are not my cup of tea. I live in Canada and I'm way more excited about Bills in Toronto than Argonauts games. Still, it will be interesting to have all those features. Maybe I'll finally be able to do a proper swim move.

@moman007 There seems to be a limitation on the control schemes when it comes to all the specific moves. I mean, I'm sure the engine does a decent job at handling all of that one the players but there are only so many buttons on a 360 or PS3 controller, I can't imagine how they would pull it off.
@MobiusCoin Im not sure what you mean, gimme an example, the game has juke, spin, stiff arm, truck, tuck ball, dive, switch ball hand. What else are you talkin about?
@moman007 Okay, so there is swim moves and shoelace tackles, and jukes, most of them are done using the right analogue stick in Madden. These things only happen when certain parameters are hit or whatever. I could never really helicopter tackle on command or swim on command. It just happens, but they do happen. They exist, but you can't... just do them or even try to do them. You just lean on the right analogue stick. And I don't think its fair to blame Madden, game controllers just don't offer
@moman007 enough control for that kind of thing. I mean, you can stiff arm, spin, hurdle, and juke as a QB, WR, HB, FB, or TE. But as anyone on D-line, you just lean on that stick and whatever animation happens happens. Maybe this game will fix that, but I don't see how. It's too much for one player to think about, especially when you are zoomed out that far and can't tell what is happening to the player you are playing.
@MobiusCoin why are you discussing madden? I dont care about madden. All the moves are there and they've been easily mapped to the right analog stick in backbreaker. When you're on the D-line, its not that hard to understand whats going on and its not a lot to think about. Just move the right analog stick and do a swim move. This isn't rocket science.

But as far as I can tell, what they are trying to sell me with, the physics engine, it has great potential. But I feel the first release won't live up to that potential. Every hit I've seen in this video feels video gamey and rag dollish. Yeah Madden has its awkward moments, but it doesn't always look awkward. This game does as of now, I'm interested to see what they do with Backbreaker 3, 4, 5..
@MobiusCoin I think Backbreaker will be good but will have tons of issues. I played football for 6 solid years and I absolutely love the sport, BUT, i hate madden games with a passion. Back on the ps2 they were solid games, but the newest ones are unacceptable as next gen sports games. Poor physics coupled with canned animations does not equal next gen. NFL license does have its benefits, which is why madden 11 will still beat backbreaker. But i think backbreaker will be a better football game.

I think what madden needs is to take a 2 year break to develope a game so amazing, and while they do that, they can just update the rosters for the old game.

I loved 2K, i think EA has become complacent with Madden. 2K had a real threat with 2K5 for only 19.99. EA got scared, sucked the NFL's dick, and got what basically is a monopoly. I really hope this game does well, Madden needs competition, plus maybe 2K will throw their hat back in the game.

@NDFBfaithful Madden's a horrible simulation. there's no way Roddy White can run over Rey Lewis and 3 other LB's in one play. Cheap AI, recycled animations, and unrealistic running mechanics make the game flawed. BB looks ok and looks far more realistic than Madden on terms of physics and movement there is not tron jogging or instantaneous turing the players have to get their footing right before a big turn. Sadly it looks like the controls in BB maybe flawed. But so far so good.

So the ability to create your favorite NFL teams, realistic physics, stunning graphics, and a fun list of minigames. Don't forget the Franchise mode......yeah, basically everything Madden has, and THEN some.
i will bet you 1million dollars BB franchise wont touch Maddens. that said it is their first year making the franchise. no possible way it is as polished
@TorsoManza I'm not expecting that either. What I basically already know is that when it comes down to realism, replayability, and overall fun, BB will probably be light-years ahead of Madden.
EA is a douche for being only company able to make NFL games tho. the first backbreaker wont be able to hold a candle to all Maddens feature, but in a couple years, once they get comfortable in the industry, it will be better imo

I agree Madden was had more realism in PS2. I hate the next gen games because its so full of fake ass animations like Brian Westbrook getting held by like 5ppl and then breaking through ALL of them lol so fake. Backbreaker I might rent or buy idunno hopefully a demo come out.

Can't wait till June 1st to play this game. Genuine simulation of player movement and ability. This is going to be an authentic feel to a sports game. First ever live action sports game with alot of different game modes and the deepest customization tools in sports gaming history.

This game's got me thinking about future football games. The character models in this game are much more arcade-y than Madden, and understandably so. If EA ever uses this technology, they'd have to accurately recreate every NFL player's body type, weight, height, speed and strength; and then implement that data into the euphoria system. That is a LOT of physics-related information flying around all at once, and probably would require much more computing power than today's consoles have to offer.

Playing a linebacker in this game would be un-fucking-real, i love delivering enormous hits but once you've tackled about 5 people in madden then you've seen all the animations. This tackle on the fly engine is fantastic and what makes this game and even though it doesn't come with the NFL teams because EA is so incredibly selfish, i would rather have a game with realistic gameplay over NFL teams

That tackle demo would of broke the guy's wrist trying to support his weight coming down. As with everyone else that's posted I like the idea it just needs to be turned down for a more realistic football experience to compete with Madden. If they are aiming at a NFL Blitz type of game then they are on the money.

@THATMUTHA I was as well, but NFL sold that shit all to EA. Yet in Backbreaker they have a good customization haul of stuff. So i guess we'll see some people making teams and uploading it. I like how the game is realistic I am not buying a madden ever. It is the same bull every year they just change options and layout.

the euphoria engine / backbreaker look awesome...but ironically the running and player models actually distract attention away from the revolutionary and innovative tackling and player interaction....if they had simply made the characters look more realistic...and not so cartoonish...this game would be the best football video game ever

@n8goesSPLAT EA has proven to be unwilling to spend money on improving Madden. 2K makes a better NFL game and sells it for cheaper - what does EA do? They buy the exclusive NFL license to bar 2K from it. They could've spent that fortune making the greatest football game of all time, instead they chose to attack their competition. If Backbreaker eats into Madden's sales, EA will probably buy the company just to prevent them from making more and keep churning out the same rehashed crap every year.

Uhhh I like the idea, Euphoria makes a lot more sense than the Madden pre-animated engine but seriously, this does not look good. And I'm not talking about the subpar models and textures. The play-by-play example they had, no body falls like that. It seems that as soon as they collide, all life and strength leaves the body and they fall like ragdolls. And I for one never want to see the old school rag doll engines return to gaming.

This game has been talked about for a while now and I'm glad its finally coming out, I thought it was scrapped for while. I haven't bought Madden since 06 and don't plan to change that. I've been playing NFL 2K5 since I FINALLY bought it last summer. I'm kind of disappointed that 2K isn't going to make All Pro 2K anymore, but glad Epic games is bringing out up updated football title.
Screw the NFL license, I just want to play some football!

@moman007 No, it would make then a true NFL fan. And I recently got into Madden since there wasn't any competition around and I heard good things about it. And generally, Madden 10 is a great looking and fun game. It's not perfect, I'll admit that no problem. But it doesn't hinder the fun of the experience. There's this growing trend of within the casual gaming community who only play sports games. My friend has a 360 specifically for the NHL games. So licensing does have its advantages.

@MobiusCoin The hits do seem strange sometimes but the physics of the euphoria engine is so revolutionary in a sports game. So what if the tackles look a little strange, its the first time a REAL football game has been made, where every player has a realistic influence on the ball carrier, where shoulders colliding actually does something, and isnt an awkward deflection. Honestly, a true FOOTBALL (not NFL) fan does not care if its NFL, CFL or EFL, a good football game is a good football game.

@moman007 lol I dunno if I would play a CFL game lol, second down conversions are not my cup of tea. I live in Canada and I'm way more excited about Bills in Toronto than Argonauts games. Still, it will be interesting to have all those features. Maybe I'll finally be able to do a proper swim move.

@moman007 There seems to be a limitation on the control schemes when it comes to all the specific moves. I mean, I'm sure the engine does a decent job at handling all of that one the players but there are only so many buttons on a 360 or PS3 controller, I can't imagine how they would pull it off.

@moman007 Okay, so there is swim moves and shoelace tackles, and jukes, most of them are done using the right analogue stick in Madden. These things only happen when certain parameters are hit or whatever. I could never really helicopter tackle on command or swim on command. It just happens, but they do happen. They exist, but you can't... just do them or even try to do them. You just lean on the right analogue stick. And I don't think its fair to blame Madden, game controllers just don't offer

@moman007 enough control for that kind of thing. I mean, you can stiff arm, spin, hurdle, and juke as a QB, WR, HB, FB, or TE. But as anyone on D-line, you just lean on that stick and whatever animation happens happens. Maybe this game will fix that, but I don't see how. It's too much for one player to think about, especially when you are zoomed out that far and can't tell what is happening to the player you are playing.

@MobiusCoin why are you discussing madden? I dont care about madden. All the moves are there and they've been easily mapped to the right analog stick in backbreaker. When you're on the D-line, its not that hard to understand whats going on and its not a lot to think about. Just move the right analog stick and do a swim move. This isn't rocket science.

@moman007 Oh, also I don't want to pre-judge this game. I'll definitely try it and see if I like it. But as far as I can tell, what they are trying to sell me with, the physics engine, it has great potential. But I feel the first release won't live up to that potential. Every hit I've seen in this video feels video gamey and rag dollish. Yeah Madden has its awkward moments, but it doesn't always look awkward. This game does as of now, I'm interested to see what they do with Backbreaker 3, 4, 5..

@MobiusCoin I think Backbreaker will be good but will have tons of issues. I played football for 6 solid years and I absolutely love the sport, BUT, i hate madden games with a passion. Back on the ps2 they were solid games, but the newest ones are unacceptable as next gen sports games. Poor physics coupled with canned animations does not equal next gen. NFL license does have its benefits, which is why madden 11 will still beat backbreaker. But i think backbreaker will be a better football game.

@TheBulldogWay42 this is where i make you look bad. Madden gets a year to complete a game, and when you get such little time its to hard to focus on more then one thing. ANd they do more then one thing also. Maddens been a successful franchise and always will be, im not saying the games are amazing but madden 10 was a HUGE improvment. I think what madden needs is to take a 2 year break to develope a game so amazing, and while they do that, they can just update the rosters for the old game.

I loved 2K, i think EA has become complacent with Madden. 2K had a real threat with 2K5 for only 19.99. EA got scared, sucked the NFL's dick, and got what basically is a monopoly. I really hope this game does well, Madden needs competition, plus maybe 2K will throw their hat back in the game.

Fucking thank you, im a 2K fan, and a Blitz fan, i hope those people who love 2K and Blitz buy this to outsell Madden just to show Madden that it finally has some compitition on the rise. I just wish 2K and this company could join forces and beat the shit out of EA. Ea is nothing but a HYPE machine, that does little for a person each year but add in a few things, barely any enhancements and racks in millions a year, i feel bad for EA fans everywhere lol. How anyone can compare this to blitz is either just a ignorant madden fanboy or just on a mission of hate. What in the hell do you think madden does every year before they show actual gameplay vids!? They show nothing but, highlights just like BB is doing to get the so called "hype machine" rolling.

@NDFBfaithful Madden's a horrible simulation. there's no way Roddy White can run over Rey Lewis and 3 other LB's in one play. Cheap AI, recycled animations, and unrealistic running mechanics make the game flawed. BB looks ok and looks far more realistic than Madden on terms of physics and movement there is not tron jogging or instantaneous turing the players have to get their footing right before a big turn. Sadly it looks like the controls in BB maybe flawed. But so far so good.

So the ability to create your favorite NFL teams, realistic physics, stunning graphics, and a fun list of minigames. Don't forget the Franchise mode......yeah, basically everything Madden has, and THEN some.
