The neglect & abuse cases have gone up 1400% (no that's not a typo) since the US slaughter houses were made to close. Mexico slaughter houses are in no way humane, that's exactly why the US should allow them to be reopened. It's not something anyone enjoys but it is a necessary evil at this time.

closing slaughter houses in the US is like closing orphanages for children. It doesnt stem the flow of the unwanted. It only takes a humane option away from them. Focus your money on fixing the overbreeders who contribute. I dont agree with slaughter. But we owe it to the horse to provide them with a humane ending to a life they didnt chose. horse slaughter is now legal again in the states. and i think it's a blessing for thousands of horses that have suffered from abuse. horse rescues are getting full, there simply isn'y enough money to care for every abandoned or abused animal. these horses can finally find peace, rather than continue to suffer if not able to find a home...the same happens to dogs and cats in shelters that cannot find homes. as a rider and a horse lover, i believe horse slaughter is acceptable.

You say kill buyers outbid private people wanting the horse, but if they cannot afford to outbid the kill buyers, could they afford to look after them? Being that meat price is so low?

as a man who slaughters horses I have this to say, there is nothing wrong with running a slaughter house, everyday I slaughter horses, cows,chickens, turkeys, pigs, and lambs, it is the best way I know how to support my family and I get free meat because I slaughter my animals for my own food as well

It is not "horse lovers" that are doing this or that are Killing horses, it is breeders that are in it to make money. I am a horse lover, and have never bred my horses, and never will. I recently bought a ottb gelding from his breeder. He failed at racing and was sold dirt cheap because of it. They had over 50 horses at that farm, and were talking about breeding other breeds because they make more money these days. Its all about the money to them, not the horses.

winstin, I have been in the horse business for longer than you have been alive. I know what I am talking about. I have had world champion apha horses and I have been featured in horse magazines back in the 90's. You are defending people because they do not know any better? That is the whole problem with the markets. People that do not know what they are doing have no business in it. Actually the double decker trailers were not outlawed in the US, they still use them. Just thought you should understand that fact. Also, Canada's transportation laws are more strict than American laws. We can use double deckers but it is frowned upon.

I have a neighbor that is a self proclaimed "horse breeder," she hasn't been able to sell a horse in 3 years and keeps breeding. Now she has like 12 horses that she doesn't have room for and can't afford to feed. You think she should even be allowed to own horses? Just irresponsible. Do any of you people actually own horses? Or know anything regarding the costs associated with upkeep/maintenance? Horses are meat animals. Like beef, chicken, and pork, horses were meant for consumption. The meat is clean, and it provides excellent nutrient. It's grotesque to have to slaughter them, but who's going to pay for the excess? Are you going to give up your meals and the meals of your family to feed and maintain them?? Let people who actually know what they are doing deal with it.

Ok, i know that horses are pretty but if you eat meat at all. Cattle, fish, chicken, it doesnt matter. Unless you think that the value of life is based on your subjective standered of animal beauty then you should have nothing to say about horses being used as meat. In the wild they are hunted by predators,but in the USA they are in invasive species brought here by the spanish and have few predators. I have had horse before, it is closer to deer then beef.
Ok Elliexxjake, next time I know of a load of horses going to mexico I'll call you up. That will be 1000 dollars per horse, and 100 per month, per horse for as long as you own them to feed them. And when you cannot afford them anymore you will have to give them away to someone else that will "save" them because to get your 1000 dollars per horse back, you would have to send them to mexico, and you just couldn't handle that. Thats why all of you should not own horses.

When we were slaughtering in the US, the horses were put down with vet doctors. Horses were worth more money and not starved to death. They were not sent to mexico in cattle pods to have their necks sliced and bled out. Everyone that helped shut down the american horse slaughter houses helped to create more horse suffering and a decline of the value of the horses causing less people to care for the animals.
Just stop slaughtering horses, they are perfecting good animals and shouldn't be slaughtered like that. y r there so many horses going to mexico and to Canada? It's because of the ban U slapped on. At least when those horses were being slaughtered in the states U had a little more control! But as soon as The ban was placed this happened. Not to mention the amount of horses being slaughtered has now nearly doubled. Because the base value of the horse has been destroyed. Was the ban a god fix? Logic tells me no it wasn't.
It's easy for us to not like horse slaughter because we think of them as pets, but in reality its no different to how Indians don't like killing cows. Although I do think killing former pets is a bit mean.
I must ask the horse lovers out there to really ask yourself, is horse slaughter that bad? Let's consider the alternatives. Horses are expensive to care for, when you can't care for the horse anymore is it better to just euthanize it or let it starve to death? Really try to understand the industry, we aren't breeding horses for meat, but dealing with a situation that has only become worse due to the closure of the slaughter facilities.

The domestic horse slaughter plants should be reopened so that the horses do not have to go to a much worse death in other country. The closing of the slaughter markets has caused the horse prices to plummet and maid it nearly impossible to get a job in the horse industry. I should know, I have beed trying to get a job for over 3 years and am unable to. I am a certified equine assistant and currently going to school for veterinary technology and find it impossible to get a job involving horses.

Why stop? Why waste? Why take an animal who has givin you everything and not use his body in a way befitting a mans companion. I am against the way this is going about, with its cruel practices but the main idea of using everything of an animal is something I support. Weather its dog horse or cat I do think the proper way to treat an animal it to use it. Slaughter is needed. Yes, it is sad but if someone doesn't do it, they will become malnourished and die slowly in their paddocks. I know someone who is employed to put horses down and he really likes them. I love horses AND wish someone see this is wrong to do it inhumanely. It is needed, just not cruely.

horse slaughter is now legal again in the states. and i think it's a blessing for thousands of horses that have suffered from abuse. horse rescues are getting full, there simply isn'y enough money to care for every abandoned or abused animal. these horses can finally find peace, rather than continue to suffer if not able to find a home...the same happens to dogs and cats in shelters that cannot find homes. as a rider and a horse lover, i believe horse slaughter is acceptable.

It is not "horse lovers" that are doing this or that are Killing horses, it is breeders that are in it to make money. I am a horse lover, and have never bred my horses, and never will. I recently bought a ottb gelding from his breeder. He failed at racing and was sold dirt cheap because of it. They had over 50 horses at that farm, and were talking about breeding other breeds because they make more money these days. Its all about the money to them, not the horses.

Actually the double decker trailers were not outlawed in the US, they still use them. Just thought you should understand that fact. Also, Canada's transportation laws are more strict than American laws. We can use double deckers but it is frowned upon.

I have a neighbor that is a self proclaimed "horse breeder," she hasn't been able to sell a horse in 3 years and keeps breeding. Now she has like 12 horses that she doesn't have room for and can't afford to feed. You think she should even be allowed to own horses? Just irresponsible. Like beef, chicken, and pork, horses were meant for consumption. The meat is clean, and it provides excellent nutrient. Ok, i know that horses are pretty but if you eat meat at all. Cattle, fish, chicken, it doesnt matter. Unless you think that the value of life is based on your subjective standered of animal beauty then you should have nothing to say about horses being used as meat. In the wild they are hunted by predators,but in the USA they are in invasive species brought here by the spanish and have few predators. I have had horse before, it is closer to deer then beef.

Ok Elliexxjake, next time I know of a load of horses going to mexico I'll call you up. That will be 1000 dollars per horse, and 100 per month, per horse for as long as you own them to feed them. And when you cannot afford them anymore you will have to give them away to someone else that will "save" them because to get your 1000 dollars per horse back, you would have to send them to mexico, and you just couldn't handle that. When we were slaughtering in the US, the horses were put down with vet doctors. Horses were worth more money and not starved to death. They were not sent to mexico in cattle pods to have their necks sliced and bled out. Everyone that helped shut down the american horse slaughter houses helped to create more horse suffering and a decline of the value of the horses causing less people to care for the animals.

I must ask the horse lovers out there to really ask yourself, is horse slaughter that bad? Let's consider the alternatives. Horses are expensive to care for, when you can't care for the horse anymore is it better to just euthanize it or let it starve to death? Really try to understand the industry, we aren't breeding horses for meat, but dealing with a situation that has only become worse due to the closure of the slaughter facilities.

The domestic horse slaughter plants should be reopened so that the horses do not have to go to a much worse death in other country. The closing of the slaughter markets has caused the horse prices to plummet and maid it nearly impossible to get a job in the horse industry. I should know, I have beed trying to get a job for over 3 years and am unable to. I am a certified equine assistant and currently going to school for veterinary technology and find it impossible to get a job involving horses.

Why stop? Why waste? Why take an animal who has givin you everything and not use his body in a way befitting a mans companion. I am against the way this is going about, with its cruel practices but the main idea of using everything of an animal is something I support. Weather its dog horse or cat I do think the proper way to treat an animal it to use it. It works in life, and in death it will feed you, keep you warm and provide you with materials for tools and medicine. Baning that seems a waste

I know I'm gonna get cussed out 4 saying this, but oh well here it goes. WHAT IN SAM HELL DID YOU THINK WAS GONNA HAPPEN?. I mean you let some ass clown right a bill that let them shut u.s slaughter houses down. Well you know what? r the horses any better off? nope. There better of then being starved,but that'll be the next thing won't it? Stop them from shipping them to Mexico that will stop it. lol All people who fought to stop horse slaughter in the states should b ashamed of themselves!

This is sick sick sick! People who could do this are disgusting little Aholes who need to go die in a hole. Anyone who could possable eat horse meat are equal to ones who can kill these horses. I have saved 14 horses from slaughter, I wish I could save them all. But really if your going to kill a horse or any animal do it as you would want to be killed, I assume fast and painless. Also make there last few days alive like there not going to die. This video makes me outraged at the world.

I think this is sick sick sick!. These Aholes need to have what they do to horses done to them. Poeple are sick who could ever kill a horse, period. It should be illigal every where. People who eat horse meat are disgusting, nothing but trash to me. This makes me out raged, makes me want to kill these people. But really though, if your going to slaughter a horse or any animal, kill them as you would want to be killed, and let there last moments alive be as though they arent going to die.

Don't blame the people for doing this, they're not happy doing this. they're just trying to make an honest living, trying to feed their families and pay their mortage. do you think that they get well payed for doing this? its all well and good to make these horse slaughterers out to be Mr. Satan, but whose to blame for this industry, really? If you look at the facts that support horse processing IN America, then you will see how allowing it will stop the inhumane shipment and slaughter of these beautiful animals. If America were to allow it again, less stress would be put on the animal and America could regulate how the plants go about destroying the animal. How about looking at all of the facts.

because of the slaughter being stopped in the us horses are going to mexico at a larger rate now where they are not killed quickly or treated better. you people have created a worse environment for these horses now than they ever would have in the us.do you complain when pigs or chickens or cattle are slaughtered??? no because it's okay to eat them.most horses will suffer a worse death if they are not slaughtered because people can't afford to keep them or euthanize them.

to get this issue taken care of we need to take action and put these pictures and videos where people can see them and not hide from the truth or be in denial about it. Everyone watching these videos or similar ones, Join PETAs action team for free to take the next step and present to people in Demonstrations what is really going on! Slaughter is needed. Yes, it is sad but if someone doesn't do it, they will become malnourished and die slowly in their paddocks. I know someone who is employed to put horses down and he really likes them. I love horses AND wish someone see this is wrong to do it inhumanely. It is needed, just not cruely.
LOVE HORSES THEY WAY THEY LOVE YOU AND NEVER LET YOURS END THE SAME WAY
