allegory of the cave... very good though the basement door was closed, which i'm guessing is where the light path would have come from. we as passive observers ignorant of the truth one day and simply realized that by turning around and seeing that the shadows were caused by light emanating from behind them, which leads out into a whole other world. truth: shadows were caused by objects in the path of light.
