  • Ritchie Blackmore is GOD.

  • How boring can you get ¿ These dudes where no "Nice"_

By 1970 they got the groove.(but lost it very fast again).

Interesting footage though ; just to see this band searching for their muse.

  • blackmore and lord is the best duo for a jam sessions

  • THE BEST SWEEP PICKING EVER! SINCE 1969!!!!!

  • No One Compares to Ritchie!!!

    the MASTER!!!

  • 5 dislikes from Ian Gillan and Steve Morse and friends...jeje

  • Comment removed

  • @STRONTAGO Fans of Rory Gallagher are angry that they've come across a real guitar master (Blackmore), and a soul the size of Peter Green. Gallagher is the Irish version of Ted Nugent.

  • around 7.15 sounds like bach.

  • BLACKMORE is......NEXT TO NO ONE!!!!! who cares about the RnR Hall of Fame!!

  • Pretty rare flipping footage . This had to be only a few months after Roger and Big Ian joined .

  • uffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff,brilliant

  • WOW!

  • Ritchie Blackmore one of the first rock wizards on guitar. -- Do you have a piece of his guitar any where? ---Ouch! ...Do you know what I mean <------

  • Holy shit! Ritchie playin' amazing things this early. He's a god.

Why people throw crap to Jimmy page, he's gOod too. Nah. Jimmy is god too.

  • @Edellakavija

    HE was 24 y o

  • @Edellakavija yes, comparing musicians is pure bullshit it makes no sense at all...RB was into classical and hard rock while JP was into the blues and some many different guitar styles...

  • This is awesome.

  • Meh...it's OK. *dies of grooviness*

  • Thats why his name is Page. You always want to turn it.

  • 5:45 Jon Lord is Lord...

  • this guys were on their 19 or 20's at the time and came out with the best classic rock.......LONG LIVE DEEP PURPLE!!!!!

  • Lord is fantastic.!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn.

  • Fucking Epic

  • fantastico

  • It wasn't stolen. He lost it to his first wife in their divorce. Her name was Inga or Gretchen I believe. She's german. Back then thats all Ritchie cared about was germany and german women with big tits. He always scored.

  • Pace and Glover... tight and cool.

  • The reason Ritchie went to playing Strats was because his 335 got stolen and since that guitar was his baby, he never wanted to replace it with another.

  • We are talking about a guitar player who felt he was cheating with a Gibson E335, and to switch to a Fender Strat. If I had this footage available to my Randy Rhodes/Yngwie Malmsteen fans in the mid 80's, I would've won the argument I already knew. Yet I didn't get "feel" until I heard Peter Green. That's ok, EC, Page, Beck, and the rest don't get it either.

  • greatest solo

  • Wow! Blackmore was fucking bad ass for 1969. Fret sweeping like that was waay after that time lol the church must have hated that guy lol. Right freaking awesome. This performance blew me away! Blackmore is a legend!

  • Great!!!... Wooo!!!ç

    Fuckin´ viedo colection

    Saludos Desde Mexicooo!!

  • :/ bilzen fest to max

  • Too bad the festival stopped, I live in Bilzen and I would love to have been there, sadly i was born 21 years too late.

  • VOX amplifier... only for hammond organ!!!!!

  • VOX amplifier... only for hammond organ

  • What about that Ritchie sweeping his ass off in 1969? at least 15 years before Malmsteen got famous for doing it? What about the fusion jazz licks? almost 20 years before Frank Gambale?

  • It is obvious that Ritchie already started sweeping before Yngwie experienced his first encounter with the guitar. And Django Reinhardt already swept before Ritchie's first encounter with the guitar.

  • that is a wicked vibrato and very impressive sweep picking...

  • In 40 years that I've been following Deep Purple I've never seen Ritchie play as tight and fast as on this track. I don't think he's ever excelled himself beyong this break-neck speed precision. Absolutely amazing..., can hardly believe my eyes..., his fingers move as fast as the flutter of a butterfly's wings!

  • They still talk about this festival untill today...

Jazz Bilzen. Thats why parents said to the childeren:

"Jazz is bad for you it will keep you from church."

  • essa formação é a mais perfeita que ja esxistiu ...abrigado deep purple

  • Five stars!!!!!!

  • Ritchie Blackmore's tone sounds so perfect, does anybody know what his setup is?

Also, really weird to see him without a strat

  • @thomasjeeh and what about Lord playing hammond?

  • @thomasjeeh Most likely the Gibson straight into a Marshal (if he used Marshals back then) cranked up very loud. On the concerto for group and orchestra album, he said that he used a small Vox amplifier.

  • Awesome.

  • BLACKMORE RAPID! AMAZING! MOTHERFUCKIN' ROD EVANS VALE CALLOMPA

  • i have been watching some of these videos of older and and the guitar rarely smiles but he does in this one. i wonder if he was mad about his life

  • wow these guys were monster musicians

  • blackmore happy! :D

  • Damn, I didn't know Blackmoore was that fast.

  • Ritchie got all whatever guitar techniques said in rock guitar lesson.

  • I'd sure like to have one of Ritchies vintage Marshalls. I wonder if he kept any from that era?

It's obvious from this video why Ritchie made the switch to the Stratocaster. It was the guitar that made his style and sound more of what he wanted.

    Cheers.

  • Jon: the Lord of hammond's, Blackmore is the master, the genius, God of guitar.....

  • I like Ritchie with a Gibson, !!!!!

  • HeAvEn !!!!

  • to seventiesclassic

matter of taste, said the dog and his ass licked

  • most people say that Richie is one horrible and annoying person, actor on stage, egocentric freak...you can hate him but he is just king of kings master of masters god of gods...Hendrix and Clapton started the whole thing...Master Blackman give it pure magic and cosmic touch of one simple six string instrument called guitar...absolute ruler Tirane and dictator self proclaimed god Richie Blackmore

  • Following years Blackmore played much slowlier which was much better (and is much harder). - cool footage though.

  • Comment removed

  • Ritchie Blackmore wears the big boy panties. Simply untouchable !!

  • This rips!

  • OMG whatta great music....why the hell I wasn't born before gaga and lilly and all of hat nowdays crap ,that tops the charts and polutes the speakers of my stereo...

  • I bet Jimmy Page cried when he heard this ! :)

  • @andrija015

Jimmy Page is a fucking great guitarists like Blackmore, but why would he cry?

  • Funny how the non Blackmore fans comment yet they watch because deep down they know.

  • Tasty.

  • No wonder that Deep Purple got so big, with Blackmore, Lord and Paice they were one of the best technical rock bands of their time.

  • Brilliant.

  • una d mys mejores bandas de todos los tienpos...///////////

  • Such a cool band. Ritchie looks so young and innocent here.

  • Hey 300 bpm generation...learn right here how to play guitar....and HOW TO PLAY ORGAN/keyboards in a Rock Band!

Blackmore is a guitar genius, even my cat and my little dog knows that, but what Jon Lord did here -with pedals too (!!) ...well, no words to describe!!... Thanks Mr. ritchierod for the post!

PS. of course no two hands tapping and other kind of masturbation on guitar - thanks again! =)

  • 06:38 = Pictures Of Home =)

Why can't we just accept that all musicians are great in their own way! No one is better than the other, ok?

    R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio

  • Talk? LISTEN!!!

  • Brilliant

  • GREAT

    I appreciate a lot

Thank you very much for posting

  • seventiesclassic.. It's just that word "Better" that you keep using... don't you understand that music is not a competition? The anger is merely brought about by frustration, that's all. Page did some unbelievable music as did Blackmore, only Page wasn't the technical gymnast that Blackmore was. What about Page's solo on Since I've been lovin you?

  • monote musik

  • i love the way Ritchie Blackmore plays guitar and rest of band back him . And do their own solos .Band was just about in peask form then .

Aint seen this one befrore thanks for posting.

  • Hi Guys ... please, let's speak about music only. Us keep on calm. My best Regards to All and that the great Purple Friend Ronnie Dio rests in peace. We Rock !

  • @seventiesclassic, Not only are you a deaf fucking idiot... you're a patronizing fucking idiot also. I make an intelligent observation of your comment and you come back with stuff like a 10 year old would. If you're a guitar player you must be a fucking hack if you can't tell that both Blackmore and Page are both incredible players in their own right! And that music is not an Olympic sport... it's fucking ART DICKHEAD!!

  • @yellingelk

    I don't even warrant a reply...so you post 2 !! lol

I issued a challenge..one you obviously can't rise to...show me Page playing better than this.

    P.S. Why the anger ?

  • @seventiesclassic, you don't even warrant a reply... cause' you're obviously just a fucking idiot... and a deaf one at that!

  • So much talent in 1 band..no wonder they ruled the rock world for a few years !

  • damn, jon lord was destroying that keyboard!!!!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you for this.

  • thank u ritchierod, i be burning this vid to my collec.. peace

  • Love watching Ian Paice. total concentration, total commitment. go Ian

  • I am trippin' out on the sweep picking Ritchie did here! I don't think I have ever seen him do that before. Also, this is the best soloing I have ever seen by him. Wow!!! This is awesome stuff!

  • WOWW!!!!

  • I think Blackmore was trained as a classical Guitarist

  • Rod Evans back there

  • @JDJWJB

No, not Rod Evans, Ian Gillan.

  • @JDJWJB Nope....that's Gillan. He and Glover were a matched set.

  • I hate that camera i tell my wife and she´ll be back

  • Get my vote for best band ever. . .There's nothing I'd rather listen to.

  • Before Van Halen,Schenker,Malmsteen, before the fusion greats of the '70's and '80's...there was Ritchie Blackmore. Look at the early sweep technique at 3:15. Truth is, quite often, someone probably did it before and we're just now seeing it. That's why we all need to learn from history...

  • JIMMY PAGE will cried when he see this!!!

  • Watching this just makes you realise that Page isn't fit to clean Ritchie's boots.

  • Amen!

  • @seventiesclassic, That is an outrageous comment, Page and Blackmore are two entirely different players with two entirely different approaches. You can't tell me that Page's playing didn't have its own color, the perfect color that is, for Zeppelin! When people bother to actually compare players of this calibre it makes me wonder if they have ever understood or appreciated either player.

  • @yellingelk

OK show me Page playing anything as good as this and I'll apologise..until then...shut up !

  • @yellingelk

I just noticed what you said...Page and Blackmore are 2 entirely different players...really?...and there was me thinking they one and the same person...shucks....another myth destroyed.

  • @seventiesclassic

Page did great in his early days just listen to Led Zeppelin jamming to As Long As I Have You...

  • @LinkBulletBill

No thanks, I'd sooner have a tooth pulled without anaesthetic.

Ritchie has been great since the beginning, not just in his early days !

  • @seventiesclassic

Page was great in the begging, but then at 1973... It went all falling down... Because of heroin... I blame him for taking it, but blame the heroin for ruining his skills, but he seriously had skill before the heroin-use. Ritchie was more classical and jazz trained, while Jimmy was more folk and spanish trained, but both were influenced by that rockabilly and the blues... Too bad his spanish training went to the trash after that heroin-use... Only the early outtakes showed it.

  • @LinkBulletBill You mean "Since I've Been Loving You"? Another rip-off of Peter Green with Fleetwood Mac.

  • Obrigado, gracias, thanks, mercy beaucoup, danke, shukran, falemenderit.....Ritchierod ! Great fella!

  • wow

  • This is called "Exposition" from The Book of Taleesyn album. From the Rod Evans, Nicky Simper period. They probably hadn't written any of the In Rock tunes yet. The Jon Lord classical compostion/album "Live with the London Philharmonic" 1969 was the first Deep Purple LP to feature Ian Gilian and Roger Glover. In Rock followed in 1970.

    btw... AWESOME THANKS!!

  • Can someone please tell me what MK ll is?

  • That would be Deep Purple MKII: Ian Paice, Jon Lord , Ritchie Blackmore, Roger Glover (new bass) and Ian Gillan new vocals). Some hate em, I love ALL the DP incarnations....Stil I think I love the MKI config the best; they were the first inkling (to me) of what real hard rock or metal could be. Got to think back on the other crap that was going down back in 66-67 when these guys landed!

  • @kingofthedeep MK II (mark 2) just refers to this being the second lineup. MK I (the original lineup) had Simper on bass and Evans on vocals. Story goes.. Blackmoore kicked them out and got GIllan and Glover to join.

  • @lordfluxington

and that was his best decision ever ...

  • 1 night to remember indeed! a lot of fun to in Bilzen that time...

  • I got a chance to see and play that guitar at a Los Angeles guitar show about 5 years ago. a piece of history.

  • only one band can play this...: the dp!

  • lots of nonsens phrases from Blackmore

  • I didn't think so.

  • man...ritchie is good here..

  • good....ahahah...Ritchie here simply show he is the best guitar player of his time...

  • Is this available anywhere? Gotta be a DVD of this whole show SOMEwhere I can wear out!!

And yes, Ian Paice made this band work, with all respect to the others; I love Palmer, Bruford, and Peart, but the madness of the constant improvisation would have had them pulling their hair out. Paice just said, "Just SEE if you can leave me behind!"

  • Comment removed

  • Re: Ian Paice remark from misteraytch: I concur!!!!!!

  • I am a drummer but WHAT IAN PAICE DOES IN THIS SONG IS JUST AWESOME!!!INCREDIBLE!!!

  • 1969. And that time mister Paice was just only 21 years young. Amazing, huh.

  • I think he was 19 here...

  • Ian's awesome, and I think he likes Buddy Rich just a little - and Louie Bellson too

  • The 335 was discarded because it was too hard to keep in tune; I think the neck was prone to warping. (I think I read that in a Guitar Player interview with Ritchie a LONG time ago!!)

  • So Damn Good!!! Hearing this makes you wonder... What on earth made him replace his 335 with a strat?

  • long live D.P.

  • 03:15 sweeppicking?:O

  • I think I feel a seizure coming on!

  • Left without words. Man, this is amazing !

  • I'm speechless. Just awesome!

  • I have been listening Purple almost 35 years, this is their best so far

  • Blackmore invented sweep-picking in rock music. Go to 3:13 - 3:25 and you will see who everyone is copying from nowadays. Simply the best: Ritchie Blackmore

  • @patrickmichels: Blackmore invented sweep-picking in rock music.

    Invented??

  • @patrickmichels

Bahahahaha! Invented? HAHAHAH! Sweep picking? Listen to one particular performance by King Cat Cole performing Nature Boy, look at the guitarist, he sweeps, and hell even before there was sweep picking...

  • @patrickmichels nel antes que blackmore fue ALVIN LEE informate carnal

  • @patrickmichels

    I do agree with you

  • no this is simply deep purple! astonishing musicians which could play anything with their own style...ian paice and blackmore impress me so much in this video...genius!

  • in my opinion this is ...HARD ROCK ..of the finnest ...this is not jazz or blues,it maybe sounds like that in couple of moments but that´s just because of briliant musicans,it´s called improvisation guys...that´s what some people can not understand ...LOL

  • This is not hard rock or heavy metal!

This is jazz, Bach and Rock and roll played really hard and fast.

It has more to do with ELP, Yes and things like that, than with Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath.

An influence to bands like Dream Theater rather than Metallica.

  • This isn't jazz as well as ELP, Yes and Dream Theater aren't jazz, they are Progressive. This sounds like a speeded up blues-rock in my opinion. You know, DP are always cited with Zeppelin and Sabbath because of its MKII work, after the release of Machine Head, they never played again songs before In Rock, great songs btw, to me "Deep Purple 1969" is a very underrated album.

  • what the hell ru talking about ????

  • Deep Purple, the father's of Hard Rock

  • deep purple lo mejor de la historia del rock!!!!!!!

  • song is called Hard Road/Wring that Neck from the MK I era

  • Ready when you are Mr Vertical...now what shall we call it?;-) see you at the next rehearsal mate!

  • Great video! Mr Ritchie on a Gibbo.... Fingers, you sound just like me.... maybe we could form a band!!

  • What can I say? Grew up with them, worshipped them all (Mk2), still do! Probably the best band in the world (with a few exceptions maybe!) doing things in the 60's and 70's that others would try to emulate badly in the 80's and 90's. Richie you are the reason I picked up the guitar, love your tone and above all your technique. I only wished you'd come off the bloody medieval trip and play decent rock music again. Come on you moody bugger!

  • The Best ,The Firs,t The Last, Deep Purple!!!

The Group With The Most Talented Musicians, The First True Heavy Metal Band, The Last to leave pure true rock on this earth, Led Zeppelin???? HAHAHAHAHAHAH Deep Purple was the Very best.

  • You're totally right. DP has never got the cred they deserve. Led Zep is allways spoken of as the first heavy rock band. theyre nothing but a bluesband.

    DP owns them(teenager talk)

  • of course man c'mon DP had the best C'mon Zep wish they had Lord and Pace and c'monnnn!!!! Don't even dare to compare the Maestro Blackmore to Page!!!! guitarists shouldn't be compared theay are all great but c'mon thats Ritchie Blackmore. Lord???? c'mon Paul Johnes doesn't have a chance, at least Wakeman or Emerson. Pace would have competition with Bonham and Gillan can hit higher notes than Plant. :)

  • Oh. Fuck. Look at mister Ian Paice right hand's grip at 07:30. I never seen before he uses that "classic" grip ever. I thought he is only march grip guy :). AMAZING.

  • MaTched grip vs traditional grip. Not marched. For example, Buddy Rich's always use traditional grip as I know.

  • Oopps. You can see mister Buddy Rich here: watch?v=pNhnioNNIPI

  • As a Influence on Ian's drimming?

  • I think this one is in the new deep purple dvd highlights, almost nothing new in that dvd...

  • Ritchie is king,Clapton is paperboy at that time.

Geef mij maar een West Malle triple. Proost

  • u just can´t compare clapton to blackmore ..!!ritchie is too good ..end of the story...hh

  • Look at RB go man...he created raking and burning up the frets

  • toygear. no flo. ZzZzz

  • its OK if you cant feel this kind of music....

but pls.. can you give a respect to the artist!

DP was the great bands in the world, they had so many influence in this world even today.

  • deep purple is a demonic force. dont play it to your children, youll curse them!! My knowledge is divine, behold.

  • I heard Jon Lord is out touring again with special guests. Anybody have any info?

  • erano già i deep devastanti ... grandi...
