I love George's show. My favourite show on the radio.
I can see why 6music fans are annoyed by his very presence on their station, but I only started listening to 6music properly after discovering The George Lamb show and now I love 6muisc.
Surely if he's getting people into good music he can't be all bad?

You are completely wrong, betaemote. I think the GL show is incredibly refreshing, and I don't usually like that sort of thing. And I was mainly a Radio 4 listener. I would rather hear an hour of George than a minute of self-important music bores such as Jo Whiley or the appalling Steve Lemacq. Actually I think George is too good for 6Music, so we make the most of him while we can.

Well I suppose you have a point bladant because apart from GL I only listen to Shaun Keaveney on 6Music. Then again I don't limit myself by judging an entire station as 'right' or 'wrong' in the way that you do. I like all sorts of things as even betaremote has noticed. And if GL is not in the right place then why is he getting such a great audience reponse ? You try getting an e-mail read out on the show.
i have had an email read out on the show, before i knew who he was!!! lol mark i am an open minded guy, i like to listen and watch and read all kinds of different things, but what i loved abt 6music wsas that it played graet music that i would never here on any other station, coupled with intelligent knowledgable talk. if lamb just showed more interest in the music and didnt play shabba's over songs and all the rest of it maybe he wouldnt be getting all this crap!!

What's wrong with Hollyoaks or DOND ? You don't seem to understand that people might not share your own tastes which apparently begin and end with Depeche Mode. Also it's interesting that you use words like simile but have not yet mastered the shift key.

The fact is that I've proved you wrong simply by liking the GL show, contrary to the foul-mouthed assertions made by you in the first instance. Why don't you go away and add a remark for the one video you do appear to like, and therefore double the number of comments it has attracted since it was posted all those months ago.
If you dislike Lamb, you don't have to listen. If you see him on any form of media, you can turn it off or change the channel. Further more you don't have to log on to youtube to watch the advert, then spend your time whingeing on online petitions and facebook sites about how much of a twat you think he is. If you feel so strongly write a letter to Douglas voicing your opinions, a dozen bags of snail mail in her office will be far more constructive than an online petition.

The music-loving elite does not have the right to take precedent those it considers inferior. We cannot all be duffers, though there is a place for that and long may it continue. Have a look at the track-listings for the show over the last few weeks. Check out the new bands in the hub sessions that are featured on the show....or don't they count???? It is not for me to catagorise the listener, however, i would like to think that in all my years as someone who is passionate about music, that i have learnt not to pre-judge the very follower/creator of the types of music i love. Individuality is the key. And liking/disliking George seperates us, yet unites us. I am pleased that you have a fire in your belly, but i feel that the manner in which the campaign is executed is wholly illmannered.

i really wonder what gives all you 'lambhaters' out there the right to start casting aspersions on the taste/humour credentials of people who choose to enjoy something that you don't agree with. Fair enough if you disagree with the content of the show..luckily we live in a democracy so you can trot off and listen to something else..or put your ipods on..but please try to keep a level of civility within your argument. Calling someone an 'abortion' or other such profanities smacks of desperation.
What gives us the right to criticise is that his show is a fat turd sat in the middle of a niche station for people who are really passionate about music; a station for which there is no daytime alternative . what is the point of having all these 'new bands' on his show when half the time Mr lamb has no idea who they are & therefore cant even conduct an normal interview. Its supposed to be an alternative - 'all about the music'!! LOL (paid for by license fee!) not fucking capital FM. He struggle to get on that to be fair.

You are completely wrong, betaemote. I think the GL show is incredibly refreshing, and I don't usually like that sort of thing. And I was mainly a Radio 4 listener. I would rather hear an hour of George than a minute of self-important music bores such as Jo Whiley or the appalling Steve Lemacq. Actually I think George is too good for 6Music, so we make the most of him while we can.

Well I suppose you have a point bladant because apart from GL I only listen to Shaun Keaveney on 6Music. Then again I don't limit myself by judging an entire station as 'right' or 'wrong' in the way that you do. I like all sorts of things as even betaremote has noticed. And if GL is not in the right place then why is he getting such a great audience reponse ? You try getting an e-mail read out on the show.

i have had an email read out on the show, before i knew who he was!!! lol mark i am an open minded guy, i like to listen and watch and read all kinds of different things, but what i loved abt 6music wsas that it played graet music that i would never here on any other station, coupled with intelligent knowledgable talk. if lamb just showed more interest in the music and didnt play shabba's over songs and all the rest of it maybe he wouldnt be getting all this crap!!

If you dislike Lamb, you don't have to listen. If you see him on any form of media, you can turn it off or change the channel. Further more you don't have to log on to youtube to watch the advert, then spend your time whingeing on online petitions and facebook sites about how much of a twat you think he is. If you feel so strongly write a letter to Douglas voicing your opinions, a dozen bags of snail mail in her office will be far more constructive than an online petition.

Have a look at the track-listings for the show over the last few weeks. Check out the new bands in the hub sessions that are featured on the show....or don't they count???? It is not for me to catagorise the listener, however, i would like to think that in all my years as someone who is passionate about music, that i have learnt not to pre-judge the very follower/creator of the types of music i love. Individuality is the key. And liking/disliking George seperates us, yet unites us. I am pleased that you have a fire in your belly, but i feel that the manner in which the campaign is executed is wholly illmannered.

But i was annoyed at the manner of the ALB's comments. Personal defermation is not nice. I merely insisted on redressing the balance. And, as for 6music's remit, well, i for one was gutted when Andrew Collins left, but i realised that people and times change. therefore, i would like to think that 6music is a station that is willing to use a broader forum to bring listeners in, who may then attempt a more niche show in the future. I hope i will never be a music facist.

If rather than telling people who don't agree with you that they shouldn't voice their opinion, you actually had some kind of rational argument about why George Lamb's Timmy Mallet impression is suitable for a station with 6music's remit, I'd be fascinated to hear it.

...and that is my very point...well illustrated.....you have your own sites/petitions etc. you also have the big forum of 'drowned in sound' (nudge nudge) to voice your opinion. What i suggested on the pro-lamb facebook sites was that, in order to make you realise that yours is not the only opinion, that we, the opposition, should be more vocal, bearing in mind that you are able to drum up your own small yet militant band of followers.

And there are plenty of other places for shit shows to go. There's only one station with 6music's remit (why not inform your opinions and read it), and George's show does not fit it.

I'm struggling to understand how disliking George Lamb is killing any whales. You could argue that indulging in music, radio, or any cultural/leisure activity - including posting on youtube or listening to c86 tapes - is worthless compared with a lifetime devoted to social issues - but that would be jejuene. What gives us the right to criticise is that his show is a fat turd sat in the middle of a niche station for people who are really passionate about music; a station for which there is no daytime alternative . I'm aware he's all the over the media in one form or another, but I don't bother to complain about that: eg, Strictly Come Dancing is vacuous fool-fodder, popular with fools with a taste for the vacuous, and I expect to find the fool making his vacuous comments there. But not on 6music.

I, like many, used to listen to 6 all day. Now I feel that I would rather gouge out my own kidneys with my nan's false teeth than endure one minute of Lamb's moronic non-music based drivel. Douglas must have a deep-seated unconscious grudge against something regarding the station (men?) to wilfuly destroy all that so many - with true passion, Lesley - worked so hard to build.
She certainly seems to have thrown the pram out with the toys, and shat on the lot.
