Don't know alot of places that you can drive like that in the U.S . Love the car but I like to chill and listen to the stereo with the top down. Not going to happen in this. Love the style looks awesome but I need more practical. I'm getting old. lol
It had a "souped up" VW aircooled beetle engine with dual Dellorto carbs and a lightened flywheel. Not a lot of power but the Spyder only weighs about 1200 pounds so it spooled up nicely.
i want one of these so bad, i think i'm going to look into getting one once i get my truck payed off, i think yours sounds great and who cares how accurate it is as long as it makes you happy
I'm sorry man, the son of a bitch comment was out of jealousy. I wasn't serious. BTW thats what a 550 should sound like, the Subaru turbo powered ones sound aweful.
fake Spyder- a Porsche's key ignition is always to the left of the steering wheel- from the days of Lemans where a pilot could save time by placing his right hand on the gearshift and his left hand to turn the key at the start of a race- nice try buddy
Of course it is a fake, the description states that it is a Beck Spyder replica. By the way the real Spyder has the ignition key to the right of the steering wheel, just like the replica. Nice little story you made up though.
If you wanted to point out discrepancies - for whatever reason - I would have picked the VW wipers and turn signal assembly, or perhaps the Speedster windshield.
Right on dougbok. What pleasure does giant71 get from panning an admitted replica and then erroneously attributing to it discrepancies that do not exist. If you watch the documentaries on Automotive Legends, one of the co-founders attests that it is not his goal to produce a down-to-the-last detail copy. It's his goal to follow the spirit of the original and make the copy safer and slightly more livable.
Thanks Moosey1789 for your comment. My reply to giant71 was done without much thought and I regretted coming back in such a high handed manner. When I reread my comments I cringed. Perhaps giant71 was just having some fun and ultimately that is what it is about.
Check out the original ignition location at the end of this video:
Real porsche 550 spyder Le Mans Preperation
And note that dougbok is correct. The key goes on the right. The 911s have them on the right as an apparent homage to that idea but perhaps they are the fakes.
I meant the 911s have them on the *left* to pay homage to the idea of starting the engine faster when drivers had to run the cars, but as you can see, the 550 had the ignition on the right . . .
Beautiful car, great video. Sounds and goes just right !

Where can I find information about building a replica like this? Unfortunately old Beetles are getting thin on the ground in UK / Ireland.

I prefer a big block v8, this car is a expensive toy, james Dean wouldnt kill himself in a real car

I'd rather have a repo and save the rest of the money. Nice car.

I'd rather have a ride in a real one than own a fake, but not a lot of million dollar cars running around...
