  • I love the Plot Point, and the best part about it is that after you finish it, you're not really done. If the table likes their characters and wants to continue, then the plot point you just played was just the first movie in a serial series.

  • I started a game last week using this setting. It rocks! Loads of fun.

  • Cool game setting, Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon are classic.

  • I love connecting with like-minded people. Add me!

  • toolkits

  • I can see a valkry fetish coming about. Look at what you've started!

  • Kurt, I've seen this review and bought the game and keep coming to this review because you're so enthusiastic about it. It's the same with The Savage World of Solomon Kane. Bought it, been playing it, and love to see your review of it. It really shows you enjoy the Savage Worlds system and its settings.

  • Sounds fun. You could run a Fear Agent conversion!

  • I love about the dominating women, that falls away into mumbling.

  • Great review, Kurt. I've only recently gotten into Savage Worlds through Solomon Kane, and have been looking at their Science Fiction settings, but I was a bit iffy about whether Slipstream would be for me. But being a huge Farscape fan myself, hearing you say that this book could do that, I'm probably going to pick it up.

I don't suppose you could review the Toolkits for Savage Worlds, though? I'm very interested in those and I'd like to hear your thoughts.

  • I still want to pick this up. This will probably be my next Savage Worlds purchase. I've already bought Deadlands: Reloaded, Pirates of the Spanish Main and Sundered Skies and I love them all.

Savage Worlds has really won me over.

  • by the way love the sonic screwdriver in 91/92

  • savage worlds is rapidly becoming my favorite gaming publisher.

  • Thank you, I was looking for some Sci Fi Pulp RPGs. After your review I bought Spirit of the Century. Can you suggest any more games like these?

  • Very nice review. I was on the fence about Slipstream but now I'll check it out when I'm done with my current game.

If I may make a request: please review the Mouse Guard RPG! You weren't sure what to do with Burning Wheel? This strips it down to the essentials to the point where it is suitable for first-time roleplayers. Plus it is just a gorgeous product. I would love to hear your thoughts on it and give it some more exposure. Thanks Kurt!

  • Thanks Kurt for this review, its nice to see someone else who loves the savage worlds system as well. I love the science fantasy aspect of this. I like your reviews because the reviews of the products also provide some ideas for adding elements of your take on things to our games. Sometimes it gives a better take on stuff. How about a quick video not about a product per say but a quick dust up of Game Mastering.

  • hey i have been watching for quite a while, and i wish you did a episode every day...or even a couple a day. i know that is really possible, but you always give such good advice and i can tell you really love roll playing...i wish i had a few guys like that around here...no group at the moment...so i live vicariously through your broadcasts...

  • i would definately like more episodes, i want to see anima beyond fantasy reviewed. great review, enjoyable as always!

  • I'll second that, as I own it and woudl like to see what Kurt thinks about the "funky 20" engine the game has, that I find... an interesting take of the whole d20 mess.

  • It's nice to see the Kurt we all know and love back.

I wonder if Kurt likes the burning wheel system, because Burning empires I know he didn't like, but he might like Mouse Guard.

  • Mouse Guard is a GREAT game.

  • i did not know they made a mouse guard game...that could be cool, what kind of a system does it run off of?

  • A very interesting take on the D6: binary results... Either YES or NO.

4, 5 and 6 all stand for YES.

1, 2 and 3, ah the infamy they are NOes and the NOes are COWARDS/Traitors in game terms (and people who like the comic book will recognize that last epithet).

You use a dice pool and aim for a target number. That's it. So, it's its very own system, yet quite familiar to player with a bit of experience.

I'll leave Kurt to review it, yet let it be said... It's a fantastic game.

  • thats neat, i actually have played a game similar to that, at least where combat was similar to that. sounds neat...who publishes it?

  • It's by Luke Crane and David Petersen (the writer/artist/creator of Mouse Guard), and published by Archaia Studios Press.

You can also get it as a download (as I did) from rpgnow.

  • Sound quality is bad.

  • another savage world's setting....plz god, make it stop!

  • It may not be everyone's cup of tea but I'm glad to see his Savage Worlds reviews. Kurt seems to like SW a lot and actually turned me on to the game which is now one of my favorites.

  • not sure if you have covered the army of darkness rpg, but id love to see a review of it!

  • See Episode #27

  • He has. Episode 27.

  • Yes, Kurt reviewed the Army of Darkness RPG back in episode #27. Check it out!

  • Cool cool

  • Wow. you really make me want to go out and get this setting. very nice review.

  • Just a bug report, but you has almost no left speaker audio.

  • The audio is only coming out of one side.

  • the last few he has done have been like that for me too.

  • I got the same problem too. The beginning and end music is stereo but Kurt's dialog only comes from the left speaker.

  • Sorry, stuff happens when your in a hurry. I've been thinking about changing from a weekly to bi-weekly or monthly schedule, what do you all think? Better quality or more episodes?

    Rob

    Producer

  • You always do great work with your episodes and I would appreciate more episodes personally. :)

  • Me, I'd prefer to learn about more games, or go in depth with some of them, than worry about the quality so much. Don't outpace yourself, though!

  • More episodes.

  • I hate to rush and quality over quantity is nice, but bi-weekly is the outer limit. We all love you Kurt, but if you switch to monthly start to get a little... crazy. Pleas don't go monthly...

  • Bad Idea,

And I've already had a chat with one Company about sending Kurt more Games ; )

  • MORE episodes, definitely.

If more depth is required/desired, then do tow-parters.

  • @pugknowspro i could live with bi-weekly, but i'd rather go for a swim in the gulf of mexico than have to wait a whole month for another episode...

  • That's awesome, my players have been nagging about a light sci-fi game, Thanks

  • Hey Kurt! What do you think about converting Slipstream to 4th Ed. D&D? (Ducks for cover.)

  • you will get raped by great cthuhlu!

  • I'm not really into that japanese thing

  • I think it would take forever >;)

  • Good to hear that pulp science fiction is still being made :) Anyone actually try Savage World with a group? How did it go?

  • It plays great, once people get the hang of it!

  • I'm currnently running Savage Worlds with my group using the Sundered Skies setting. It is a lot of fun and the rules are refreshingly quick and easy to move through and we are looking forward to the next session. Savage Worlds has become one of my favorite game systems now.

  • My group was instantly hooked after one session. We've played a lot of rpg's over the years. Savage Worlds is by far our favorite.

  • Awesome as always Kurt, good job.

  • I'm having a hard time deciding whether to pick up Slipstream or Deadlands Reloaded as my next Savage Worlds purchase. Both are awesome settings that would be a ton of fun to play. My only disappointment is that I won't be able to buy them soon as my gaming budget just took a big plunge.

  • Is there a set of Savage Worlds core rules, or could you play using only this book?

  • There is a core rule book which is required to play this or any other Savage Worlds setting. The most recent edition of the core book is called the "Explorer's Edition" and only costs $10.

  • in fact, The Savage World of Solomon Kane can be played without the core book cause it also has all the rules

  • Not liking Traveller Kurt?

  • Slipstream is my second favorite Savage setting (after Deadlands). Like you said, it is just FUN!

  • Nth!

good to see things went back to normal. Good review.

  • I've been looking for something like this for quite some time. The only problem is that I'm not a big fan of Savage's mechanics... :/

  • I love Savage World's mechanic. I find if facilitates distinctive character roleplaying and fast combat. In particular I love how you reduce an enemy combatant's effectiveness by injuring them, rather than them being at full strength until you've killed them. So there isn't an overwhelming necessity to focus fire one enemy at a time. So you can actually engage all the enemy forces rather than focus firing one at a time like in D&D for example.

  • One thing I like is the initiative system, which is a good approximation of the chaos of combat. Dexterity is a poor measure of initiative, because it is not the quickest reflexes that are successful in combat but the quickest minds.

Anyway, if you don't like the system you can always convert it to one you like. FATE (found in Spirit of the Century) may be a good one for this type of game.

  • Great video Kurt, keep it up. May give this game a try :)
