I love the Plot Point, and the best part about it is that after you finish it, you're not really done. If the table likes their characters and wants to continue, then the plot point you just played was just the first movie in a serial series.
Kurt, I've seen this review and bought the game and keep coming to this review because you're so enthusiastic about it. It's the same with The Savage World of Solomon Kane. Bought it, been playing it, and love to see your review of it. It really shows you enjoy the Savage Worlds system and its settings.
Great review, Kurt. I've only recently gotten into Savage Worlds through Solomon Kane, and have been looking at their Science Fiction settings, but I was a bit iffy about whether Slipstream would be for me. But being a huge Farscape fan myself, hearing you say that this book could do that, I'm probably going to pick it up.
I don't suppose you could review the Toolkits for Savage Worlds, though? I'm very interested in those and I'd like to hear your thoughts.
I still want to pick this up. This will probably be my next Savage Worlds purchase. I've already bought Deadlands: Reloaded, Pirates of the Spanish Main and Sundered Skies and I love them all.
Very nice review. I was on the fence about Slipstream but now I'll check it out when I'm done with my current game.
If I may make a request: please review the Mouse Guard RPG! You weren't sure what to do with Burning Wheel? This strips it down to the essentials to the point where it is suitable for first-time roleplayers. Plus it is just a gorgeous product. I would love to hear your thoughts on it and give it some more exposure. Thanks Kurt!
Thanks Kurt for this review, its nice to see someone else who loves the savage worlds system as well. I love the science fantasy aspect of this. I like your reviews because the reviews of the products also provide some ideas for adding elements of your take on things to our games. Sometimes it gives a better take on stuff. How about a quick video not about a product per say but a quick dust up of Game Mastering.
hey i have been watching for quite a while, and i wish you did a episode every day...or even a couple a day. i know that is really possible, but you always give such good advice and i can tell you really love roll playing...i wish i had a few guys like that around here...no group at the moment...so i live vicariously through your broadcasts...
I'll second that, as I own it and woudl like to see what Kurt thinks about the "funky 20" engine the game has, that I find... an interesting take of the whole d20 mess.
A very interesting take on the D6: binary results... Either YES or NO.
4, 5 and 6 all stand for YES.
1, 2 and 3, ah the infamy they are NOes and the NOes are COWARDS/Traitors in game terms (and people who like the comic book will recognize that last epithet).
You use a dice pool and aim for a target number. That's it. So, it's its very own system, yet quite familiar to player with a bit of experience.
I'll leave Kurt to review it, yet let it be said... It's a fantastic game.
It may not be everyone's cup of tea but I'm glad to see his Savage Worlds reviews. Kurt seems to like SW a lot and actually turned me on to the game which is now one of my favorites.
Sorry, stuff happens when your in a hurry. I've been thinking about changing from a weekly to bi-weekly or monthly schedule, what do you all think? Better quality or more episodes?
I hate to rush and quality over quantity is nice, but bi-weekly is the outer limit. We all love you Kurt, but if you switch to monthly start to get a little... crazy. Pleas don't go monthly...
I'm currnently running Savage Worlds with my group using the Sundered Skies setting. It is a lot of fun and the rules are refreshingly quick and easy to move through and we are looking forward to the next session. Savage Worlds has become one of my favorite game systems now.
I'm having a hard time deciding whether to pick up Slipstream or Deadlands Reloaded as my next Savage Worlds purchase. Both are awesome settings that would be a ton of fun to play. My only disappointment is that I won't be able to buy them soon as my gaming budget just took a big plunge.
There is a core rule book which is required to play this or any other Savage Worlds setting. The most recent edition of the core book is called the "Explorer's Edition" and only costs $10.
I love Savage World's mechanic. I find if facilitates distinctive character roleplaying and fast combat. In particular I love how you reduce an enemy combatant's effectiveness by injuring them, rather than them being at full strength until you've killed them. So there isn't an overwhelming necessity to focus fire one enemy at a time. So you can actually engage all the enemy forces rather than focus firing one at a time like in D&D for example.
One thing I like is the initiative system, which is a good approximation of the chaos of combat. Dexterity is a poor measure of initiative, because it is not the quickest reflexes that are successful in combat but the quickest minds.
Anyway, if you don't like the system you can always convert it to one you like. FATE (found in Spirit of the Century) may be a good one for this type of game.

thats neat, i actually have played a game similar to that, at least where combat was similar to that. sounds neat...who publishes it?
aderier 2 years ago
It's by Luke Crane and David Petersen (the writer/artist/creator of Mouse Guard), and published by Archaia Studios Press.
You can also get it as a download (as I did) from rpgnow.
