Russia is in good relations with practically every anti-American power, from North Korea to Iran to Venezuela. It supplies weapons to all fo them and beyond. It has built a nuclear reactor in Iran. Afghanistan is an international effort to assert a democratic government into a region controlled by muslim fanatics. I won't make any excuses for Iraq, however. Stop branding the US government as some evil machine looking for global domination. We've actually used our power a lot less than Britain did when it was on top.

The Soviet (aka Russian) government was responsible for the massacre of 40 million of its own citizens, it raped and pillaged Europe moreso than the Nazis on its march to Berlin. Let's honestly not compare track records here bud, Russia would lose horrifically.

I don't really think the Cold War ever end. It is just being "fought" differently. In the early 90s after the Soviet Union collapsed, NATO was suppose to be dismantled like the Warsaw Pact. Instead of NATO dismantling, they expended into the former Soviet republics and everything Russia does the United States feels like it has to comment or condemn. Republicans also still run their campaigns on "being tough with Russia." (like McCain did)

Russia has several problems now. First there is a serious decline in population and that will necessitate the influx of foreign labor. That will cause huge problems for Russia and the Russians. Second reliance upon exporting commodities and energy to the EU puts Russia at the mercy of EU economies and demands. Third, without the old satellite states Moscow is now close to its former enemies reach. It is not only Georgia who hate the Russians but also Poland, Hungry etc..

democracy is one of the worst ideas ever conceived. voters are forced into a series of compromises (voting district, then state) in order to elect someone whose position must be compromised with. if highly compromised 'representation' is not troublesome, then we must also point out that the positions a politician runs on Are Not necessarily what a politician actually works towards when elected. the real votes in america are made by interest groups.

Russia would be a threat if they wanted to threaten us. But they dont. Russia and the U.S. didnt use to be on the best of terms, but i think they are starting to get over it now. I think that Russia just wants to focus on THEIR economy, unlike the U.S. who likes to get involved in everyone elses economy.
