not sure if this has been mentioned in the video or comments but i just found out that when you use NETGEAR WNDR 3700 with a CLIENT BRIDGE.. the wndr3700 can't have wireless security....
ie. i need to expand my network to another side of the house... i bridged it to another router successfully.. but the router will NOT allow wireless security when you bridge (wireless repeater) your routers...
i wonder if i can flash the wndr3700 with dd-wrt? hmmmm
You are absolutely right. These people have no idea what you have experienced but I do. I hate this router. I have the 3800 and it no better. I'm not a newbie. I hate this. They advertise it like its so easy. Its not. Liars!!
How did you set up your router? When you said it doesnt work, does it mean the router itself wont turn on or something else? Have you tried connecting through LAN to see if you're just having a really bad interference in your home? It sjust weird cuz netgear already sent you a new router and still wont work.
I have had my 3700 for over a year now I first got the linksys e3000 and brought it back because it was so slow this router was a little buggy at first but way better than the e3000 in my use the usb hdd was faster and better the router was way faster and better signal in my house.
Ouch, two dead. Mine works well, but i'm still dissapointed. It's not as fast as it is touted to be, but much faster then the average 2.4GHz 802.11n. I have so far only reached 16MBs/128Mbs 5.2Ghz. But gigabit maxed out at 54MBs/432MBs, because of HDD.
this guy does not know how, stay away from the internet or pay some one who knows! I own one, easy to install, no problems at all, thumps up to net gear
Had 2 of these. The 3700 which I returned, and have the slightly newer N600, which is still a 3700. Same weak signal issue with both, but still very usable. No where near the upgrade I expected from a $170 router though. I will never go through this tech support stuff again. If you have a problem with something bought, return it to the store it as soon as possible and try a totally different brand of router. I wish I had. Not expecteding much from Netgear tech support and not mailing back.
Thanks for your review, anyone would think that any company in today's economy would make an effort to resolve defective product issues in order to maintain a positive sales flow, well they will not be getting my money. There are other fish in the pond.
Thanks for the video/review. I own one myself (I think it's a version 1.0) and right out of the box, the USB feature didn't work. Personally, I didn't care as I never planned on using it. However, after months of frustration in setting it up, it was shaky at best. Dropped internet connections, slow speed, you name it. Updated the firmware and things stabilized. Now, I'm using it on SBS 2011 and I'm struggling with it. Bottom line, I'm replacing it with a WatchGuard XTM22-W.
Considering all the problems you have had with this product and the diabolical customer service the MD should be doing the only decent thing and providing you a FOC unit and an apology, don't NETGEAR realize a poor review of their product will be a deterrent for many thinking of buying this unit, were this to be made by Apple you would be treated with the courtesy you deserve, i would email this video review to them and shame them into doing the right thing, good luck, mac
The lesson here folks is don't wait 3 months to open ANYTHING! The fact that most stores only have a 30 day return period is reason enough to find out right away if there's a problem. That way you can just send it back for a refund. Problem solved.
@jeffhanson1 The WNDR3400 is actually newer than the 3700. Amazon lists the 3700 as first being listed in 2004 and the 3400 listed on Amazon in 2010 - big difference. It's just that the 3400 isn't gigabit lan which isn't a big deal to me.
Thanks for the review RealRadio... I was going to spring for this router this weekend but I'm going to be steering clear. Going to look at Linksys systems.
Personally I was waiting around for the model with the adsl2+ modem built in. What are you connecting to? My last emergency replacement of a 2wire was a Wewoka switch. Replaced the phone side filter and fixed the problem up to the point of crapy 2wire performance. Much the same complaint, click a page and thruput starts dropping. Get in a game and suffer CI, Carrier loss, provider reconnects. Yadayada. buck and a half filter swap fixed it to regular crapy 2wire perfermance level.
Cont Part 2: This is a problem in the 2.4ghz band because of the high amounts of congestion (other 802.11b/g/n users, microwaves, phones), and can cause low throughput, or stuttering.Set your 2.4ghz radio to 130mbps, and pick channel 1 or 11 (the least congested, if you are able to check).I tried 2.4ghz in "300 mbps" mode, and it was nothing but trouble for me, but 130mbps ran really smooth.
Hey Dude Great Video & sorry your having trouble.1st.) If I was you I would turn off the (video streaming enhancement) uncheck that. 2nd)You probably have your 2.4ghz radio set to 300MBPS which means you are in 40mhz bonded channel mode.
This means if you specify 11 as your main channel, you will also have a secondary channel such as 9 operating at the same time. Cont...
Sorry to hear your having such a bad experience with this router. Personally I have to say I am very happy with mine so far. I have not had to call any tech support however so I can see where your frustration may be coming from. All in all, if you can get ti to work properly it really is a solid router. I have not had much experience with the 5GHz yet as I havn't figured out how to initiate it and I always refuse to talk to tech support.
Wireless technology is such a gamble. All the routers on amazon have around the same rating, some a little lower, but NONE have full 5 stars. It depends on what you are connecting with, what other interference is in your area etc. Wait a pain.
There mostly are no big differences between revisions, but rather thousands of tiny ones. You know, hardware manufacturers don't release new revision to give you a better experience, they do so to produce their crap in a cheaper way.
The first revision always is a greatly produced thing with durable components to make all those lame "review" sites say WOW! and then to get as much people as possible to buy some cheap thing that bares the same brand and model number.

If your looking for a good router you should go with the Linksys E2000 cause youll have great connection all the time and iif you go to my channel i show you how to hook it up and and the bsics of it.. its very simple which i like and if your a gaming person this is great also for you and i have a video on Xbox or Ps3 consoles for having it hooked up so go check my channel out and it would give you an idea of getting the LINKSYS E2000! or something in that nature
you've got some bad luck, i had mine for about 4 months now and haven't had any problems, but this reminds me of the problem i had with my belkin n+ router.
Have you heard of best buy people think buying things online is worth saving money but it ends up costing you more money if the product doesn't work AT&T sucks
I just bought mine from best buy on sale $129.00 , and so far, after 25 to 30 minutes of setting up the router, I instantly noticed faster bandwidth speed. So far it has met my expectations. I have 3 computers connected and have better connection as far as range. Where I use to have dead spots, I now have strong signal. Its only day one, so far it is good. I will use it for the next 20-25 days and see if I run into any problems. But for now 5/5 stars.
I'm returning the DIR-825 tomorrow and buying this one... Netgear 3700 is still the best of the bunch..despite it not having a virtual servers option... :O
Wish I had have seen this video before purchasing one I have had slow speed and even worse with wpa enabled I am currently using my old router might try the new one again with differant channel see what happens.
im one of the lucky guys i guess . I bought the 60 dollar netgear n and it was a total crap because it made my internet way slower than my 3 year old linkys so i went to best buy and took a chance again and bought the n6000. I did a firmware update and set to outomatic setup wizard and it works just fine .. But now u do got me worried because of the bad experience with the 60 dollar one . IM crossing my fingers nothing happens .
I wonder if there is a hardware difference between both models? My third WNDR3700 is enroute via fed ex. My follow up video will be me actually connecting it. Lets see wat happens.
@keepitrealradio Well I connected my new Linksys E3000 2 days ago and STILL fighting with it. Will NOT read my 1TB USB Storage Drive...Ordered YOUR drive since it is supposed to better support more USB drive options. I HOPE mine works better than yours so I can return my E3000 to Amazon. GRRR! I feel for ya, it's a REAL pisser these things. One more failure I return em BOTH and just use my of G series Buffalo. How did your 3rd router turn out? Or did you just shoot it and quit????
