It's not about being a normalcy. This scene was about a man refusing the call, the call to where ever his potentialities may lead, and that made him a coward. His right was right to get in his ass, because he was spot on with the diagnosis: Will was being a pussy.

And, Will was in love with his girl, but purposely sabotaged the relationship because he couldn't come to terms with his past.

Truly awesome scene. It's hard to show on camera a true friendship that looks realistic. Affleck and Damon are legit best friends, so this scene is just so natural for both of them I'm sure. This is something a lot of people can relate to - I know I have a best friend who could be doing a hell of a lot more with his life, but he doesn't.
