  • I wish i had a best friend like chuckie.

  • 9 people ahh still goin ovah chuckie's house to watch the patriots game, still workin fawkin construction

  • That's exactly right. If you're a friend, then you owe to your pal to get in his shit when he's blowing it.

  • I'm diggin the Chinese subtitles

  • can any1 help me?

i never got this scene, and acctully some ppl told me a similar sh*t

and i never got it, and i still dont , whats so bad about beeing a normal guy?

  • @qweasdf58

It's not about being a normalcy. This scene was about a man refusing the call, the call to where ever his potentialities may lead, and that made him a coward. His right was right to get in his ass, because he was spot on with the diagnosis: Will was being a pussy.

And, Will was in love with his girl, but purposely sabotaged the relationship because he couldn't come to terms with his past.

  • mmm definitly one of my fav movies ever, soo fucking good!!!! seen it maybe 20 times, never gets old! Beautiful work of art!

  • this scene is fantastic. both damon and affleck are excellent, affleck especially. and this is, imho, the climax of the movie. will (damon) is about to realize what he must do.

  • after all that time, Wills best friend is the only person that can talk sense into him.

  • someone had this movie up in parts... then got taken down after forever... such bs,

  • Motherfucking outstanding.

  • this wasn't really affleck's film. it was matt damon's. but affleck absolutely nailed this scene!

  • brilliant scene.Touching.Who wrote the script?

  • @elle3910 Matt Damon and Ben Afleck wrote the script actually. Lol.

  • This scene reiterates what hours of therapy did.

Let me tell you what I do know. .... The best part of my day... you left... I don't know much but I know that.

  • I didn`t understand very much of the scene (because I'm german and the english we learn in school is ...errrrm different to the *real* english) But I understood f*ck all the time. Holy shit in the german translation they don't say F*ck at any time. maybe one or two times, I have to see the incredible movie again. This scene is the best of the whole movie and ben affleck is just ..well in Germany we would say herausragend. I don't know the english word; you can search it in google translator ;)

  • @ThePiecemaker42 They say fuck a lot because that's reality. It's lower class Boston men, if anything its probably much worse.

  • @ThePiecemaker42 "outstanding" :-)

  • A brilliant scene , and very true.

  • Not too many movies I liked with Ben Affleck, but he nailed this one. Perfect.

  • This scene hits a nerve and with Elliot Smith in the background...

  • Someone who tells you you're better than them is a true friend

  • "Still working construction" while his body gestures to what is going on around him is actually destruction. I always thought that was funny that Bens character did not know the difference. Then it dawned on me.

"With destruction comes rennovation". This is the final phase of the destruction process for Will. Only after he is completely left destructed is he able to rebuild.

  • In less than three minutes the months of psychiatric help are reinforced. Will realizes the effect that he has had on the people around him and how others are genuinely concerned for his welfare.

  • This is my favorite scene in the movie- very powerful, explains to us not to waste our talents... great movie.

  • Ben Affleck looks good for 49 :P

  • @fletchet555 Def's wasnt 49 in this movie lol

  • This scene actually represents the trajectory that both of their careers actually took.

  • @richtkim wow really? how'd you deduct that genius theory?

  • @notchjohnson1 I think you meant "deduce" which means to make an inference. I'm sorry to say that "deduct" means to take away or subtract, as in "I will have my income taxes deducted from my wage."

Unless you meant to comment that I "took away" a genius theory -- in which case I'm thoroughly confused.

  • I love how when Affleck drinks his beer, his pinky goes up. What a douche.

  • What accent is that??? I like it.

  • @americanintellectify BAWSTEN (boston)

  • @teddison11 BAHsten*

  • Man I wish I had job offers thrown at me like that

  • whats this gook shit on the screen

  • @notchjohnson1 It's called a language. Those (Chinese) symbols represent ideas, thoughts, and feelings. To you they just look like squiggly lines, but to an intelligent Chinese person they represent everything that the symbols in the English language represent. It is the mode in which Chinese people communicate their ideas, thoughts, and feelings. It's just another way in which one race of human beings communicate to one another.

  • @richtkim wowwwwww. no fucking shit. is that what it all means? you're telling me people dont all speak and wright in english? thats craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy! wow you are a genius for knowing all these COOL facts.

ps that gook language is stupid

  • Comment removed

  • @notchjohnson1 And also, I think you misspelled "wright." The correct spelling is "write." "Wright" is actually the last name of the two American brothers who invented airplanes.

  • saw this movie last night. HAD to call up this scene again. affleck nails it.

  • Best scene in the movie, for sure. This scene also epitomizes a TRUE friend. A true friend won't tell you what you want to hear, they'll tell you what you NEED to hear.

  • @davidjriley98 Exactley! he had all these professors etc... telling him what his potential was but it was his best friend who had his back through thick and thin who straightend him out and told him what he needed to hear.

  • This is my favourite scene from any film ever :)

  • and will is supposed to be the smart one : /

  • This wasn't just good....it was superb.

  • "You're sittin' on a winning lottery ticket, you're too much of a pussy to cash it in. And that's bullshit."

Affleck smashed this scene. The film's an all-time classic, hands down.

  • @jvro22 You are spot on right. Probably the best line of the whole film....a film chock full of good lines and scenes. :-)

  • @jvro22 Yep. Great Scene...great line. Perfect.

That and, "Why the wrench?", "Because fu#k him, that's why."

  • " i dont know much." but i know this: this speech and the whole movie is fuckin epic!

  • Says what you want about his acting, but Affleck is becoming an excellent director and script writer with Gone baby Gone and The Town. I definitely see another oscar in his future.

  • 這中文翻的真爛

  • ill fukn kill you ahah

  • fast times at ridgemont high by the ataris

  • whats the name of the song at the beginning in the backround?

  • Ben...perfect

  • What a perfect analogy - "you're sitting on a winning lottery ticket." This one scene allows me to overlook all the rest of Ben Affleck's less than stellar work. I will forever be his fan because of this scene.

  • @JaredDMI It's a metaphor ou pleb!!

  • My favourite scene from this movie. Thanks for putting it up.

  • AWW MAN GOTTA LOVE THAT ACCENT!!!

  • the thing about affleck is that he is not a great overall actor, but he is SUPERB in these kinds of role. unfortunately he didn't do very many of them. This is the ONLY time i would say damon and affleck are equally matched. now don't get me wrong. damon is better. but this scene is one of the best in the movie, with the best message i think

  • Truly awesome scene. It's hard to show on camera a true friendship that looks realistic. Affleck and Damon are legit best friends, so this scene is just so natural for both of them I'm sure. This is something a lot of people can relate to - I know I have a best friend who could be doing a hell of a lot more with his life, but he doesn't. I watch this scene and think, "maybe I need to kick his ass in gear like Chuckie."

  • What a great scene!

  • prolly one of the best scenes in modern film

yea i know its not really modern its been 13 years now but its still a very good scene

  • only a true friend can tell you like it is. one of the best movies ever produced

  • designer Bo Welch, based on the Oscar-winning. Check this movie free at MovieWatcher(.)US

  • Its the turning point of the movie. When Will says"...spend the rest of my life doing lond division" he knows he's not going to being doing "long division" (he's working on irreducible graphs). He's expecting Chuckie to join him in devaluing that kind of (academic) work. Most guys on a demo crew in Boston would, but Chuckie *loves* him, and tells him the truth.

  • @mthai66 that's actually a pretty good observation

  • Thanks. I've had similar conversations myself, in the same town.

  • @mthai66 why did you put love between two * *? There strong relationship is a big part of this movie. He does love him they're practically family

  • @soggywaffleman *...* means "in bold"

  • Why hasn't Ben Affleck ever managed to re-create this kind of acting. This is phenominal work and its all been downhill from there!

  • @djeclarke Have you watched The Talented Mr Ripley? It was some damn good acting

  • I don't know what his fucking problem is. This is the only film in which I can tolerate (actually like) his acting. He's fucked up.

  • @djeclarke Try 'Hollywoodland' - he truly shines there, though he's not a brilliant actor to begin with.

  • @djeclarke Yeah but I hear his work as a director is great.

  • ben and casey afflect are both fuckin awsome actors

  • will hunting is each one of but that´s maybe a scene that you get very rarely in your life

  • probably the best scene of one of the greatest movies i have ever seen

  • Best scene in the Movie I think

  • great scene, when this movies comes on tv you just have to wait till this scene, it is the culmination

  • Affleck is a good guy.

  • You know, every person in this world should have atleast 1 friend like Chukie, this place would be a more peaceful place

  • It's called figure of speech

  • its an expression. it means that he will be doing construction for the rest of his career life because he doesn't have the type of skills will has. will is an absolute genius and chuckie would do anything to have what will has. so he demands that will use his skills to build a great life for himself through a great career instead of letting it go unused.

  • @mylargehead stupid ass

  • Can someone explain to me why people hate Ben Affleck? I don't get it at all. He's a great actor.

  • And yet both actors support politicians who want to end social mobility for entrepreneurs.

  • will may be smarter but chuckie is the wiser

  • you're sitting on the winning lottery you just too much of pussy to cash in!! YEAAAAAAHHH!!

  • my fav part!! great movie :]

  • this film actually changed how i look at things

  • me 2

  • Give him a good enough role w/ good dialogue...and Ben Affleck can deliver a great performance...this role and his role in "Hollywoodland" are fantastic

  • BEST scene in the movie. And you just know Matt Damon wrote the WHOLE THING.

  • Actually Ben Affleck is supposed to be a very intelligent man so I believe they both wrote good amounts of it. But I know where youre coming from, I used to think the same way.

  • Perhaps it's just media perception of him that has people believing less of him.

  • Yes and the fact that he has chosen to star in films like Gigli, Daredevil, etc.

  • It's about his undying loyalty to Chucky, Southie, etc.; the people and places that have become his family. He's afraid to take real risks in his life (Skyler, work, college, leaving South Boston, trying NOT to be a thug) and Chuck is just letting him know while those characteristics are great for most guys from that area, by staying put Will is wasting away the opportunity they all secretly wish they had when he is obviously capable of far greater things than the average guy. Just my two cents.

  • Your 2 cents is worth about a buck in NY, son.

  • this is the main scene where Will shows his unintelligent side...hed rather work outside doing construction than to be...what he calls a "lab rat" and would be making more money doing that. dudes a genius, except when he says stupid shit like that.

  • Almost unbearably poignant scene on what friendship is really about.

  • Chuckie speaks on behalf of Will's best interest rather than his. A true friend.

  • "A true friend will tell you when your face is dirty"

  • Your face is dirty my friend and your breath stinks.

  • @hbrtmran That's part of their job. They know their faces are dirty.

  • i agree chuckie is a true friend, and this is one of my favourite scenes from the movie along with the park scene. and i think robin williams is really good in serious roles i hate him as comedian love him in this movie and what dreams may come

  • Affleck knows houtta act. Player can direct pretty well, too. Bennifer was a big blip on the radar screen of his career, lol.

  • Anyone who can clown himself the way Affleck does in "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back" can't be a complete douchebag.

  • its amazing, nobody even really knows ben affleck and they think he is a douchebag. i mean he's not that bad of an actor.

in fact, out of that generation, i don't think any actor is THAT much better than him. these guys really earn there money, having complete strangers criticizing the hell out of them.. man, that would suck.

plus the guy wrote this great movie, give him a break.

  • i agree - douchebag affleck actually showed acting skills in this scene.

  • I'm not a big Ben Affleck fan, but he absolutely nailed this scene.

And what a fantastic script this movie had. I know that people have a problem with Academy Award selections, but Damon and Affleck absolutely deserved their Best Original Screenplay Oscar.

  • totally agree

  • @arnyjk Ben Affleck's not a good actor but he was good in this movie.

  • @arnyjk their first and best.

  • This movie has some amazing dialogue.

  • Great film. Chuckie is a true friend.

  • best movie ever i cry everytime

  • This movie has the best lines and dialogue ever no doubt (even though I dont consider swearing a good thing)

  • sry whats the song at the beginning??

  • Angeles - Elliott Smith

  • chuck just wants the best for his friend. Thats a good friend.

  • Favourite scene in a film so dear to me!

  • "Stand By Me" anyone? Just saw it last night for the first time in 15 years, and its kinda similar to "Good Will Hunting", with good friends facing tough choices and trying to do right by one another.

  • Bless anybody who has a true friend like Chuckie :)

  • they dont need to be blessed. they allready are

  • i really jealous of will. people like chuckie are fucking difficult to find nowadays.

  • i agree.

  • there are not many firends as chucky

  • Favorite part of any movie ever.

It is great to see that Chuckie proves his friendship by not cosigning Will's bullshit. That is exactly what friends are for.

  • Yep. A true friend will tell it like it is.

  • wow i luv the lines in this scene (and in every other seen to)

& it would be awesome for anyone to have a friend like "Chuckie". Cuz that's what i call a true friend.

  • That is the true friend.

  • great great film

  • this was a great scene

  • I just finally watched this movie and this may be one of my favorite scenes of ALL TIME!

  • For each time i see this movie, i'm always more impressed

  • This movie was so good it even made Ben Affleck into a good actor.

  • Ben's finest moment as an actor

  • everyone deserves to have at least one true friend like that in their lives.

  • My favorite scene of this movie; its my favorite movie by a mile. This is the epitome of a true friend, they tell you the truth blunt, straight up whether or not you want to hear it.

  • 這就是所謂的 "知己" 吧。

    人一生中若有一個能了解自己的朋友,就算死亦無憾矣。

  • Me too!

  • Do you actually know what he/she said? Or are you just playing around? And, if you do understand, could you translate it for me?

  • its chinese, he/she said something about friendship.. i dont know exactly what i only recognise a few kanjis

  • Thanks

  • everyone deserves to have at least one true friend like that in their lives.

  • "you know what the best part of my day is...?"

this is one of those rare movies that can change a persons whole perspective on life.

  • This is my favorite scene in this, my favorite movie!! I love the "You're my best friend line..." along with the last scene of the movie. :)

  • the best thing about this speech is that ben afflect is so calm when he says it just like your best friend actually would

  • well, they actually are best buddies!

  • Bless anyone who has a friend like Chuckie

  • well they'd already be blessed.

  • this is Ben Affleck's finest hour in acting. No doubt!

  • I totally agree with you! A very deep and powerful film! And affleck is amazing in this one! And this is his only outstanding performance in my eyes, that is.

  • affleck shouldve been nominated for this scene

  • you got that right i love him sooooo much in this scene

  • Well he did win the oscar for wirting this film and shared it with matt damon. Amazing film.

  • we just watched this for my psycology class, I freakin love this scene.

  • beautiful film, great screenplay. INCREDIBLE SOUNDTRACK

does anyone else hear that "Angeles" is in a higher register than it is on the album?

  • What the fuck is Ben complaining about. Here I am stuck in an office 8 hours a day and there he is having a cig and a beer while still at work. Fuck give me that any day of the week:)

  • love this film, such a great meaning to get out there and see about a girl or whatever! 4 a! thanks for posting this!

  • I don't know much, but I know that...

more than a decade later and this is still holds up

  • this is why Ben Affleck deserves to be famous

  • here you can see...that will's buddy is much more wise than will, although he is much more intelligent

  • Have you ever looked at a movie and one of the charecters just reminded you of someone you know so god damn much. Like yourself?

  • This is my favorite scene. Makes me cry every time.

  • So glad to meet you, Angeles.
