Peak moment TV is the best thing since sliced bread, as simple as that. With Janaia and great guests like Martenson and others I would've given up a long time ago. As is said in this video, the most important thing to know is that we're not alone on this. Other people get it. It might be too late to save the world, but we can still save ourselves.
Mr Martenson delivers the best understanding of what is going on in our country and the world.. our country and our civilization are both in deep trouble. Take the time to listen to everyone of his vids.. listen 2 or 3 times... until you get the message...
I just bought land in Willits. I plan to build an off grid cottage. My dream is to be self sufficient and prepare for the end of the oil era and the big crash. I'm in Pasadena, CA. I have an MS in Architecture Columbia University. I just got out of the Army and am unemployed currently. I have much to offer, and would like to meet up with like minded people such as yourself and be part of your cause. I agree with your movement and want to be part of it. Can you give me a bridge to link onto?
At 23:20 Donaldson asks 'Do we need any magic new technology'. Nuclear power is not a magic new technology, but it is needed much more than before. It is the only way to provide enough energy after the decline of fossil fuels.
@lawr66 There is a good reason no new nuclear plants are being built; Its a bad investment and the isn't enough Uranium or Thorium to run more. Peak Nuclear is here I'm afraid...
@Cookiefox I commented in this thread v=zke32JlzebU and these comments include my answer to your point here. Nuclear is perfectly viable for a very long time.
One point that puzzles me is that Robert Hirsch does not advocate it AFAICS. He says peak oil is a liquid fuels problem so nuclear cannot help - I think this is incorrect - it is by far the biggest clean energy resource and electrification should start now.
I think the explanation of exponential growth using the fenway park is incorrect. First we don't know the volume of the Fenway park, but that's not the only thing wrong with the question. Assuming it will be fully filled at 12:49 since your water will double in size, at 12:48 the park is half full, in just one minute it will be 100% full, so if you really want to know the exact moment it probably something like 12:48 + x seconds. Things that I see standing in the way. A pervasive it's all about me/us now mentality. Very large segment of faithful that feel they know when the world is supposed to end before the world runs out of resources, and see now reason to provide for the future generations. Also they seem to believe they can have both Earthy treasures now & eternal life after death.
you can get ahead of the peak and survive..oops except if you're poor!! SORRY SUCKS TO BE YOU!!! that's a crash course some of us have already graduated from. without the aid of a broker and an mba...
In the summer of 2008, when gas prices were going up, I started investing just as he said, I invested in changing my energy use. Even now, only a couple years later, I am seeing my investments paying me back. Also my life has become both more secure (no energy co. can take aways my power) and more exciting (my home has become the safe haven many people want for themselves). Change now and it won't be long before your life becomes so much better.
Chris has a good grasp of the realities on the ground. Mostly already known but he has communication skills.
The down side is that for every person that "gets it" there are at least 20 that don't. And out of that 20 there are 4 or 5 that will resort to violence to prove their beliefs. Look at the Tea Party types. To them the reason energy prices peaked in 2008 has nothing to do with the realities of Peak Oil but rather governments desire to control every aspect of our lives and our money.
I really like Chris martinson and I think he explains the issues very well in the crash course (an introduction, not really super in depth), but I think he's too optimistic. I really worry about upcoming suffering, poverty and possibly, war. Right now, a war with Iran seems almost inevitable.
Good interview. More people really should see Chris Martenson's Crash Course. It's quite long but the info is great for better understanding both the present and the future.
