We have been bothered enough! they have fished in the barents sea, kidnapped two of our crew in the navy , and we had to send two of our f-16 to observe to russian aircraft near north cape. They deserve to pay the price .. the government has said that they are not afraid to use our forces if they find any russian activity in our areas again . Dude, first of all, the Absalon is a command and support ship, the NSM is the worlds most advanced and deadly anti-ship missile and for the ships themself, well theres alot i could have said but its as simple as this : The price for a Absalon ship is just about 280 million USD (i cant belive how a warship can be that cheap) while the norwegian Nansen class is 600 million USD each. NSM may be very advanced but does not have the same firepower as a harpoon. Well there is a saying "you can also buy gold too expensive and hey can Nansen class have 200 soldiers or 57 vehicles in it and sail 28 knots? Can it store two 25ton helicopters while using a 3th? Or can it sail 9,000 nm (17,000 km) or carry 300 mines, no it cant! So Denmark made better ship with less money?? Know your fact before you act :)
No the NSM's warhead does not have a warhead as big as on the AGM-84, but it has an newly developed charge that gives it a much larger effect than a normal warhead of its size, anyway,the point is really, if the missile will be shot down, its no point in having a big warhead. If any of the missiles hit a ship of the sizes we are talking about your dead anyway, so its just a matter of what would most likely do the job, and thats a no-brainer.
No, thank god the Nansen does not have the ability to carry any troops or anything like that, just like all the other frigates around the world, it was designed to take out russian warships in the atlantic ocean, not to be a command and support ship like the absalon. It is only designed to carry and support 1 heli. And it can only sail half of the absalon, but can support itself for longer.

And the merchant fleets. Sweden dont have that much of a merchant fleet yet. Norway has a large one and Denmark has a medium one with the aim to be one of the largest in the world.
Right now we control 10% of all world sea trade. The aim is to get up on 15%. Think if we all combined?

DK and NOs military are very similar - pretty much the only difference is that NO got subs and we dont. In 2012 we will have the same amount of frigates and I guess both are equal
@Tordenguden We are constantly changing our military - Our military might be smaller now but we can afford to send out more troops to foreign countries on longer periods too.

Norway has a larger military on the homefront and can afford some troops in international missions but I dont think its on a scale as we do.

So the numbers are roughfly the same as the danish. DK has one advantage over NO in money spending on ships. Our ships are much cheaper because of Flex system

I know about Russia and we might end up in a conflict soon. I read that NO got invaded last year by Russia but they didnt get very far because of the entire NATO threatned with war - mostly from Denmark and Sweden. Something about our primary minister was furious about the inncident.

I guess at the time they complement the fleet with capabilities the Danes needed. There is no shame in getting these subs as they where extremely well maintained and retrofitted + extended by 1.5 meter or so. The sonar system that was installed was the best on the market and as good as on our new ULA class. The names of the ex Norwegian subs in the hands of the Danes are :
KNM Kaura, used for spare parts, Springeren Ex KNM Kya, Tumleren Ex KNM Utvær, Sælen EX KNM Uthaug. I served on several.

Det var noget der gjorde ondt på barndomsdrømmende da vi skrotede ubådene, men jeg håber vores nye fregatter kan sparke lidt prestice ind i den dankse flåde, så vi har noget imod jeres Nansenklassen, når der skal prales:) Men selv om ubådsarbejde var drømmen er fæderlandsføleslen nok for stor. Dude, first of all, the Absalon is a command and support ship, the NSM is the worlds most advanced and deadly anti-ship missile and for the ships themself, well theres alot i could have said but its as simple as this : The price for a Absalon ship is just about 280 million USD (i cant belive how a warship can be that cheap) while the norwegian Nansen class is 600 million USD each. Its as simple as that dude.

No the NSM's warhead does not have a warhead as big as on the AGM-84, but it has an newly developed charge that gives it a much larger effect than a normal warhead of its size, anyway,the point is really, if the missile will be shot down, its no point in having a big warhead. If any of the missiles hit a ship of the sizes we are talking about your dead anyway, so its just a matter of what would most likely do the job, and thats a no-brainer.

No, thank god the Nansen does not have the ability to carry any troops or anything like that, just like all the other frigates around the world, it was designed to take out russian warships in the atlantic ocean, not to be a command and support ship like the absalon. It is only designed to carry and support 1 heli. And it can only sail half of the absalon, but can support itself for longer.

Have a look at Wikipedia you will find that is can sail 28 knot. Yes it can handle 3 helicopters because while 2 is stored it can use a 3th.What can your Hansen hunt with only 8 anti-ship missiles and only ESSM and Sting Ray torpedo for ASW? The Danish ship also has more firepower. So maybe youre just an overpriced Ford? But hey I really dont want to argument like this we are both NATO and if ever war would come we would be fighting side by side! Your ship is good but so is mine!

Sure there can be 3 helos on the ship at the same time, but that dosnt mean it can SUPPORT it!And ffs dude, your absalon will carry 8-16 AGM-84's just like the Nansen (one of the many prepared-for upgrades)and if you take a loo at other new frigates in EU, like the F-125 or the dutch De Zeven, you see they cary 8 SSM's!

And the merchant fleets. Sweden dont have that much of a merchant fleet yet. Norway has a large one and Denmark has a medium one with the aim to be one of the largest in the world.
Right now we control 10% of all world sea trade. The aim is to get up on 15%. Think if we all combined?

Kosovo (Reduced from 500 to 50 in very few years)
Norway has a larger military on the homefront and can afford some troops in international missions but I dont think its on a scale as we do.

But Russia says they wont solve the northpole inncident with force. But they are still making a new arctic fleet and new special troops.
It can be a problem with CAN, DK and RUS claim the northpole. And every country is strengthing its arctic regions. We will have fighters and more ships up there soon

I guess at the time they complement the fleet with capabilities the Danes needed. There is no shame in getting these subs as they where extremely well maintained and retrofitted + extended by 1.5 meter or so. The sonar system that was installed was the best on the market and as good as on our new ULA class. The names of the ex Norwegian subs in the hands of the Danes are :
KNM Kaura, used for spare parts, Springeren Ex KNM Kya, Tumleren Ex KNM Utvær, Sælen EX KNM Uthaug. I served on several.

Well, Hitler was handed his first defeat of WW2 in Narvik, Norway... Secondly, the sabotage of the Vemork heavy Water plant by Norwegian resistance ensured Hitler did not get the atomic bomb first.
We all know what would happen if Nazi Germany had the first atomic bomb, don't we?
Two other sabotage attempts of the plant was made prior to it by british paratroopers, but they failed. Norwegian resistance did the job.

Well i will not say who is stronger DK or NO fleet. I don´t have an idea about whos better .. But i like to point out that 1/3 of all the overmen (skippers, machne engineers, and shipsmates) in danish ships are faroese.
THerfor a large percentage of those who are in chagrge on these big ships of Denmark are faroese. Norwegian companies also constanty search for faroese Skippers and Machine engineers on the faroese radio.

yeah shure, Norway uses most money per capita on the millitery in scandinavia but we also have a huge income from the gas/petroleum recorses.

Sweden have one of the Worlds most advance submarines in Gotland.. A Submarine which cant be spotted on Radar or Sonar.

the Terma radar on absalon can spot any water movements. Even see stream of fish. So a stealh submarine is not worth.

little cruiser?. Absalon is maybe the heaviest frigate today :D. It's very big. Well Americans are buying Danish radar equipment. Even on the JSF project it's Danish radar. There are something called anti-submarine missile if you didn't know.

Absalon using "Tactical Radar Electronic Support Mea-sures (ESM) and Surveillance System. Nothing can sneak in on that. Even not a small dolpfin. The rader also spot airplanes far away. It has some kind of intelligent gps. Can't remember the name of it.

Skjold has the same fire power as a frigate and only 50 meters long with a creew of 16 menn. Gotland class is also small compered to other uboats. Absalon is big and slow, a big target. Our fritjof nansen frigate is narly on the same sice as Absalon only 6 meters shorter with the same amount of weapons but 5knops faster(8km/h). Absalon is more of a transport ship than Nansen.

Absalon wights about 1000 ton. more than fritjof nansen, and is more heavy ranged.

Ships today are smaller and armed with missils. Yust look at the small canon on absalon, canons are of the old days and missils can be armed on small boats as big boats.
The skjold class missil boat is armed with 8 NSM missils and each one of the missils can take out a absalon.
Absalon is more of a all round ship(command/support ship) and a transport ship.
Skjold = ship hunter.

Absalon is big, but a canon is pretty useles in modern warfere. And a 70mm canon have no problem shotting trough the absalons armor. And if you are thinking about fighting with canons absalon is a big slow target while skjold is a small/fast(60knots)target.

350mm canon xD in youre dreems=D 120mm there is. Eather way if it is small ore big has not much to say becus todays armor on frigates is pretty thin. The armor on skjold is actually stronger and lighter than the armor on absalon. It is a Norwegian materialmade in umoe Mandal by kongsberg.

Flot flåde, eller hvad man siger. Må inrømme jeg har svært ved at se om jeg hellere ville have været nordmand (skal arbejde i det danske søværn). Det var noget der gjorde ondt på barndomsdrømmende da vi skrotede ubådene, men jeg håber vores nye fregatter kan sparke lidt prestice ind i den dankse flåde, så vi har noget imod jeres Nansenklassen, når der skal prales:) Men selv om ubådsarbejde var drømmen er fæderlandsføleslen nok for stor.
