but by the sound of 0:30, the commentator makes it sound like the fight is part of the actual game by calling out their moves:/ is it actually allowed?
its not technically allowed but it is completely accepted. You get a 5 minute penalty (stay in the penalty box for 5 minutes) and thats it usually. .. fights usually happen every game, often more than once. the announcers always call it like a boxing match, saying "rights "lefts" upper cuts etc.
fighting is part of the game. hockey although from the outside may appear wild is the most honorable sport as you're accountable for your actions. hence the fighting.
there is the strategy as lepage99raven says, but it also stops people taking runs cause they know some big bugger may tear their head off
