  • I am in love with Gary Bakewell rofl he is too cute! The first time I saw him all's I could do was go "OH MY GOD! A little MACCA!" hahah Ian Hart is fantastic too

  • chris o'neill and gary bakewell are AMAZING.

    ahhhh, so hot.

  • God I have the biggest crush on Gary Bakewell (Paul)

  • He LOOKS like Paul, too!

  • yeah Gary really does! (and so cute too :D )

  • I liked this movie, okay. What I didn't like was the fact that they got people to re-do the songs. They were just so out of place, and are just... weird. Unnecessary.

I did love all of the performances, though. The Pete Best character, too, I thought was good.

  • Thanks for posting this. I thought the movie itself was good, and the music was great, but when is someone going to make a real Beatles biopic like they did with Walk the Line and Ray. It's been over 40 yrs!

  • i love this film i was in it... one of the german hoes in the kaiserkeller

  • Paul McCartney, was not impressed with the movie, stating: "One of my annoyances about the film Backbeat is that they've actually taken my rock 'n' rollness off me. They give John the song "Long Tall Sally" to sing and he never sang it in his life. But now it's set in cement. It's like the Buddy Holly and Glenn Miller stories. Now Backbeat has done the same thing to the story of The Beatles.

  • how much of this conversation r they makin up? anyway i love this film...

  • And they should have fleshed out John and Paul's relationship more. And the (love) triangle between J,S &P, like Paul's jealousy of John and Stu's friendship. BC bad bass playing was not the real reason Paul didn't want him in the band. That may have been part of it but it was not the whole reason or even the real reason. The real reason goes deeper than that. In fact, many have said that Stu was a good bass player. And what's all that crap about John saying that it was his and Stu's band?

  • paul said that both he & george were jealous of stuart. john was so close to him cuz the painting+music contrast & age. of course, we all know john became very close to paul & even george later on.

but i think the filmmakers wanted it to be subtle - notice they added in several quick smiles between j/p. & paul complaining about stu's playing.

i'd love to see a film on specifically j/p's relationship. there's two of us, but it focuses on the 70's. there needs to be one about all 23 yrs.

  • btw, paul confessed the jealousy in anthology...if anyone was wondering.

  • I read in some sources that one of the reasons why Paul didn't want Stu in the band is because although Stuart is not a musician himself (he's not as good as Paul actually), he was a sort of a babe magnet and his looks won him female fans. That's the reason why, on the Beatles' first gig without Stu, they were mugged because many women demanded Stu's presence.

  • No not true. All three of them sang from the beginning. This movie is completely off the mark. Not bad though as pure entertainment.

  • what's the song of "John" sing in the part 2?

  • long tall sally

and theres the song rock n roll music

  • They got the five best looking men EVER! to play The Beatles! Backbeat is such a GREAT movie!

  • don´t think so...macca got into the group because he knew all the lyrics of the songs, so his main strenght was vocals, his ambition was to be a singer he even quit playing the trumpet cause he couldnt sing, there are dozens of photos of him in front of the mike and stu giving his back to the audience, and paul himself said he was the only one that sang LTS

  • the first punks! white dopes on speed!

  • One of the best movies ever made.

  • this film is just crap... Paul McCartney sang Long Tall Sally!! Just Him and Little Richard!!! And George never had blue eyes...

  • there were a few messups... but the film is good if you ignore the truth. It's still a good film. and the person who plays Paul is so perfect.

  • Heehee, a FEW? The whole damn thing is a revisionist piece of crap. But a very entertaining, well acted revisionist piece of crap.

  • how do you know the "whole damn thing" was off? there's more to it than who sings what, y'know. i only spotted small mistakes that aren't all that important.

  • it's an ADAPTATION, so of course there's gonna be mistakes!

  • but still, macca sang long tall sally! what´s next?, ringo composing imagine? george shot by chapman? yoko an amputee??

  • You're right. Paul most definitly sang right from the beginning and so did George. This movie is pure revisionism. It's entertaining but VERY innacurate. John never sang every song. And everyone knows that Paul always sang the Little Richard numbers. Would it have killed them to be accurate?

  • But there are mistakes in every scene that depicts the Beatles. Every scene? That's way too many even for an adaptation. And why not make a real movie instead of an adaptation?

  • Man I have been waitting for a while for part three r u ever going to post it...thanks

  • Sorry I've been to China Germany and around the UK a few times touring with the Backbeats, over the last weeks and not been near my studio. I will get round to it. Peace and Love Chris

  • hey man thats cool I was just wondering...who r the back beats and where can I hear them

  • Wonderful. Thanks Chris. I'm thinking of doing a beatles film project relating to the beatles myself. Still in the thinking stages.

  • Hallo, lieber Nika,du schreibst:"Too sad that German viewers can't hear how well Ian Hart does John's way of talking!"Yes, you´re right...with the younger ones. The others, that´s grown up with the Beatles, they listened to english radio stations and heard their voices in pure Liverpool slang in every interview at BBC, Radio Caroline, etc.

And most of all:They find a really fantastic crew for everyone of that unique persons in that film.
