I am in love with Gary Bakewell rofl he is too cute! The first time I saw him all's I could do was go "OH MY GOD! A little MACCA!" hahah Ian Hart is fantastic too
I liked this movie, okay. What I didn't like was the fact that they got people to re-do the songs. They were just so out of place, and are just... weird. Unnecessary.
I did love all of the performances, though. The Pete Best character, too, I thought was good.
Thanks for posting this. I thought the movie itself was good, and the music was great, but when is someone going to make a real Beatles biopic like they did with Walk the Line and Ray. It's been over 40 yrs!
Paul McCartney, was not impressed with the movie, stating: "One of my annoyances about the film Backbeat is that they've actually taken my rock 'n' rollness off me. They give John the song "Long Tall Sally" to sing and he never sang it in his life. But now it's set in cement. It's like the Buddy Holly and Glenn Miller stories. Now Backbeat has done the same thing to the story of The Beatles.
And they should have fleshed out John and Paul's relationship more. And the (love) triangle between J,S &P, like Paul's jealousy of John and Stu's friendship. BC bad bass playing was not the real reason Paul didn't want him in the band. That may have been part of it but it was not the whole reason or even the real reason. The real reason goes deeper than that. In fact, many have said that Stu was a good bass player. And what's all that crap about John saying that it was his and Stu's band?
paul said that both he & george were jealous of stuart. john was so close to him cuz the painting+music contrast & age. of course, we all know john became very close to paul & even george later on.
but i think the filmmakers wanted it to be subtle - notice they added in several quick smiles between j/p. & paul complaining about stu's playing.
i'd love to see a film on specifically j/p's relationship. there's two of us, but it focuses on the 70's. there needs to be one about all 23 yrs.
I read in some sources that one of the reasons why Paul didn't want Stu in the band is because although Stuart is not a musician himself (he's not as good as Paul actually), he was a sort of a babe magnet and his looks won him female fans. That's the reason why, on the Beatles' first gig without Stu, they were mugged because many women demanded Stu's presence.
don´t think so...macca got into the group because he knew all the lyrics of the songs, so his main strenght was vocals, his ambition was to be a singer he even quit playing the trumpet cause he couldnt sing, there are dozens of photos of him in front of the mike and stu giving his back to the audience, and paul himself said he was the only one that sang LTS
how do you know the "whole damn thing" was off? there's more to it than who sings what, y'know. i only spotted small mistakes that aren't all that important.
You're right. Paul most definitly sang right from the beginning and so did George. This movie is pure revisionism. It's entertaining but VERY innacurate. John never sang every song. And everyone knows that Paul always sang the Little Richard numbers. Would it have killed them to be accurate?
But there are mistakes in every scene that depicts the Beatles. Every scene? That's way too many even for an adaptation. And why not make a real movie instead of an adaptation?
Sorry I've been to China Germany and around the UK a few times touring with the Backbeats, over the last weeks and not been near my studio. I will get round to it. Peace and Love Chris
Hallo, lieber Nika,du schreibst:"Too sad that German viewers can't hear how well Ian Hart does John's way of talking!"Yes, you´re right...with the younger ones. The others, that´s grown up with the Beatles, they listened to english radio stations and heard their voices in pure Liverpool slang in every interview at BBC, Radio Caroline, etc.
And most of all:They find a really fantastic crew for everyone of that unique persons in that film.
Hey this great man..you would not belive how hard it is to find back beat in a video store or anywhere besides buying it on the net...but whatever keep doing what you do...later

No not true. All three of them sang from the beginning. This movie is completely off the mark. Not bad though as pure entertainment.

there were a few messups... but the film is good if you ignore the truth. It's still a good film. and the person who plays Paul is so perfect.
