@hanson666999 That's very kind of you. It could happen one say, but it seems the audience here is much grander and more interactive than what I could ever hope for through non-digital publication.
Love this video. Being thirteen, I'm glad there are at least some people who acknowledge the burden that they-- and humanity as a whole, I guess-- have placed on our shoulders. However, I doubt that my generation is strong enough to hold all of it. Sometimes all you can do is hope.
It's too bad that one man can't change the world by himself. You need cooperation on a much larger scale to really make lasting difference.
you are smart. every human is silent, each and every one is quiet and will remain quiet for some reason, when we see each other as strangers out in the world. its strange because theres always a feeling of hate between us all.
Personally I was a fundamentalist, apologetic, anti-gay, anti-science christian and at 18 I became an atheist and the exact opposite of who i was back then.
For a good 30 seconds or so, I thought the image on the screen was some version of the platetechonics of North, and Central America. In my sleep deprived state, I see a blue US and Mexico, with an unidentified land mass in the Atlantic, and an inland sea in western TX, NM.
@thinker900 Great answer! Not only have you not told me who you were directing your name calling to, but you didn't tell my why you were doing it either. Your comment almost achieves the label of having ZERO content. Bravo.
Don't obey anyone. Trust them or be inspired by them but don't obey. Doubt, ask questions and justifications. Understand what you are doing and express yourself to improve things. That would be my advise.
@GrapplingIgnoranceYou took the words right out of my mouth.I have always thought the same thing about the adult world even when I was a child. Now that I am an adult I am sure of it.Thanks for trying to make the world a better place by being a critic of the lies and willfull ignorance that adults often dress as maturity.I have a child and when he is old enough to understand and cope with this issue I will reveal.1 thing you left, most adults don´t think they have anything to learn from children.
@GrapplingIgnorance you could widen your audience further to those that don't access the internet as much as they would like to or to those that don't use it at all....why limit yourself??
@740992@PurpleGhost Publishers who are unknown & attempt to reach an audience by writing books seem to struggle to sell a few thousand copies to an audience that doesn't know anything about them- especially if they are writing from the perspective of a largely unpopular opinion. My videos average a few thousand views, which is getting the message to far more people without the financial investment needed. It's looking like the internet will outlast hard copies, but thanks for the complement.
@GrapplingIgnorance I see what you are saying but it could still be a good idea as the you tube following of thousands would raise your profile. besides, I'm sure the costs would be kept low if the followers chipped in. I certainly would as there is not enough on the bookshelves to get people thinking...a few thousand people 'going against the grain' should not be ignored and that alone could spark interest...but I totally respect your apprehension and caution (but it was worth a try!)
My hope in humanity has slightly been restored. If only my parents were more like you. The christian youth group they send me to makes me very depressed.
@fishypaw I have to disagree with you, in part, on the ego thing. The ego, alone, is very important to the self as well as the drive for self-preservation. Why would one want to be like an ant in a colony? I think the problem is with the OVERBLOWN ego which seeks to impose its interests and desires upon others (maybe this is what you mean by egotism?). My ego for me is good, my ego for you is very bad.
@savageecho Ego obviously has an evolutionary 'benefit' but without going into it too deeply, ... I notice often that the things I dislike in other people or myself are usually related to ego. I find my life runs smoother when I keep my ego in check. I also think this applies to nations and other groups of people.
Yup, humanity never grows up. It is absolutely disgusting. The only thing that changes from childhood to adulthood is the drive for other entertainment and the acceptance that you aren't going to get what you want if you throw a tantrum for not getting what you want (you just throw fists and bombs instead).
@AncientAtheist Hah, well you just might be right about that. Perhaps it's 800. Yoda was pretty damn wise by then, but then again, he wasn't human. What species was Yoda...?
"Yoda's race and home world have never been stated in any media, canonical or otherwise, and he is merely stated to be of a "species unknown" by the Star Wars Databank."
Let's just put it like this - Yoda was wise, but he was a Muppet.
"You were told not to pick on people for being different, but you'll find plenty of adults closing themselves off from anyone who has something new to offer- any threats to breach their comfort zones." -you
I feel so awesome right now because I'm 12 and I already realize this stuff :D But you might want to realize that not all "children" are obiedient, and innocent, and simple-minded. Quite a lot of my friends, around my age, and I have already discovered our own views, opinions, and beliefs on many topics that seem "adult."
@buktomsin Seriously? I don't really know if you're joking or not...lol. If you are then well...okay? It's possible. And if you seriously are, then dude when I was three I didn't even know what debating was! Good for you! :D
try being a young adult now. it sucks man, in America that is. everytime I am back in the US I see people my age not doing anything, some choose to, but I know a lot who just can't. A lot of what use to be available has been kinda torpedoed, and they're mostly too scared to leave the country or state they're living in. But if you have a BA/BS degree do not limit yourself to the US market because it is a sure way to ensure that you're unemployed also working in American sucks.
I disagree strongly with the way you present your ideas, most of which I agree with. You want children listening to a faceless ameba, telling them with a bit too much attitude how hypocrete human beings are?. There is a reason for adolescence. Sure, the "innocence" of a child is better destroyed with any news or entertainment show than with your ideas. But I am telling my kids pretty much the same things in a less violent manner, for example, with choices offered. Are you sour?
@ianero5olitario So get this- this video was posted on youtube, in a format and with the use of language not well received by children. Has it occurred to you that maybe, just maybe I WASN'T expecting pre-schoolers to log on, find my video, watch and comprehend it? Is it possible that the message being delivered to the stated audience might actually have been intended for an adult audience to convey a certain set of points? Hmmm Naaaaah, I guess you're right.
@GrapplingIgnorance I don't want to assume too much, but I've followed you for a while and feel we have much in common. I live in a small Christian community, work with the underprivileged children of largely ignorant parents, and it aggravates me that most of the things they cling to are untrue and dangerous, yet it is professionally dangerous to be to outspoken (thus blurry GI 2.0). I see your channel is an outlet for the tart and sour truths that you must sugar coat in your daily life.
@GrapplingIgnorance I trust that your reasons for your actions are your own, are well thought, purposeful, and require little sycophantic praise. But as one thinking individual to another I would like to say that I have enjoyed your work, and your resolve not to be silenced. They should know better than to fuck with a wrestler. We know what pain, sacrifice, and discipline are. We know what strength is really all about. They’re mentally flabby, and sensitive about it. Keep it up brother!
My problem is not what you expect, but what you get. If you target kids as you yourself point out, you are not opening any eyes, probably scare them or bore them. 1:06 tells me you think too much of yourself, with no substance to offer. I think kids nowadays (always) think they have a much better grasp on reality than their parents. If you target adults, yeah, so what? any solutions or you just like pointing fingers at the obvious?"
@ianero5olitario It's so odd you should point out the line at 1:06 that points out how the people meant to listen to this are not young children. Teenagers and up, if you really need me to explain that to you. The solutions to these basic problems are to follow our own basic adult advice that we give to children. To learn to share, to listen to each other and to use our words rather than violence for example. I really can't believe that I have to explain this to you. Did you even listen?
@GrapplingIgnorance Did you even read? No need to explain your argument, I only disagree with your ways. They show you think you are entitled to point the way because you became aware of hypocrisy in society, As soon as I critizice you, you get sarcastic, instead of asking why I am not in agreement.
Now that you say that our own basic adult advice is the key, to learn to share, to listen...why not start with me?, and learn to share respect?
@ianero5olitario You haven't bothered to show it. You're under the impression that people need some sense of "entitlement" to simply point things out. That's not the case. I'm not claiming any heir of superiority by pointing out problems and/or proposing solutions.
@ianero5olitario - Just who exactly are you picturing listening to this? This is perfectly appropriate for teenage audiences (teenagers, are still considered children), and if there are prepubescent children who have the patience to sit through this, how much worse do you perceive it to be than late night cartoons?
I honestly don't understand your complaint about the 'facelessness' is it so awful to think of it as an 'audio' program that just happens to have a picture- Are you so against radio?
@PurpleGhost I picture myself, looking at a very full of himself individual. I did not copmplain about the facelessness, I never show my face in my videos either. Just my opinion,
As I tried to point out, I agree with the most part of what GI said, just do not like his paternilizing ways, and the lack of any will to overthrow the situation. Assuming too much from my words wont make dialog easy, neither this guy´s ego. He did not responded to me, he wanted to pwn me "haaaaard" Discusting.
@ianero5olitario What are you talking about? What gives you this ridiculous impression of me having some massive ego? This video clearly gives my opinion that adults of the world don't take the basic advice that most agree to tell their own children. The idea that applying such advice to our adult lives would be a good thing. How the hell do you perceive that concept as from someone who's "full of himself." You were also hung up on getting the intended audience wrong, and I DID respond to that.
@ianero5olitario The line "You want children listening to a faceless amoeba" implies there is something wrong with that aspect of his presentation. If it wasn't a complaint, then you probably shouldn't have included it in your criticism.
'paternilizing'='Patronizing'? He wasn't patronizing, he was critical of the way our world is run, but this was a call to arms, a 'what are yeah-all gonna do about it?!' - by the way, that means he isn't doing nothing.
@ianero5olitario "But I am telling my kids pretty much the same things in a less violent manner, for example, with choices offered. Are you sour?" Aren´t you sour about the condition of the world that your parents generation left you? I am! I think we should all be angry about this. It´s nice to be nice but, enough is enough. It´s long past time to fight the fight against interlectual dishonesty and willfull ignorance. we can´t afford to tolerate this any longer. We need to grow up!
@sstan1337 I WAS sour, for long. Then I started acting, sometimes in the wrong direction. People proud of being the cool guy telling you how things are, no matter how right they think they are, are really close to religious leaders, since they feel they know better. Its as if I told myself that having this "argument" with you Im doing my part to better the world. Posting 100s of inspiring videos is not either. Doctors without frontiers, maybe?. Grow up is not getting mad, is getting busy.
@ianero5olitario I'm really curious about what point you're trying to arrive at here. Is your point that people shouldn't make videos that inspire action or productive thoughts? Should the 4 minutes I spend recording this video have gone into the altruistic actions that you apparently devote every moment of your life to? Does making a video that addresses things one considers a problem automatically mean that person thinks they have all the answers and are just as bad as religious leaders?
@GrapplingIgnorance Again, with the sarcasm. Firstly: my point is I do not like your way of saying things. I did not say you were stupid, I did not say you were wrong. I did not flag your video either. I just did not liked it, and what I got was agression. If you think I am being violent for expressing my disagreement, just say so, we both have more important things to do. Im not altruistic.
My main point is: Neither myself nor anyone else have the right to tell anyone else what to think, next
@ianero5olitario I never claimed you said I was stupid/wrong. Nor that you flagged me. Nor did I show you aggression. I used sarcasm to make a point, & you've whined about it. I also never said you were being violent, or that you didn't have the right to dislike my video, so NOTHING you've said in this comment makes much sense, or serves much of a purpose. I don't care if you dislike me or my videos, but claim that I think things about myself that I don't and I will correct you.
@GrapplingIgnorance Your line at 1:06 "You will soon" is to me patronizing, and wrongful. Is there no other way to understand reality than "everything they have lead you to believe is not so"?
In that sense you are close to religious leaders, is that an offense in your book? You seem to understand it as one.
I think people are people, you do what you feel is right as I am doing now responding. Maybe Im a troll, Maybe Im just not your audience. Could I have something interesting to show to you?
Are you really arguing in circles, because you found it patronizing, that he felt most parents were misleading their children? That's not patronizing, that's bloody true!
He didn't say /all/ parents either, he implied most; and given the numbers (especially of anti-science nut-jobs), I'd say that's tantamount to fact.
Your feelings of 'rightness' are led by a sense of outrage, but your outrage is misplaced.
@ianero5olitario So then writing poetry and making videos is not "getting busy"? Being the benevolent guy who has all the answers is just the passive aggresive way out, and is more close to the behaviour of religious leaders in my opinion. If playing along is more comfortable for you then kudos but, don´t tell other people that their way is wrong because their are many. Doctors without frontiers is a nice cause but, it doesn´t have anything to do with this theme. Nice try though.
@sstan1337 Poets are much needed. I would be comitting the same stupid mistake Im trying to criticize if I told GI that he is wrong and should do things different. I just did not agree, and did not liked his presentation. I get that people have the sense that confrontation means agression. I have not the stamina or motivation to pretend I am in the same level of commitment that doctorswithoutborders. I was just trying to make a point, and failing by quite a bit.
Yhea... I`m 17 and I pretty much got everything from it... It`s pretty damn sad that some people don`t learn core ethics not even in their 30s... Unfortunately Humanism is not as popular as it should be...
I had thought about a tag simular to this but in a more general idea, myths you had as a kid that you had to learn were wrong as you grew up. one of the biggest I remember was as a kid I wanted to grow up and live on a planet :>
@GrapplingIgnorance well thats the point :> As a kid planets were something you went elsewhere to see :> I was like 4-6 at the time I was corrected right away but still find it funny.
| agree wholeheartedly with what you're saying GI and as my daughter grows up, | plan to teach her exactly that... I think too often parents feel like they have to be the "be-all end all" to be able to raise their kids when in fact, if we as parents were honest with our kids from the get go, i beleive things would go much more smoothly for all involved... specially the kids. Thanks for the great vid as always!
I remember how disappointed I was when I realized this.... I grew with a sense of "global peace", but as I saw what countries did to eachother, I found myself picturing the world as a school. But the difference was that there are more bullies picking on nerds and that there is no principal. Alot people pray to an imaginary principal to come out of its office and give everyone detention though. Do the best with what youve got I was later told. But I cant just stand by and watch as the world burn.
This is exactly what I've been thinking. The children will be the ones who fix some of our mistakes. They are the future and it's important to encourage them to think for themselves. Maybe (just maybe), they will be the key to a nonreligious society that bases reality on objective observations and evidence.
There is something to be said for wisdom though. While I certainly more than fully support the idea that no ones' perfect and no one should ever have their idea's treated as so, there is none the less the simple fact that most people that are older have been through more and as such learned a thing or two about life and how to interact with people.
Now given there will always be exceptions to this as there is with anything, but it's not something to discount.
when i was a child i realized this as well. adults acting like "children" . and as a child, i was insulted i thought we kids had a better mind then most adults( and some of us did). i hope, when im a teacher, ill be able to be sure not to assume my students are seen as adults acting like children. cuz im sure most of them understand~
THIS is one video of your's I completely agree with.
Except I don't tell my daughter that I'm perfect. I say: don't do this! Then: I sometimes do this... naughty daddy! I try to get pissed of at her ... at times when she didn't use her head and at times when I hope she will get pissed off at me for the same.
Needless to say, the same old same old keeps creeping back. Can't wait till she gets to the adolescent phase.
Very well said, as usual. It's disheartening that you, and people like you, don't want to have kids, while the immature selfish people of this world breed and breed and breed, treating their kids like puppies.
@DarkMatter2525 : Pretty much anyone who has children aside from you and your elite clique, as if you even have experience raising kids or have the same life experience that those "selfish immature" people do.
@LIMELlGHT - It was a vauge generalization at best, and needn't imply nearly so broad a 'net' as you seem to think it definitively does. But if /you/ want to describe /all/ the rest of the world as 'self-immature' people, then those are /your/ lines, remember that.
@PurpleGhost : Well by definition I don't believe I actually made an assertion... Apparently Jeff and his minions do not know what a generalization is either, or the intention of my use of the word. You do not have to target a specific group to make a generalization (i.e. sweeping statement), but you guys are really smart so I'm sure you already knew that...
@LIMELlGHT - First off, while I am sure 'getting peoples goat' is fun, how about trying less classholery, it's more fun for /everyone/.
You honestly don't think stating "Pretty much anyone who has children aside from you" is not an assertion? You are /defining/ (All be it with very broad strokes) what you /think/ he was /implying/ - that is an assertion. A statement of belief or opinion without grounds.
I didn't disagree with you that he was making a generalization, don't fucking strawman.
@LIMELlGHT He said that immature and selfish people of this world are having lots of kids and not raising them well. He didn't say that anyone besides himself (he didn't even mention himself) who has kids is selfish and immature as you've just misquoted (you quoted two words and didn't even get the order right. You should probably read someone's comment carefully enough to know what it says before accusing them of generalizing or having inflated egos.
@GrapplingIgnorance:"It's disheartening that you, and people like you, don't want to have kids" ("you, and people like you") - (i.e. you, RH, himself, and others alike or likeminded)
"The immature selfish people of this world breed and breed and breed, treating their kids like puppies."
("The immature selfish people of this WORLD") - (i.e. anyone who may differ in opinion, educational background, or financial demographic. World seems all inclusive)
@PurpleGhost Did you use your thesaurus for that one? Perhaps you are right (to some extent) however I find it to be highly unlikely that I am completely incorrect.
@LIMELlGHT, you still haven't named a group. Unless...are you seriously being a crusader for selfish immature people, defending their honor against my oppressive YouTube comment? Commendable. If selfish immature people is your group, then by all means, give me examples of people who belong to this group so that I may learn about them and correct my misconceptions about them.
@DarkMatter2525 By what standard do you classify these people as selfish and immature?
Does your life experience transcend all others giving you some unattainable philosophical insight?
I think you kids just enjoy talking about shit that you don't understand and revel in the rimjob your mindless high school audience gives you whenever you shit something out.
@LIMELlGHT, WHAT PEOPLE? I only identified them as selfish and immature. You're making an assumption that I'm referring to people who aren't selfish and immature, but I gave you no other identifiers. I didn't say theists, atheists, Christians, Chinese, or whatever. Nothing. You know what they say about making assumptions.
@LIMELlGHT, well, not only did you fail to give any actual examples of how my channel commits these transgressions, but this has absolutely nothing to do with this particular point of contention. You're just misdirecting because you failed here. I can see why you felt the need to defend the ignorant.
@DarkMatter2525 You side stepped my question regarding what standard you use to label others by substituting an answer with a joke/insult. Then you strictly resort to insult to make it seem as if you are victorious in a discussion that (no matter what) would end in a stalemate.
(Unless of course you suffer from the Dunning-Kruger effect)
All you do is target religious people (kinda like fish in a barrel) the "transgression" is self evident.
@LIMELlGHT, find a dictionary. Look up the words "immature" and "selfish". What the fuck is the point of using language if each person has their own standard of definitions? There's no stalemate. You made a bullshit assumption and I called you on it. You fucked up and you're not big enough to admit it. When you see a person being immature, you know it. When you see someone being selfish, you know it. We're using the same standard. You just want to be combative, but you picked a non-issue.
@LIMELlGHT, I think your problem is that you're seeing my comment as a dichotomy, like I meant there are ONLY those who are like GrapplingIgnorance, or selfish and immature. That's not what a meant at all. There are all kinds of people who aren't like us, who aren't selfish and immature, and who are qualified to raise kids. I was limiting my admonishment ONLY to those who are selfish and immature. Understand now?
@dumbnetworks What the hell do you expect? He can't show his face, so he has to add some sort of spice into the video portion with all of these interesting, unique video effects.
I've never been made to feel more proud of my parents than after seeing how close this matches with them. They've always avoided authoritative behavior toward me. Every time I refused to do something, they reasoned with me why I should do it instead of simply saying "Because I say so". They avoided feeding me myths, and even when they did, they prefixed them with "We don't know if that's really the case, but the tale is that...". Maturity "stuff" was always with "should" instead of "must".
that is clearly the attitude that leads to destruction. i want to make the world we live in better then when i first got here. I am succeeding in a small scale now (very small scale) to teach people the beginnings of reason. question everything. that is the answer.
"Mothers, tell your children: be quick, you must be strong. Life is full of wonder, love is never wrong. Remember how they taught you, how much of it was fear. Refuse to hand it down - the legacy stops here."
I always love ur vids. They're like a breath of fresh air to my brain cells shaking them out of a fog. U & several other ppl here on YouTube help keep my brain sharp. Keep doing your thing.
As a parent, I commend you, Grappling. We dont buy into dumbing down our daughter, and remind her we are trying to do the best we can in raising her. But, we are flawed beings and to remember we love her very much. We also joke, that when she has her own, she can screw up her kids, too. ;D
@GrapplingIgnorance - Thank you. Believe it or not, life is much easier when I dont have to be politically correct, gloss over important details or hold back with my child. She is pretty aware that bullshit abounds in this world-which will eventually be her generations world.
BTW-Bee (Our daughter) really enjoys your videos. She also loves George Carlin, too....
Age is one of the most annoying biases anyone can have. I'll admit it, i don't like younger kids, but that's no reason for me to come off as condescending and superior to them. To many older people see themselves as superior to the young, and demand respect solely for being alive younger. well i for one think the blissful innocence of a child is preferable to the corrupt selfishness of the adult world. just who is setting the right example here?
@GrapplingIgnorance Our society places far too much importance on it. I mean we have presidential age limit! I just remember in high school my opinions were always seen as inferior by adults and teachers i would talk to, because they would simply write me off as a kid. That kinda stuff must do wonders for the students' confidence. Hell i'm 20 now and I still get looked down on by older people occasionally. How old does one need to be to gain true respect in the world? Its truly ridiculous.
I hope that you publish all this stuff one day G.I! You're a really great writer :^) Thanks for uploading this.

Interesting. I have posited for a while now that ego or egotism is probably one of humanity's biggest downfalls.
fishypaw 7 months ago
@fishypaw I have to disagree with you, in part, on the ego thing. The ego, alone, is very important to the self as well as the drive for self-preservation. Why would one want to be like an ant in a colony? I think the problem is with the OVERBLOWN ego which seeks to impose its interests and desires upon others (maybe this is what you mean by egotism?). My ego for me is good, my ego for you is very bad.
savageecho 7 months ago
@savageecho Ego obviously has an evolutionary 'benefit' but without going into it too deeply, ... I notice often that the things I dislike in other people or myself are usually related to ego. I find my life runs smoother when I keep my ego in check. I also think this applies to nations and other groups of people.

Yup, humanity never grows up. It is absolutely disgusting. The only thing that changes from childhood to adulthood is the drive for other entertainment and the acceptance that you aren't going to get what you want if you throw a tantrum for not getting what you want (you just throw fists and bombs instead).

try being a young adult now. it sucks man, in America that is. everytime I am back in the US I see people my age not doing anything, some choose to, but I know a lot who just can't.

GrapplingIgnorance 7 months ago 58
@GrapplingIgnorance I don't want to assume too much, but I've followed you for a while and feel we have much in common. I live in a small Christian community, work with the underprivileged children of largely ignorant parents, and it aggravates me that most of the things they cling to are untrue and dangerous, yet it is professionally dangerous to be to outspoken (thus blurry GI 2.0). I see your channel is an outlet for the tart and sour truths that you must sugar coat in your daily life.

@GrapplingIgnorance Oh, the pain. Sarcasm at its finest.
If you target adults, yeah, so what? any solutions or you just like pointing fingers at the obvious?"
ianero5olitario 7 months ago
@ianero5olitario It's so odd you should point out the line at 1:06 that points out how the people meant to listen to this are not young children. Teenagers and up, if you really need me to explain that to you. The solutions to these basic problems are to follow our own basic adult advice that we give to children. To learn to share, to listen to each other and to use our words rather than violence for example. I really can't believe that I have to explain this to you. Did you even listen?
GrapplingIgnorance 7 months ago
@GrapplingIgnorance Did you even read? No need to explain your argument, I only disagree with your ways. They show you think you are entitled to point the way because you became aware of hypocrisy in society, As soon as I critizice you, you get sarcastic, instead of asking why I am not in agreement.
Now that you say that our own basic adult advice is the key, to learn to share, to listen...why not start with me?, and learn to share respect?
ianero5olitario 7 months ago
@ianero5olitario You haven't bothered to show it. You're under the impression that people need some sense of "entitlement" to simply point things out. That's not the case. I'm not claiming any heir of superiority by pointing out problems and/or proposing solutions.

@sstan1337 What a strong argument against all of my pedantic nature. Why would you feed me then?
ianero5olitario 7 months ago
@ianero5olitario - Just who exactly are you picturing listening to this? This is perfectly appropriate for teenage audiences (teenagers, are still considered children), and if there are prepubescent children who have the patience to sit through this, how much worse do you perceive it to be than late night cartoons?
I honestly don't understand your complaint about the 'facelessness' is it so awful to think of it as an 'audio' program that just happens to have a picture- Are you so against radio?
PurpleGhost 7 months ago
@PurpleGhost I picture myself, looking at a very full of himself individual. I did not copmplain about the facelessness, I never show my face in my videos either. Just my opinion,
As I tried to point out, I agree with the most part of what GI said, just do not like his paternilizing ways, and the lack of any will to overthrow the situation. Assuming too much from my words wont make dialog easy, neither this guy´s ego. He did not responded to me, he wanted to pwn me "haaaaard" Discusting.
ianero5olitario 7 months ago
@ianero5olitario What are you talking about? What gives you this ridiculous impression of me having some massive ego? This video clearly gives my opinion that adults of the world don't take the basic advice that most agree to tell their own children. The idea that applying such advice to our adult lives would be a good thing. How the hell do you perceive that concept as from someone who's "full of himself." You were also hung up on getting the intended audience wrong, and I DID respond to that.
GrapplingIgnorance 7 months ago
@ianero5olitario The line "You want children listening to a faceless amoeba" implies there is something wrong with that aspect of his presentation. If it wasn't a complaint, then you probably shouldn't have included it in your criticism.
'paternilizing'='Patronizing'? He wasn't patronizing, he was critical of the way our world is run, but this was a call to arms, a 'what are yeah-all gonna do about it?!' - by the way, that means he isn't doing nothing.
You, are the one assuming too much.
PurpleGhost 7 months ago
@ianero5olitario "But I am telling my kids pretty much the same things in a less violent manner, for example, with choices offered. Are you sour?" Aren´t you sour about the condition of the world that your parents generation left you? I am! I think we should all be angry about this. It´s nice to be nice but, enough is enough. It´s long past time to fight the fight against interlectual dishonesty and willfull ignorance. we can´t afford to tolerate this any longer. We need to grow up!
sstan1337 7 months ago
@sstan1337 I WAS sour, for long. Then I started acting, sometimes in the wrong direction. People proud of being the cool guy telling you how things are, no matter how right they think they are, are really close to religious leaders, since they feel they know better. Its as if I told myself that having this "argument" with you Im doing my part to better the world. Posting 100s of inspiring videos is not either. Doctors without frontiers, maybe?. Grow up is not getting mad, is getting busy.
ianero5olitario 7 months ago
@ianero5olitario I'm really curious about what point you're trying to arrive at here. Is your point that people shouldn't make videos that inspire action or productive thoughts? Should the 4 minutes I spend recording this video have gone into the altruistic actions that you apparently devote every moment of your life to? Does making a video that addresses things one considers a problem automatically mean that person thinks they have all the answers and are just as bad as religious leaders?
GrapplingIgnorance 7 months ago
@GrapplingIgnorance Again, with the sarcasm. Firstly: my point is I do not like your way of saying things. I did not say you were stupid, I did not say you were wrong. I did not flag your video either. I just did not liked it, and what I got was agression. If you think I am being violent for expressing my disagreement, just say so, we both have more important things to do. Im not altruistic.
My main point is: Neither myself nor anyone else have the right to tell anyone else what to think, next
ianero5olitario 7 months ago
@ianero5olitario I never claimed you said I was stupid/wrong. Nor that you flagged me. Nor did I show you aggression. I used sarcasm to make a point, & you've whined about it. I also never said you were being violent, or that you didn't have the right to dislike my video, so NOTHING you've said in this comment makes much sense, or serves much of a purpose. I don't care if you dislike me or my videos, but claim that I think things about myself that I don't and I will correct you.
GrapplingIgnorance 7 months ago
@GrapplingIgnorance Your line at 1:06 "You will soon" is to me patronizing, and wrongful. Is there no other way to understand reality than "everything they have lead you to believe is not so"?
In that sense you are close to religious leaders, is that an offense in your book? You seem to understand it as one.
I think people are people, you do what you feel is right as I am doing now responding. Maybe Im a troll, Maybe Im just not your audience. Could I have something interesting to show to you?
ianero5olitario 7 months ago
@ianero5olitario
He is just saying "question the world".
'No dragons to find only myths'.
PurpleGhost 7 months ago
@ianero5olitario So then writing poetry and making videos is not "getting busy"? Being the benevolent guy who has all the answers is just the passive aggresive way out, and is more close to the behaviour of religious leaders in my opinion. If playing along is more comfortable for you then kudos but, don´t tell other people that their way is wrong because their are many. Doctors without frontiers is a nice cause but, it doesn´t have anything to do with this theme. Nice try though.
sstan1337 7 months ago
@sstan1337 Poets are much needed. I would be comitting the same stupid mistake Im trying to criticize if I told GI that he is wrong and should do things different. I just did not agree, and did not liked his presentation. I get that people have the sense that confrontation means agression. I have not the stamina or motivation to pretend I am in the same level of commitment that doctorswithoutborders. I was just trying to make a point, and failing by quite a bit.

@LIMELlGHT - It was a vauge generalization at best, and needn't imply nearly so broad a 'net' as you seem to think it definitively does. But if /you/ want to describe /all/ the rest of the world as 'self-immature' people, then those are /your/ lines, remember that.

PurpleGhost 7 months ago
@PurpleGhost : Well by definition I don't believe I actually made an assertion... Apparently Jeff and his minions do not know what a generalization is either, or the intention of my use of the word. You do not have to target a specific group to make a generalization (i.e. sweeping statement), but you guys are really smart so I'm sure you already knew that...
LIMELlGHT 7 months ago
@LIMELlGHT - First off, while I am sure 'getting peoples goat' is fun, how about trying less classholery, it's more fun for /everyone/.
You honestly don't think stating "Pretty much anyone who has children aside from you" is not an assertion? You are /defining/ (All be it with very broad strokes) what you /think/ he was /implying/ - that is an assertion. A statement of belief or opinion without grounds.
I didn't disagree with you that he was making a generalization, don't fucking strawman.
PurpleGhost 7 months ago
@LIMELlGHT He said that immature and selfish people of this world are having lots of kids and not raising them well. He didn't say that anyone besides himself (he didn't even mention himself) who has kids is selfish and immature as you've just misquoted (you quoted two words and didn't even get the order right. You should probably read someone's comment carefully enough to know what it says before accusing them of generalizing or having inflated egos.

I didn't say theists, atheists, Christians, Chinese, or whatever. Nothing. You know what they say about making assumptions.
DarkMatter2525 7 months ago
@DarkMatter2525 : Your entire channel is based on assumption and generalizations, that makes an ass out of u not me.
LIMELlGHT 7 months ago
@LIMELlGHT, well, not only did you fail to give any actual examples of how my channel commits these transgressions, but this has absolutely nothing to do with this particular point of contention. DarkMatter2525 7 months ago
But I'm just an ignorant fool what do I know...
LIMELlGHT 7 months ago
@LIMELlGHT, find a dictionary. Look up the words "immature" and "selfish". What the fuck is the point of using language if each person has their own standard of definitions? There's no stalemate. You made a bullshit assumption and I called you on it. You fucked up and you're not big enough to admit it. When you see a person being immature, you know it. When you see someone being selfish, you know it. We're using the same standard. You just want to be combative, but you picked a non-issue.

They avoided feeding me myths, and even when they did, they prefixed them with "We don't know if that's really the case, but the tale is that...". Maturity "stuff" was always with "should" instead of "must".

As a parent, I commend you, Grappling. We dont buy into dumbing down our daughter, and remind her we are trying to do the best we can in raising her. But, we are flawed beings and to remember we love her very much. We also joke, that when she has her own, she can screw up her kids, too. ;D

@skeletonmom I have an overwhelming gratitude for parents who do what you are doing for your children.

@tehloserisyou Exactly. I hated the age discrimination when I was younger as well.
