@bobphillips99 For one there's no fuss with connecting a USB cable. It's nice to just place it on the touchstone and let it do its thing.
Also, with PriWare installed you can make it do all sorts of neat stuff. Like when you place it on the touchstone you can make it connect to wifi, sync all your email/calendars or even start playing music. As you said, it's not required as the USB cable does the same thing (charge). But it's a nice luxury if you have the money to waste.
I have the pre plus and I was very happy I bought the touch stone. to get the cover open on the charging port of the phone I have to slide out the keyboard and it still takes a good finger nail to get it open. I also use my phone as an alarm/clock so it works well on my bedside table. one last thing, I have pets who love to knock things on the floor, the touch stone sticks to the table so that doesn't happen.
can you use any usb wall adapter to power the Touchstone? I bought 3 of these on Ebay and tried using a USB adapter to wall plug and doesn't seem tot work. Do you have to use the touchstone wall adapter?
@jstar7 The official Palm Micro USB cable is the only cable designed to fit in the touchstone, but any Micro USB cable can in theory work. You would just have to cut the cable head to be small enough and match the shape of the Palm one.
iv had an iphone.. it last me about a year then th screen smashed and unplugged itself and wasnt fixable.. so i moved onto th palm pre... i wasnt impressed with no bluetooth and stuff but it is soooo slow its unbeliveable and the charger broke within 5 days of having the phone, i waited untill th phone fully ran out and then i waited for the phone to fully charge for a full day and my battery only lasts over night, if u connect 2 facebook on your fone it adds all your facebook contacts aswell :(

I think you should have mentioned the other features of the touchstone charger. Nice phone. I'm a new convert from nothing: no Palms, WM, or iPhones in my past.
Pros for me are multitasking, responsiveness, WebOS / developing for WebOS (AJAX vs Cocoa), and Synergy.
Cons (though I don't own the phone) are battery life (touchstone should be oem), lack of simultaneous voice/data (supported by EVDO Rev A, but limited by Sprint... damn you Sprint!), and limited storage (7-8GB with no card slot).
Voice/Data issue will be solved in six months when Verizon gets GSM Pre's...
It is using the Van der walls Force which is the Gekko effect on the charger. It is because there is a large amount of surface which makes it stick to virtually anything, more surface there is the more it sticks. Men so cool i wish i had two of them.
You could cover the back of your phone with extra surface by making it very rough allowing it to stick to anything.
the charger is a cool idea! and the gecko type on the bottom is actually cool and some are using that technology for gloves for rock climbing and other things aswell. but that gecko research has been around for a while and pre put it into good use i guess? dont have any room on the table try the ceiling or the side of the table!!!

Not really stupid if you work at a office. Also it enables some features like answer wile on the touchstone puts you in speaker mode. Then if you take it off it goes to regular mode. It also displays the time wile charging and it looks good.

you're right i take that comment back but its still nothing special like the iphone. Its cool what it can do and all but it wont satisfy you like the iphone will because they probably wont progress much further than the apps they launch with because they wont have a big enough following or for whatever reason.
Only someone who hasn't used the Pre would say it is "nothing special" compared to the iPhone. The Pre makes the iPhone feel antiquated.

What you say may be true but I can tell you have no idea what you are talking about. One its not called the Linux engine its called the Linux kernel. A kernel is the guts of the. It basically tells the hardware what and how to manage the operations entered through the GUI because the Linux kernel is so advanced and stable it can manage multi tasking much easier than inferior kernels used be operating systems like windows vista .XD

Isn't what you just described the very thing thats in the video?? The charger is plugged into the wall and the new backing makes a connection with the battery and you bring those together and BAM it charges. Also its charging without connecting the phone to a cord thats plugged into the wall. Try thinking about it and you'll realize this is a wireless charger.
Is it magnetic? No. Thats why this is $70 Its not some docking station that PLUGS into the phone. You don't really need this or a docking station cause your phone comes with a charger already.

It's impossible to going back to plugging in a cable after getting the Pre. It is a must for any Pre user. Plus, the textured back feels about 100x more high quality than the standard back.

Indeed. No more fumbling with a USB door. Also, using it in the car is very impressive. It doubles as a cradle and makes it the most effective car charger yet.

my sister had the iphone and i just got the palm pre and let me tell u the interface on the iphone gets so old and makes ur eyes tired and blurry the pre has such a fresh new feeling to it with that it lets u stay up all night on the internet or texting ur girlfriend thats why i got the pre and another reason i got the pre is bicause the att plan i so much moor expensive than the sprint one i have now and way less complicated and i suggest the palm pre to everyone it is the bext thing ever

you're right i take that comment back but its still nothing special like the iphone. Its cool what it can do and all but it wont satisfy you like the iphone will because they probably wont progress much further than the apps they launch with because they wont have a big enough following or for whatever reason.

Only someone who hasn't used the Pre would say it is "nothing special" compared to the iPhone. The Pre makes the iPhone feel antiquated.
Bottom line...if you want your phone to have a lot of games and you use it as an MP3 player, get an iPhone. If you want a great device that fits better in your pocket, has a keyboard, multitasks, has a better screen, and is simple to use...get a Pre.

if you would do some research you would see that the new palm os runs off of a linux engine thus giving it the ability to run the "cards" without slowing the phone down signifigantly

What you say may be true but I can tell you have no idea what you are talking about. One its not called the Linux engine its called the Linux kernel. A kernel is the guts of the. It basically tells the hardware what and how to manage the operations entered through the GUI because the Linux kernel is so advanced and stable it can manage multi tasking much easier than inferior kernels used be operating systems like windows vista .XD

ill tell you something! i have the pre and my brother has the iphone 3g s and let me tell you that there both ass bad ass as it gets! the pre is still imature and needs a few weeks to get all the initial issues like software glitches and hardware difects, in place. the iphone has been around for a while so its good to go. the since me and my brother compare phones all the time i will tell u this with confidence the iphone can do alot more but if you get it u r stuck with at&t but palm is good 2

im pretty shocked that this induction technology isnt used on more phones. the technology has been around for a LONG time. works just like a normal electronic transformer. HID prox cards also use the same technology

2 things about this video.
1. Sucks that the magnet isn't strong enough to hold the Pre while its on the wall. I'd still get that anyways cause its cool as hell.

I don't have a pre or anything but if i had to guess i would say the that the charger is magnetic not the Pre. I would hope they had already look into situations like what you said. Also, put your credit cards in your other pocket...seems like a smart thing to do if you ask me.

this is pointless. $70 to just pay for something that u can already do. all u have to do is plug it into a regular charger to charge it. this is just for lazy rich people that just want to spend the extra money cause they have nothing else to do. and it isnt even wireless. notice the wire that came out from the side of it. if a wireless charger would actually exist, all u would have to do is plug it into the outlet. then plug another separate piece into ur phone and then it would be wireless.

Isn't what you just described the very thing thats in the video?? The charger is plugged into the wall and the new backing makes a connection with the battery and you bring those together and BAM it charges. Also its charging without connecting the phone to a cord thats plugged into the wall. Try thinking about it and you'll realize this is a wireless charger.

Is it magnetic? No. Thats why this is $70 Its not some docking station that PLUGS into the phone. You don't really need this or a docking station cause your phone comes with a charger already.
