  • I think they probably sounded different from that because a) they weren't sounded at full-blast and b) they have been submerged 2 1/2 miles below the Atlantic, and are corroded, and bent from the water pressure. They are just like brass instruments, like a trumpet. Even the slightest ding will affect their sound quality. We were supposed to be able to hear them across town,(Minneapolis) but we didn't hear shit! LOL

  • A good example of how they should sound is watch?v=C3BJ8DsJdVE

  • DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!

  • DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XD

  • @MultiSuperSonic1000 kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • its sounds like that .awooooooooooooooohhhhhh XD hahaha

  • booooooooooooooo xD

  • I like your version, if I'd build a boat it would have a loudspeaker and play that :)

  • was that the whistles they recovered from the wreck??

  • Yep!

  • this vidoe is coyed but the wisel did not go boooooooo it go ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • @eyesk8ter yeah my speling was speedy sorry :(

  • @eyesk8ter did you even watch the whole vid

  • @thetickleninjas ya thers a vid JUST like this the horn sounds like it shode

  • @eyesk8ter ya ive seen it

  • sounds creepy (you whistle)

  • 0:51 - Olympic's engine sounds when heading the breakers' yard in Jarrow

  • Such a magnificent sound.

  • Anyways 5/5

  • I saw it also, but why in the world was it the last time they were going to blow the Titanic's whistles?I did not get that.

  • I think it's for preservation reasons - when they X-Rayed them they found there was pretty significant implosion damage or such like.

  • @Titanic19127 it was the last time since the horn being under water for so long, if they blew it at to high of a PSI(air pressure) it would shatter. there was also a crack found running along on it too.

  • Hey there BarryDennen12, I was wondering, do you have a recording of the Titanic's whistles from when it first went sailing in 1912? Like something from a newsreel?

  • To my knowledge, no such thing exists - the newsreel of Olympic is the closest thing there is.

Having said that, there's a video of the Mauretania whistle (which is identical) and sounds much nicer.

  • I was there! :D

  • Funny thing is, the 1912 whistles are actually from the Olympic, her sister ship, but no doubt that they were similar, if not identical. Nice vid though. lol

  • sooo cool to hear titanics real whistles. do you know where a video showing them getting them off the ocean floor would be?

  • Comment removed

  • Well aren't YOU a fucking vigilante in disguise?

Guess what, you wobbly lipped carcinoma of a human being? I put (at the very start of the 'misleading text') a plain fucking instruction to skip to 0:45 to hear the real whistle - which is, in fact, in the video.

I also took the time out of my day to throw in a period recording of ANOTHER whistle of identical design! The least you could say is thanks, you gruesome pile of pimple spunk.

  • @thelasthallow YOu don't really know what you're talking about.

  • you know I have offten wondered some years ago there was a battle over ownership of the titanic and who had salvage rights,,,but ,,,I would think at this time ,,seeing how the titanic has had so many dives and so many scanvenagers,,,,going down there and taking as much as they can,,,I dont think theres MUCH LEFT OF THE TITANIC TO BE TAKEN,,,isnt the ship,,,whats left of it,,,just about empty now,,, french diving team,,picked up stuff

  • it didnt look like they cleaned up the whistles I could be wrong,,,but it looks like they just brought back the titanic whistles right off the ocean floor with out getting the rust off them,,are they made of the same type of metal,,,I would think that they would restore the whistles to there oringal look,,before trying them out in front of a lot of people,,but at least its proof they were brought back from the ocean floor,,SO AWESOME,,,,

  • It's mostly a sort of superficial stain or tarnish (not sure of the word) as far as I can tell.

In any case it's a very different kind of metal from the rest of the ship so it's not nearly as big a deal.

  • it sounds really... ghostly? xD i don't know but i like it

  • That is so scary and makes it sound so sad.... What I wouldnt give to have been on that ship. Not to sink with it but just have the experience

  • as I understand it the QM,, had one of her whistles taken off and put onto the QE2 I think it was,,,but I know the QM,,at long beach california still sounds her whistle at certian times of the day I WAS THERE about 3 monthes ago had lunch aboard her it was AWSOME!! but Im not sure how they sound her whistles on the QM,,,because theres no steam,,but they do sound her whistles,,so cool!! Im a big fan of the QM,,Im glad I got a chance to go to calif

  • AWESOME THANKS

  • hey BarryDennen12 THANKS THAT WAS SO COOL its hard to believe after all these years of sitting on the ocean floor she still sounds off but how do they get the whistle to blow if its a steam whistle ,,,just by blowing air into the whistle by using a air compresser OR a small boiler of some sort that made the steam to go up into the whistle,,how they get it to work

  • No worries!

Compressed air, at less pressure than the whistle was designed for. They were worried about breaking them.

If you look in the related videos I've uploaded the Mauretania whistles which were more or less identical - they are being sounded at higher pressure using steam, which is how the Titanic ones should have sounded.

    VERY awesome sound. Cheers!

  • its called a air compressor to operate it

  • is that the oringal whistle off the titanic that they salvaged from the ocean floor

  • It is. Go to 0:45 to hear the proper sound.

  • They told everyone "Now this is going to be really REALLY loud. Cover your ears" They said that several times. SO we got all excited thinking it was going to be. You see the woman in the video covering her ears? We all did exactly that. Then we uncovered them cause it wasn't loud. There was the slightest resembalance to a real whistle sound when they first pulled the cord. Like the first split second the whistles sounded real then they smoothed out in sound to a coo. But I heard the Titanic.

  • I guess they had to take it easy .... but I mean what's the big deal if the whistles DID break?

The ship broke and killed 1500 people. I think we need to learn to take some risks for once - honk the damn whistles at full volume I say. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

  • I think the deal is that they want to preserve them, those whistles could be heard for 11 miles at one time so thats alot of sound coming from them.

  • I was there and it was rather a let-down. They weren't as loud as everyone thought. We were expecting a ear splitting scream and we got a little hoot owl coo. LOL. It was winter. the crowd was massive and we all had to squeeze through 2 smallish gates to get out. you could feel peoples bodies crammed up against you like in Japanese subway car even with all our thick winter clothes on. Some people had 1912 clothes on. Wommen with big hats with feather in them. Huge dresses. Guys with fancy suits.

  • That must've been disappointing. Surely they could've sounded the reproduction whistles and not told anyone ... it would've been dishonest but it would've been a heck of a sound!

  • That sucked.........hard.

  • Fuck yourself, moron. I give you authentic sounds from Titanic AND Olympic (you just skip ahead a bit) and that's the best you can do?

    Fucking moron....

  • man thats not really cool i had relatives on the Titanic and thats not what they would want to hear nearly 90 years later...get a life dude!

  • Fuck yourself, you weren't there.

I gave you the *real* sound of not only the Titanic but the Olympic at the end of the video. Skip ahead a bit, cocksucker.

You should be thanking me. Fuck off.

  • "BOOOOOO"...what an ass...LMFAO. :)) Actually, thanks for adding the true test sounding after the whistles were "restored"...would've been that much more awesome to hear them at full strength. "BOOO"....you'll burn in hell, but dammit if that wasn't hilarious...

  • In case you haven't already, check the Mauretania whistle video I put up. Those whistles are identical, and are being blown at full strength - it's a way cooler sound in my opinion.

    Cheers!

  • Oh tiddly tuddly.

  • Authentic Olympic whistles at the end. (shrugs)

  • boooooooooo

  • Comment removed

  • Courses?

Why's that? Is it because I gave you a sound of the Titanic's whistle AND the Olympic's whistle?

Or were you too stupid to skip to the end? You fairy?

Tell the fag in your display picture to stop hacking your account and uploading crap.

  • Your quite an angry person aren't you?

  • Only in traffic.

  • hehe

  • LOL XD

  • you're such an ass hole, that titanica girl made a good point. god you are the biggest fuck head on youtube...

  • Crybaby. I give you rare recordings and you give me lame insults.

  • I'm a lot cleaner than you, fucking rat...

  • Fuck off, Shatner....

  • Okay, if you're kidding, disregard the following.

    ---

Don't be a fuckin' fool. At 0:46, that's the Titanic's whistles being sounded in 1999(ish).

And at 0:51, that's the whistles of the Olympic being sounded while the ship was on it's last voyage. Taken from a 30's newsreel.

    ---

Iif you're just poking fun, then I'll take all that back.

  • Video rating: 1 star. Lousy.

As for your terms of viewing and complaint: DENIED. By uploading videos, and not warning potential viewers that those videos are tasteless, you agree to accept all complaints.

  • Fuck you, you stupid little slut. Not only did I give you the sound of the real whistles (see the end of the video) I also gave you the sound of the Olympic's whistles in full flight -

you should be fucking THANKING me you diseased little whore.

When you're not too busy going down on your father, I will be waiting for your apology.

  • WOW! your such a discrace to titanic! the titanic is a legacy that shouldn't be messed with or funnied. it's a serious, sad moment, and you went and made it terribly horrid. I hope the curse of the titanic comes for you when you go on a cruise ship!

  • ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • thanks for the video! i think it was funny, especially the BOOOOOO!

    lol thank you!

  • i was actually there when they blew it off and if u want i can send you the video i took i had the whole speech and blow on video

  • Were you?! Man that's lucky.

No need to send it to me personally, you should upload it though.. it would be cool to see!

    Thanks for watching!

  • have you uploaded it yet?

  • Never mind!

  • This was terrible. I came here to hear HER whistle and I get this boooo. You should be ashamed!

  • Covering the sound with voice is cheesy. It kills the effect and it is stupid. Let it be heard for what it is, the Titanic's own voice.

  • I won't insult you, but you're an idiot. I not only included the real sound at the end of the video, but I also threw in the *authentic* sound of the Olympic's whistles from 1935.

I don't want another comment out of you unless it's something approaching a 'thanks, and sorry that I missed the point'.

  • My bad! I didn't wait until the end!

  • Damn right 'your bad'. Hahaha.

  • What, no toot toot?

  • BOOOOO! Ha ha, definitly the ghost of the Tianic. I wish I could've been there... :)

  • Youtube comments depress me. Delicious win being subjected to fail.

Alternativly these are wannabe trolls who've played too many games of forumwarz and think they're the living breathing Internet Hate Machine.

Either way, disregard these an-heroes-to-be. Fun times were had.

  • idiot

  • When you're not too busy munching on your own cum, you might spare a thought for the fact that I included not only the real whistle sound (in the 2nd half of the video) but also a pretty rare sound of the Olympic's whistle.

If anything, you should be thanking me - you humourless waste of space.

    Cheerio!

  • Wow. Lame.

  • Yeah, they definitely should've blown the whistles at higher pressure for a more authentic sound.

  • Definatly...

Maby they were just being carefull of jus how much that unit has been through.

  • If they did that, they would be risking not having a whistle! Lol. The reason they blew it at such a low psi is they feared breaking it if they blew it more forcefully, after all, it spent eighty-some years below 12,460 feet of freezing cold Atlantic Ocean salt water!

  • Implosion damage was quite evident in the X-rays taken of the whistle bells. It's almost certain that the whistles would've been destroyed if sounded at full pressure, I think.

  • That is why they blew it with such low pressure (there's at leasty one innuendo joke somewhere in this discussion! Lol)

Now wouldn't it be great if a high quality recording was taken of one of the existing replicas of the whistles blown at 1912 pressure?

  • The closest we have is a newsreel of the Olympic whistles being blown in 1935 (I was nice enough to put that sound on the end of this video). Also, I put up a video with the sound of the Mauretania whistle being blown, which was more or less identical to the Titanic whistle.

So if you want to know how they should've sounded; there you go!

  • Indeed Mauretania was nearly identical, and so was the Normandie's, which I think is still around. I also hear that there are even some replicas of Titanic's around, like the movie prop(s) and others based on it (them).

  • Hmmm, pretty sure that the Normandie's is very different actually. There's a video of her maiden voyage (and a very recent video of just the horn itself being blown at some party!) and it's not a whistle - it's a horn.

  • That is the video I was refering to. A Titanic Research & Modeling Association Trustee says it is of the same size and build as Titanic's.

  • Hmmm... that is most peculiar. The Titanic (and the Mauretania) used old fashioned triple-bell whistles. From every photo and video I've seen of the Normandie, it used Tyfon horns - quite different beasts.

    Hmm!

  • Normandie had indeed a pair of Kockums Tyfon 575, like the ones on QM, but there was, as well, a triple bells backup whistle, just above the horns.

    Check "SS Normandie" at 4.56mn.

    Cheers

  • Ahhh! Thanks for sorting that out

  • I want dat sound as a ringtone xD

  • BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO xDDDD

  • AHAHAHAHA!! That really cracked me up on the floor!! Hilarious! XD

  • I probably shouldn't find it funny, but I find it hilarious!

  • Ha ha ha! I'm in fits of laughter from this video! Well done, guys!

  • How dare you desicrate the beautiful nattue of the Titanic's Whistle! It is the ghostly sound of a hundred perished bloopy blopp blah blah blah.

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

    lmfao, great vid guys.

  • Awesome.

  • BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

  • BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • BOOOOOOOOO! Now that is authentic.

  • Yours is totally better.

  • Yeah, the whistle indicated whether a hack Hollywood writer in 1999 would cash in on the ship with a mawkish, disgusting movie.

  • loolololololol

  • BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - lol

    (wooo first comment!)

  • I agree, yours is way better
