  • Like martha stuart might say "it's a good thing" I never saw way starssmucks got so big I always equated thier quiltry too the "mcdonalds of espresso" then Ironically mcdonalds started doing espress lol. Why would you want crap espresso made with burnt breans and essentially made with a automated machine? When you could get great hommade goodness made by a pro-barista for the same price!

  • I work at Starbucks and hate it. As a sign of protest, I plan on learning more about the business of coffee and opening up my own little shop to compete against them.

  • Coffee Crystals.. my favorite.

  • Mmmm Folgers is so good. Seriously.

  • Why wasn't McDonald's mentioned? I at least saw a couple of frames of Dunkin' Donuts. The orginal loss in market share was driven by CORPORATE competition.

  • I have no problem with Starshmucks going down

  • Coffee.. You mean an addictive substance like caffeine in coffee is allowed to be LEGAL in America? Wow, I thought anything which did anything for you had to be prescription only? How long before we all require medical coffee cards? :P

  • Everything I've read has said that caffiene is not physically addictive. I've heard that of pot as well so in the end that doesn't mean anything of course.

I believe Canada has a law which states that caffeine can only be in cola-type soda. This is why Mountain Dew isn't caffeinated in Canada. What the point?

  • The rumour was false. Coke, Pepsi, et cetera all have caffeine in them. Jolt Cola was even sold here for a while, though I don't know what happened to it (maybe it was banned?)

    Maybe you're thinking of Utah.

  • We have Red Bull.

  • I might be wrong about 7Up etc being caffeinated in Canada; somebody just told me that tehy don't have caffeine I don't really drink pop, so I have no idea.

Our government loves justifying their salaries by changing the drug regulations every three months, so it's plausible.

  • Not my favorite reasontv episode. Why didn't they say that even when Starbucks wins its because the population chose Starbucks over the other stores, because they wanted Starbucks MORE. Starbucks can't make you buy their coffee they have to offer it in a better way than their competitors. How is that a bad thing?

  • oh come now. libertarianism is about the individual, the little guy, we should always praise the entrepreneurs.

Besides, this is just further proof that in a free market (at least as the coffee market or any other can be said to be in America), size doesn't matter and can even be detrimental to proper economic resource allocation. Its proof that when forced to compete it really is about who provides the best product and service, not the fictional "war chest"

  • I walk by three different coffee shops (one a Starbucks) on my walk to campus which is about three blocks. Also there are two different companies who sell coffee on campus. I have plenty of options. :)

  • Competition is what keeps us going. Building a better mousetrap has made this great country what it is. And the myopic folks that want zoning restrictions don't realize that it will make it harder on smaller coffee shops to branch out if there are already preexisting government restrictions.

  • We believe it's in Berlin, Germany.

  • Where was that Walmart on Karl Marx street?
