  • Why didn't they cross at night time when the road was empty? :(

  • LOL at Adder! "MAGGOT!" That bit where Whistler carries her with the others laughing is real hilarious!

  • oh god this scene is horrible!

  • This cartoons too ddepressing im sorry.

  • with all the ecological stuff stewing around media, why arent they showing these more natural-friendy stuff to kids instead of the shit today?!

  • The hedgehogs shoulda waited in the middle of the street, on the line till there was another gap

  • haha adder and owl totally heartless!

  • Death toll eleven.

    That OWL! How Inconsiderate!

  • Death toll eleven.

  • Adder's like, "Fuck you guys." -_-

  • I never appreciated this show back when I was younger but, watching it now I can honestly say it's better than any of the rubbish children have to watch these days.

  • Why did this episode have to be shown on my birthday??! It was hte saddest birthday I ever had. I miss the hedgehogs =(

  • 1.02 this show was so politically incorrect, I loved it XD

  • "Don't curl up..." All these years later and this episode is still so heartbreaking. =( I remember this and the fox hunting episode being the most intense.

  • After seeing this, the Hedgehogs became my favorite..it was sad seeing them die..and yes, Owl needs to shut up. Not because she was mean, because she had an advantage they didn't. She should have respected that.

This show reminds me of my favorite show ever (hint-the title is the first three letters of my name.), where at least one character is voted off after completing a great challenge in at least every episode, but in both shows, at least one of them is rewarded for it in the end.

  • They should NOT have cut the Adder scene out of the film!!!!

  • NOOOOO!!!! Not the Hedgeogs! *sniff* I miss MY little hedgehog, Spike...

  • 1:02 is very callous! True, but insensitive.

Exactly the kind of stuff kids need to hear nowadays in measure, instead of the constant TV acid trip they're meant to like.

  • 1:02, Ooo, that's so cold hearted!

  • Will miss the hedgehogs!

  • OhMyGosh ... poor hedgehogs :(

  • :'( That made me cry. The poor dears. Mrs. Hedgehog's devotion was particularly endearing.

  • I remember watching this the first time round, and bawled my eyes out! Wheever I talk to my friends or family members who remember the show, always say "Oh, the poor hedgehogs!..."

I always cry, Mrs Hedgehog refusing to leave him and save herself always gets me - Especially when it was normally Mr Hedgehog who was the braver of the two. :'o(

  • Oh that shocked me so much. The poor little things. Compare this to some of the bull being shown to kids these days - fluorescent blobs floating around in space - some of it looks like the guy who wrote it was seriously on acid. It's shows like farthing wood, captain planet etc. that made this generation great!

  • Agreed, I'm 18 too.

  • Glad to see people understand! It's a travesty they're not repeating wonderful shows like this more.

  • I can't remember the last time they showed any proper cartoons on the BBC (or Granada, which seems to be worse) just about all modern childrens television shows either seem to be obnoxiously annoying or pathetically patronising.

  • I agree. Fantasy is good for the kids. But reality and death needs to come into it to

  • no way dude not like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I actually dispise Owl :@.

  • i hadn't watched it in ages but now over the last few days watching, i totally agree

  • I don't get why Badger didn't carry them.

  • Or better yet, the foxes. I can see why Fox feels hard about it. But even Toad didn't know at the time the road was being built.

  • @liselle87

If any of the animals didn't die in this show there would be no drama.

  • That is sooo sad, even though I knew they were going to die, when they were crossing I was like "c'om on C'OM ON! you can make it!"

  • The poor hedgehogs. I remember seeing a baby hedgehog wondering around on a road, where I used to live, which was connected to a motorway. And all I could think about was this episode. So I carefully picked up the little thing and put him in a neighbours garden.

Also, wouldn't have Adder heard Whistler flying towards her?

  • rip

  • now the hedhogs are oh man whose next

  • I know, but I won´t tell you or I´ll spoil it for all the others. You´ll just have to wait and see...

  • Can't believe how many animals have died on this journey-so sad :(

  • 'ill second that' phahahaha

  • Adder was mean to Owl..

  • where can ya dl these from?

  • This was a sad episode, especially when the hedgehogs died. I remember crying when I was younger, it's definitely a memorable episode, along with the hunt one. But Adder flying in the air and toad's comments were really funny! AOFW was the best :)

  • I love Owl's laugh in this, its a very rare thing for her, lol.

  • @Rayness3 she does it in Series 2 episode 1, with Weasel, at whistler when being embarrased by a female heron

  • did farthing wood used to come on in Europe as well?

  • French/English production, you make a guess

  • i know it would of hurt but whistler could of just carried the hedgehogs over or badger the lazy twat could of put them on his back :/

  • They would need thumbs to hold his feathers :)

  • so sad ='(

especially because mrs hedghog wouldn't leave him

    *sniffle*

  • I have to admit adder is a bit of a bitch sumtimes!!

  • yeah but don´t men kinda like women with adder´s attitude? ;) Frisky lady, purrr... :D

  • OMG no blood?!

  • It would have been a step too far for a children's cartoon. Look at cartoons nowadays though. Most don't even mention death. It explains why children fear death when they're older. BBC should repeat this series every so often.

  • Most cartoons nowadays are so out of touch with reality that one must be overly drugged to even understand them. I'm impressed with this series.

  • most cartoons nowadays are made for comedic, to make kids laugh. Shows like spongebob are okay, but there needs to be AOFW as well. It was the only cartoon in history that taught kids about death.

There is some blood when fox is fighting scarface.

  • The Mysterious cites of Gold is the only other cartoon I seen that mentions death. That's good too.

  • man kind feared death well before childrens tv was created :P

  • Truly one of the most memorable & tense & saddest episodes! Adder, Weasel & Owl are my favs, all so funny!

  • Oui.

  • No, that was designed to test your feelings.

  • Aww, the hedgehog's deaths are one of the saddest. They're one of the three that tear me up (Hedgehogs, Pheasant, Sinuous). But, at least we get a good laugh after that!

"You looked like a wiggly old maggot!"

    "MAGGOT!?!?"

  • @BatSnakegirl

When the pheasant's wife dies, you can't help but feel sorry for him despite the fact he's been such a jerk towards her in the previous episodes. It gets even more sad when gets shot by the farmer as well and presumably meets the same fate as his wife.

  • So it's wrong to like Owl?

And I didn't said it was funny, but I think Owl's line was pretty cool =)

  • I didn't say that.

  • Good^^

  • It isn't funny though.

  • I didn't tried to be either.

  • No.

  • I know. How can peppersaurus find it funny!?

  • This epesode was my strongest memory from watching it as a kid. Its a real shame about the hedgehogs.

  • 'Those cowering Hedgehogs just curled up and died'

    Yay!Owl rocks!^^

  • Nasty person, liking blood. You're in love with Owl, all you ever say it I like Owl.

  • muajajajajaja *weasel* did you watch "watership down"?, its so bloody

  • They are very alike, it's true.

  • Why do they always have to pull at the heartstrings when they kill them.

  • This was so trumatic watching this as a kid..one of the best but saddest episodes of the show.

  • this and the fox hunt episode were the most traumatics ones.

  • At least nobody died in the fox hunt one (which itself along with this and 'The Journey Begins' is the best episode from my perspective). :)

But yeah, I remember the hedgehogs getting killed.
