I never appreciated this show back when I was younger but, watching it now I can honestly say it's better than any of the rubbish children have to watch these days.
"Don't curl up..." All these years later and this episode is still so heartbreaking. =( I remember this and the fox hunting episode being the most intense.
After seeing this, the Hedgehogs became my favorite..it was sad seeing them die..and yes, Owl needs to shut up. Not because she was mean, because she had an advantage they didn't. She should have respected that.
This show reminds me of my favorite show ever (hint-the title is the first three letters of my name.), where at least one character is voted off after completing a great challenge in at least every episode, but in both shows, at least one of them is rewarded for it in the end.
I remember watching this the first time round, and bawled my eyes out! Wheever I talk to my friends or family members who remember the show, always say "Oh, the poor hedgehogs!..."
I always cry, Mrs Hedgehog refusing to leave him and save herself always gets me - Especially when it was normally Mr Hedgehog who was the braver of the two. :'o(
Oh that shocked me so much. The poor little things. Compare this to some of the bull being shown to kids these days - fluorescent blobs floating around in space - some of it looks like the guy who wrote it was seriously on acid. It's shows like farthing wood, captain planet etc. that made this generation great!
I can't remember the last time they showed any proper cartoons on the BBC (or Granada, which seems to be worse) just about all modern childrens television shows either seem to be obnoxiously annoying or pathetically patronising.
The poor hedgehogs. I remember seeing a baby hedgehog wondering around on a road, where I used to live, which was connected to a motorway. And all I could think about was this episode. So I carefully picked up the little thing and put him in a neighbours garden.
Also, wouldn't have Adder heard Whistler flying towards her?
This was a sad episode, especially when the hedgehogs died. I remember crying when I was younger, it's definitely a memorable episode, along with the hunt one. But Adder flying in the air and toad's comments were really funny! AOFW was the best :)
It would have been a step too far for a children's cartoon. Look at cartoons nowadays though. Most don't even mention death. It explains why children fear death when they're older. BBC should repeat this series every so often.
most cartoons nowadays are made for comedic, to make kids laugh. Shows like spongebob are okay, but there needs to be AOFW as well. It was the only cartoon in history that taught kids about death.
There is some blood when fox is fighting scarface.
Aww, the hedgehog's deaths are one of the saddest. They're one of the three that tear me up (Hedgehogs, Pheasant, Sinuous). But, at least we get a good laugh after that!
When the pheasant's wife dies, you can't help but feel sorry for him despite the fact he's been such a jerk towards her in the previous episodes. It gets even more sad when gets shot by the farmer as well and presumably meets the same fate as his wife.
Why didn't they cross at night time when the road was empty? :(

1:02 is very callous! True, but insensitive.
Exactly the kind of stuff kids need to hear nowadays in measure, instead of the constant TV acid trip they're meant to like.

But yeah, I remember the hedgehogs getting killed.
